13023816, Who caught Kanye on Ellen? (video)
Posted by Firecracker, Thu May-19-16 12:57 PM
I'm sure this interview made a couple people pretty uncomfortable

Does not NOT act a lil like Tom Cruise did on Oprah's couch back when

13023823, he's a psycho

13024539, how so? i mean why throw that word around so easily?
Posted by Damali, Fri May-20-16 02:15 PM
please explain

d
13024712, that video was more than "passion"
Posted by atruhead, Sat May-21-16 05:13 AM
he needs to be committed
13023827, kanye answers questions for 10 minutes but doesn't answer the question
Posted by Cenario, Thu May-19-16 01:16 PM
13023835, lol yup
Posted by Firecracker, Thu May-19-16 01:22 PM

13023841, 2 things: 1, I'm mad he claims to have synesthesia lmao
Posted by dba_BAD, Thu May-19-16 01:29 PM
2, he has a very juvenile affect that is just straight up not likable. he could be as right as he want to, but it will never matter because ironically he can't deliver his thoughts in a way that is palatable or compelling. if he weren't such an egomaniac he could benefit from some speech and debate type coaching so he could get his logics, arguments and delivery together, it could make a big difference for him
13023851, I agree with this
Posted by Firecracker, Thu May-19-16 01:39 PM

And I like Kanye

Unlike i.e. Pharrell who's always very eloquent and well articulated, Ye just blabbers and is O.D. and doesn't really sound «smart» enough to have that effect.

What he is tho, is genuine. And thats a redeeming quality to a certain extent, but its not enough and he really comes off a little..... Short. At times. Even though he definitely isn't

13023853, kanye brain works faster than his mouth can articulate.
Posted by Cenario, Thu May-19-16 01:41 PM
13023987, this is me but I am aware of it so I come off cold.

LMFAO!

Good shit Bruh!

13024138, Nah, his mouth keeps going after his brain stops.
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Thu May-19-16 11:45 PM
You'll notice a couple of times here where he
kept speaking, but he hadn't actually
had another thought yet. This is why he rambles
and says so much cringe-worthy shit.
13023895, you going to get mad, but -- I think you want an e.g. not an i.e.

*ducks*
13023897, You're right
Posted by Firecracker, Thu May-19-16 02:23 PM

Contrary to Sway, you actually have the answers (c)

13024528, why? is it impossible for him to have it?
Posted by Damali, Fri May-20-16 02:08 PM
13024533, it's a hugely rare and specific condition
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri May-20-16 02:14 PM
to me it's pretty clear he's enamored with it conceptually and is using it as a descriptive device to proclaim how uniquely "visionary" his art is, but were he to actually experience synesthesia, I'm confident it would have long been a documented part of his story by now
13024594, It's not necessarily that rare. I did a lot of research back in
Posted by Jon, Fri May-20-16 03:48 PM
1999-2001 timeframe for a couple school projects (1 high school, the other college)

I was fascinated because I had/have it (much weaker now than when I as younger, which is normal)

Anyway, its widely suspected by people who study synaesthesia that it's way more common than reported.

Kanye could have it in some form, but then again it would be like Kanye to just claim some stuff like that without actually having it lol

13023852, I hate Kanye's white voice.
Posted by Hitokiri, Thu May-19-16 01:41 PM
Ugh.
13023855, i think he does that when he's trying to stay calm.
Posted by Cenario, Thu May-19-16 01:41 PM
13023867, Nah... that enuciation is because he's talking to a white audience.
Posted by Hitokiri, Thu May-19-16 01:56 PM
13023926, dude is str8 up hard to listen to...and that is 1 of several reasons why
Posted by mikediggz, Thu May-19-16 03:11 PM
13024475, I can't deal with it. It's awful.
Posted by Invisiblist, Fri May-20-16 12:51 PM
I know a dude who does that and it's insufferable.
13024530, i hate that you call it a white voice. there is no such thing.
Posted by Damali, Fri May-20-16 02:11 PM
when are we going to stop attributing proper speech to white people? as if they are the standard bearers for language?

ugh.

d
13025027, Nah you missing the point here
Posted by C. Thelonius, Sun May-22-16 07:29 PM
I agree with you on your general point, but here Kanye is manipulating his voice for the whitiest of white audiences (daytime television). Not the same thing. He is extra nasally. When Kanye speaks, you can hear his fuckin jaw in his voice almost like he from the South. Not this nasally shit. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this, cuz this was the first thing that irked me from this video.
13025216, Never. I've been a crusader against this type of thinking since 89'
Posted by Atillah Moor, Mon May-23-16 10:05 AM
when I was in middle school. The look on peoples faces when I stated being educated and speaking well aren't traits specific to white folks -- dead silence. That was a real turning point in my life,
13025432, not the same thing as what we are talking about
Posted by Invisiblist, Mon May-23-16 02:50 PM
13023861, Also... this nigga is nuts.

13023866, why doesnt he have shit to say about his kids?
Posted by RobOne4, Thu May-19-16 01:56 PM
he can talk forever about nothing when asked how is he doing. But when he is asked about his kids he has nothing to say.
13023875, He doesn't talk about family. A LOT of celebs roll like that. Why give folks
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu May-19-16 02:05 PM
another target for scrutiny?

"Get ready....for your blessing....."
13023909, then why allow the questions?
Posted by RobOne4, Thu May-19-16 02:36 PM
I mean damn his family is on a fucking reality show but you wont answer questions about them but you still allow interviewers to ask that question? That makes a whole lot of sense.
13023873, I don't see crazy. I see passion. I see honesty. I see insecurity. I see perhaps
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu May-19-16 02:04 PM
one of the most open cats in the public eye right now.

Could he be more effective by choosing a different tact? Yes..yes indeed.

"Get ready....for your blessing....."
13023915, i think Ye is fake crazy
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-19-16 02:42 PM
its calculated IMO.

and yeah, he code switches. ionno why people trip, most of us do it at the gig.

I'm ober this Ye is crazy shit tho... dude is far from crazy.
13024532, me too. this kinda stuff makes me wish i could work with him
Posted by Damali, Fri May-20-16 02:12 PM
i really want to see his ideas come to fruition

if i had 53 mil lying around, i'd call him up

d
13023922, I am a Kanye hater but that didn't really bother me.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Thu May-19-16 03:03 PM
Hated that white voice but I think he eventually dropped it (or I got use to it).

Dude seems to have a bit of a messiah complex.

But I dug that he made folks uncomfortable and spoke from the heart.

It just seems to me is that dude just isn't that well informed. Like dude seems to have no reframe of reference beyond pop culture.

I just wish I could give that a reading list.

13023927, hes kinda been this way from the beginning
Posted by illEskoBar221, Thu May-19-16 03:12 PM
I remember watching his earlier performances
like "the food" on chapelle or Selfish with slum village
or even his BETawards "jesus walks performance"
and his enthusiasm and emotion was always borderline
crazy...ppl are acting like his antics are new

hes never really been able to articulate his thoughts
like remember his interview on the Breakfast club a few yrs ago

ye gon be ye

13023984, why does this feel so fake?

13024541, exactly. it makes complete sense...fragmented, yes, but i get it
Posted by Damali, Fri May-20-16 02:17 PM
this isn't that much different from the heavily fragmented, pop culture laden way that ?uestlove speaks, but nobody calls him crazy

d
13024715, ?uest is at least 76.9% more articulate than Kanye tho

13024720, Have to disagree here...I find quest is more cryptic....
Posted by Seven, Sat May-21-16 07:46 AM
...and is just a nerd. The stuff he says that goes over my head is usually stuff I have no knowledge about. If there's an issue with him I'd say it's that he assumes folks are as smart or knowledgeable as he is lol. That's cool in my books.

To me Kanye has problems expressing himself. And as someone said in this post his inability to articulate himself takes away from his message. No matter how good of a point it is.

I just happened to be around a computer a lot this week and watched his interview clips several times till I was like...."oh. I think i get it now". In general i don't have time for that.

And I also think quest and Kanye embody two different mind sets. I could be wrong here but quest is that cat who works and works and practices and practices and finds joy in his work by eventually mastering it.
Kanye is that dude who thinks he's entitled to be whatever he wants to be simply because his intentions are good. Life doesn't work that way. He put in work and mastered his lane in music and now wants to "save the world". He's got a lot more dues to pay if he wants to put the ideas he has into place. People (the gate keepers and people he wants money from) arent going to trust him simply because he's a top tier Rapper/producer and is 'passionate'
13024490, Kanye keeps me entertained

Looking from the outside I see impulse control, narcissism and grandiose ideation. I get that people don't want to diminish him by saying he is mentally ill but that doesn't change that kanye cannot hold eye contact with the person talking too him, can only speak in tenuously connected tangents, is so overwhelmed by his inability to communicate his ideas clearly and concisely that it leads to emotional outburst regularly, nor do many of his "world saving ideas" have very much substance. That doesn't mean Kanye doesn't have a lot to give to the world. Plenty of mentally ill people have made amazing contributions that changed humanity.
Having mental illness doesn't make him less amazing at the things he is amazing at and ignoring or spinning his mental illness as everything but doesn't make us more compassionate or supportive fans.

Crazy, weird, unpredictable but he has a great point.

He makes us so uncomfortable and he is right. Michelle Obama did start a fashion incubator for students because she realizes the potential in fashion. Why shouldn't black people have a stake in creating style that influences culture?

I still like Kanye.

I remember years ago Jay Z was on MTV, TRL I think the show was. Anyway, the VJ said something in reference to Kanye jokingly and Jay laughed and said "Naw don't do that he's crazy" the VJ was like I think it would be cool. Jay took a serious tone and once again said "Naw really, don't do that. That guy is crazy. He will be out in front of the MTV offices picketing" This had to be around '03-'04.
