Because that's all that happened here. Nobody told anybody not to be a member of the party. He ran in the primary. He got farther than most people expected (yay, socialism!). But a large majority of the people who voted in the primary decided he was not the better candidate. What is the party supposed to do about that? As Obama said in 2012, elections have consequences.
