Poll question: Would you live in DC under a Trump Administration?

13094530, Isn't DC a heavy "democratic" city no matter what? Posted by BigReg, Tue Nov-15-16 09:40 AM
However, I feel that particularly in that town democrats and repubs all look the same; white dudes with brooks brothers buttondowns untucked at the bar, drinking heavily and bro'ing the fuck out. Seems most of em aren't even there to pull women, just to bask in their whiteness, lol

13094561, I wasn't in DC for 5 minutes and almost knocked a white dude out Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Nov-15-16 10:11 AM

13094685, my wife had a dance performance there 2 years ago Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Nov-15-16 11:57 AM
I went to drop them off at a rehearsal spot and parked in an alley so they could hop out quickly. Apparently this alley was an actual street or was a shortcut.
So I'm rushing to get their shit out because who wants to be the person blocking traffic? not 30 seconds in these white dude starts acting real white.
honks the horn then screams "oh sure guy, it's all about you, just block the street... no one else matters"
being a real asshole about it. Mind you, there are 3 cars ahead of him and everyone else is being patient and can see I'm trying to hurry up.
at first I ignored him but the more he rants the slower I take.
I start cursing this dude out something serious. His wife pops off...
so of course my wife flipped out and now we are in the middle of the alley like "WHAT! WHAT!!! who want it? Looking like a broke ass Lucious and Cookie cause we been in the car for 7 hours.
After 7 hours in the car riding up 95 we just lost it. The 2 dancers who an hour earlier swore they were about that life were beside the car looking scared as fuck.
they wouldn't get out the car tho... did the finger up against the window while driving past us but he wouldn't get out the car. LOL...
and thats when our friend from college told us white people were moving in and getting knocked out for moving in and popping shit at the wrong people.
white people in northern cities are annoying as shit.

13094730, All the big NE cities are starting to get like this Posted by flipnile, Tue Nov-15-16 01:09 PM
Been noticing more and more non-urban-looking white folks (to be fair, a lot of suburban people in-general) downtown and they stay trying little passive-aggressive things to assert themselves. Getting more and more bold, too. I've posted this several times, but I've resorted to shoulder checking people that want to try and bully me by walking in front of me and then acting like they don't see me. They sure enough see me tho, because that moment when they realize I ain't moving or turning sideways is the moment you see the panic start to set in.
|
13094927, i do this too Posted by Crash Bandacoot, Wed Nov-16-16 01:55 AM
it's so fun.
|
13094935, I've taken up asking people if I was in their way. Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 07:23 AM
Not sarcastically either, straight deadpan. A woman at the grocery store reached between me and my wife talking the other day over some vegetables. We were talking about which to get and she just reached her hand right between us, no excuse me, nothing.
So I turned to her and asked if we were in her way. She blushed and said "oh, no, excuse me and then shuffled away."
I hate living up here due to how white people act.
Another thing I do is ask people if they're ok. Again. Non sarcastically just deadpan. Was boarding a plane three weeks ago and this white couple in the gate just keeps bumping into me. They had plenty of room behind them but they chose to keep bumping into me. First time I looked down and behind me, second time I looked over my shoulder. Checking if someone was there. The kept giggling to themselves talking about "we're getting on his nerves" in regards to what they were saying. Third time I asked him if everything was ok. He said "oh yeah, I'm fine" I said well you keep bumping me into the guy in front of me and I'm just making sure you're ok; they backed up at that point.
|
13095065, I do the deadpan too. Usually when someone walks in front of me... Posted by flipnile, Wed Nov-16-16 12:05 PM
...and I don't really want to bump them hard, but they are clearly in the wrong. I'll just stop in-place and give them a "Are you really going to try and walk through me?" plain-face look. The worst ones just walk into me, then start apologizing profusely because they were in the wrong.
I never have those sort of problems in the hood. We somehow manage to negotiate around each other on narrow sidewalks without saying a word.
>Another thing I do is ask people if they're ok. Again. Non >sarcastically just deadpan.

13094727, RE: Would you live in DC under a Trump Administration? Posted by MEAT, Tue Nov-15-16 01:05 PM
"As students we don't get to vote but we're going to be suffering the greatest consequences of what's happened in this election," Nico, a high school senior at Wilson who helped organize the protests, told a WUSA9 reporter. "So this is our way to unite, to come together, to show our voice, and really play a part in a country that that we really desperately want to be proud of but that we're having a difficult time of doing right now."

13094731, i'm not on board with these protests. Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Nov-15-16 01:10 PM
at least the youth are stirred up though.
And this shit is gonna mess up my commute home...
"Get ready....for your blessing....."
|
13094955, is your commute the only reason? Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-16-16 09:31 AM
for me... it's energy wasted and they should protest the DNC for losing against this sham artist.
Also wonder if these protest are legit or is it a way to skip out on classes (if it's HS/college kids)
Put that energy into voter registration and getting candidates lined up for the mid terms.
Also wonder how many of these protestors voted
|
13094966, They're high schoolers. Probably very few voted. Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 09:43 AM
I had a volunteer from the Sanders campaign reach out to me yesterday to see if I was going to attend his speech. I told him thank you but no thank you, that I'm leery of my peers. I asked them if they're reaching out to these high schoolers and they didn't have an answer for that.
So their math is to reach out to people that previously donated, to grow their message I guess?
Meanwhile hundreds if not thousands of high schoolers all over the country are staging protests and walk outs. Juniors and seniors will be able to vote in the mid terms, freshman and sophomores in the next election.
Additionally, I'm grown, I'm set in my ways. My network shrinks every year. I'm not a high potential to spread any message. But the network of a teenager is vast, a kid going to college, particularly out of state ... massive. But nah, let's focus on the dude that gave $50 and signed up for an email distribution list once.
|
13095103, nah.. the question about voting was for the millenials in the streets Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-16-16 12:55 PM
I have no problem with the enthusiasm HS kids have BUT I'm leery if its always done with a walk out protest.
I'm skeptical these kids are really this upset vs using it to get out of class and scream for a little while because it's the cool thing to do this week.
|
13095112, I'm overlooking millennials. Haven't been giving them much thought. Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 01:01 PM
I figure they out and exposed/vulnerable like the rest of us. And if we're being real, anyone under 25 can get that good work visa easily and dip out.
But the kids. I'm willing to give them a chance. I've been doing volunteer work. I'm willing to help them more so that when they get out of school maybe they know more than my ass did. Because I sure wasn't thinking I could change much when I graduated. But they got so much power. Not in individuality. But outreach potential.
|
13095123, I saw this on the news today... Posted by Shogun, Wed Nov-16-16 01:07 PM
>Also wonder how many of these protestors voted
they were saying a LOT of the protestors ( at least in MY area) admittedly did NOT vote.
So I have to ask WTF are you protesting? Your lack of action led directly to this bastard being elected.
|
13095131, Where are you and COULD they vote Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 01:15 PM
I'm not willing to let people off the hook for not voting. But am very aware of
1. The media trying to shape the narrative that the protestors weren't engaged before and they're now throwing a tantrum.
2. Selective editing by said media
3. Legal and illegal loopholes that disenfranchised a number of people and didn't allow them to exercise their right. Id measures, long waits, broken machines, no mail in option ... that kind of stuff
4. Low voter engagement in areas where it "doesn't matter"
And
5. Cognitive dissonance from stupid people. That complain about things they could've changed after they had their chances.
|
13095135, majority of these protesters look like entitled white folk Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-16-16 01:18 PM
at least the ones i seen on TV
screaming Black Lives Matter and shit.
|
13095140, Come on homie. How many times you been in a dead ass club Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 01:24 PM
Only to look at LastNightsPics or whatever bootleg website is there and see a crowd full of good looking people having a good time.
Selective editing happens ALL THE TIME. Hell just to post s basic ass picture on line of you and your cat you're prompted to filter, adjust, frame, then write something about it.
|
13095142, I'm in Chicago. Posted by Shogun, Wed Nov-16-16 01:26 PM
This was some protest voting shit. Our election process goes relatively smooth here.
|
13095149, Y'all won though. What's your beef with protesters there? Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 01:37 PM
|
13095172, not really a 'beef' per se, Posted by Shogun, Wed Nov-16-16 02:24 PM
I just have issues with reactionary shit like this. Had the non-voters got up off of their collective asses, and or not "protest voted", then who knows what might've happened?
How can you protest something you declined to speak up about when you had the chance?
Same with non-voters who bitch and moan about government policy, and what elected officials do ( or don't) do.
|

> >2. Selective editing by said media

13094942, i must say Posted by Crash Bandacoot, Wed Nov-16-16 08:35 AM
D.C. is quite douchey, at this stage, and they are trying to bring that douchiness over the bridge. i grew up over there and it will pain me to see a takeover on that side, i already see it. nobody wanted to be over there, now they're trying to build a bridge. people better keep their homes with all their might cause they comin'.

13095048, DC isn't gonna change that much, if at all. Posted by LeonPause, Wed Nov-16-16 11:31 AM
at least not when it comes to the people here and the mood already in place.
I'm certainly not worried about it becoming overrun with Trump supporters who'll ruin the vibe of the city with their separaitist, nationalist bullsh/t.
it's still a predominantly liberal city, and still very brown and black.
as for safety...well, we've managed to make it through unscathed during some pretty tough and testy times (thinking post 9/11 until now). hopefully we are able to continue forward safe without any major catastrophe's happening in the city due to the new administration.

13095148, What am I missing here? Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Wed Nov-16-16 01:34 PM
Why would the people change when Trump moves in? Is most of the DC population Obama's people right now. And come January, they will be Trump people? Most of the DC people aren't connected to the administration.
|
13095153, A lot of the younger people here are in close proximity to the administration Posted by MEAT, Wed Nov-16-16 01:40 PM

13095195, DC is full of bureaucrats with no particular political alignment Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Wed Nov-16-16 03:03 PM
