And he was still very productive afterwards.

In R&B, D'Angelo and even Maxwell got passes on the strength of their music. They put out great material.

The best example of this is Sade. If you're putting out albums of that caliber, the public gives you more leeway. She could go another two or three years without an album and get a pass because she's given her audience classics and toured behind them.

The argument I've had about Frank Ocean is that he's a truly great songwriter who isn't totally invested in the other aspects of being a great artist. He doesn't tour heavy and he doesn't seem to want to put out new material at a constant pace. That's fine. But don't troll people who you know are supporters of your work.

The livestream is a troll move. I'm surprised he didn't paint something just so we'd have to literally watch paint dry while waiting for his album. His label only lets him do this because he was validated when he leaked his own material to acclaim.
