how does this work from tax standpoint? I assume its counted as income for the recipients.

for the shooting victims, who gets that money and what will it be used for? burial costs and lawyer fees?

hopefully, those families will have good advisors. I'd hate for them to be taken advantage of while already dealing with losing a family member.

we pretty much tax everything that's trackable. that's why so many folks don't report everything to the feds.
