For starters it's already pretty clear to everyone that he and the girl were drugged up. Whether he just "can't remember" or was "blacked out due to drugs," there's a gap in his story when the chick was killed. Neither is preferable. A jury wouldn't look more favorably on a defendant in a largely circumstantial case because the kid confirmed he blacked out on coke and pills. If anything I'd think that would make him look like MORE of a scumbag to a jury.
