“Better recommendations would include Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman (this was hugely influential to me), which is really just a novel and doesn't even pretend to be technical. Also, Kip Thorne's first general audience book, Black Holes and Time Warps, does much of what A Brief History of Time aspires to do, but much better
