13044178, Racists and bigots get into democracies via the right wing
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Thu Jul-14-16 02:51 PM
Each side of politics has their racists, but am I right in thinking that the most overt, unashamed racism gets into democracies via the right rather than the left? To me the left fractures over principles more readily than the right, which will swallow racism and other inconsistent values if the money is good enough.

America
UK
France
Netherlands

etc

Countries where people supposedly get a vote but elections are tampered with don't count. Maybe that disqualifies America from my examples.
13044184, I view it like the civil war. Two sides fighting over how to be racist.

13044212, The liberal/progressive/left-wing version is the best version, at least

optimistic or pessimistic regarding human nature. I think the right thinks it's a zero sum game and everyone elses gain is there lost. That's why they want to close borders, don't like outsiders and cling to the past.

I think the left wings problem is that it is overly optimistic about human nature and think they create a utopian and underestimates man's capacity for corruption and self-interest. In terms of racism the problem with the left is that it doesn't acknowledge it's own racism.

The right wing always seems inherently hypocritical to me. When someone else wants to complain about how their environment is unfair the response is life is unfair and you've got to be personally responsible for making it better.

But let there be some tax or government oversight and suddenly fairness is really important and they can blame taxes, immigrants, or whoever for their problems.

If anything I felt like they are pessimistic about human nature but going with it was supposed to be a positive way to getting to the best outcomes. Or something.

I'd bet the small government guy would say lefties are pessimistic about human nature, and that's why they want all those regulations.
13044204, Democrats need to stop trying to pat themselves on the back over racism.

Its like the person who gave you Hep-B wanting a pat on the back because they didn't give you herpes.
No applause deserved.

I'm just wondering whether I can ask right wing folks in my facebook feed to come get their boys and stop letting the racists into the building.
13044206, In a post Civil Rights Movement World, I guess, sure.

But before the Southern Strategy, all of those Klansmen were registered Democrats.

The subsuming of Social Justice into "The Left" is not something that happened super long ago. It's kind of recent, relatively speaking.
13044327, I should have said post Civil Rights Movement World

I wouldn't be surprised if the racism is there anyway, just that it's expected that racists be covert with it for the sake of appearances.
