Is there much to do there?

I will be locating there within a month. Where are the best areas to live in?
13072649, how much money you got?

13072677, I can pay $4-5K per month easy

I haven't seen much in that price range though. Everything that I have seen has been under $2K per month.
13072679, you can live like royalty in Memphis for that price range.

My in-laws are from there and some still live there now.
My jaw dropped when visiting one summer.....
Insanely affordable.

Wouldn't be my ideal city though....

first piece of advice is don't move to memphis

second is live in germantown. i haven't lived there in about 6 years so idk if there has been more suburb development recently. last time i checked germantown was where the people with your income lived

it's a hub city so many major tours will stop there. if you like live shows memphis is pretty cool

i believe if you search for "memphis" in GD you can get some more information about what to do when you get there. it seems like every few months someone makes a "what is there to do in memphis?" post

good luck living there. you're going to need it
13072775, Germantown developed like shit. Ikea opens in the Fall nm

This is a business move so I have no choice.

So I am assuming this is where you would pay $1500 or more per month correct?

it was a half facetious comment. i had a bad experience living in memphis. a lot of people love that place. like every city it has its good and bad qualities

where are you moving from? have you lived in the mid-south/bible belt before?

yes. assuming you don't have a family, i think you'll be hard pressed to find a place to live for ~$1500/month. you'll likely end up finding a very spacious spot in a nice neighborhood for just over $1k

I'd probably say Cordova is your best bet. It's considered Shelby County so if you have any children, etc....the schools are better. They also have homes that would fit into your price point easily.

As someone else has said...if you spending over $2000 for lodging in Memphis...you have strippers throwing rosebuds at your feet every morning.

As for what to do? Beale Street is there, there are lots of music shows that float thru town. There is a Boho contingent of which I am a card carrying member...so you'll find like minds from time to time.

Memphis is also a foodie spot...so you won't be at a loss for places to eat.

You'll have to find a group of friends and that will be what you do...because it's not like the night life is fantastic. However, I have friends I visit every time I float through so I'm always entertained.

Shit doesn't tell you everything, but if you're moving there without being familiar with the city then do your research.

I'd say downtown, east Memphis, and Collierville would be your best bets for that price range. We did a loft and a penthouse downtown on the river up until the new baby got here, but there are a bunch of cute developments and houses in that area in your range and a bit below. We're in East Memphis now in a really up and coming area which is now a gift and a curse. If you're looking for a nice area with large homes and great schools, Collierville would be the route to take. It pretty much runs alongside Germantown proper. I'd avoid Cordova as it's a weird little place that has a steady amount of crime. Arlington is also a nice area along with Eads.
