I've also heard good thinks about 'Born on a Tuesday' by Elba than John.
I enjoyed 'The Hairdresser of Harare' which was more light and entertaining than literary (how are we defining this anyway?), but still offered insight on the commonplace/everyday which is still so rare for me to see when it comes to anything to do with Africa.
Didn't think much of 'we need new names' and I thought 'Ghana must go' was much better than both that and 'Americanah' (reason I group them together is they all deal with the African in the west & coming of age, in one way or another).
Speaking of which, I would love to get some recommendations for Black writing coming out of Europe. Do we have atone other than Zadie?
