13007176, its gotten too big
Posted by fontgangsta, Tue Apr-19-16 01:28 PM
i hate to be one of "those people" but its true
once something gets too popular in NY it's just impossible to enjoy
there's just too many damn people here

lineup looks dope tho
13007195, i agree.

last year the main stage was crazy.
they need to add video screens for it.

i did have a great time at all of the smaller stages though.
i literally spent all my time there.
13007225, It's the level of headliners imho
Posted by BigReg, Tue Apr-19-16 01:59 PM
While the last couple of years were great, a previously MIA D'Angelo could headline a Coachella...not be crammed into a park.

Similar to Grace Jones.

I don't think you're going to have the same mob for Ice Cube, and that's a good thing

13007232, I don't think Grace was the problem last year
Posted by fontgangsta, Tue Apr-19-16 02:07 PM
it was Lauryn who brought the hordes
can't believe she can still dupe that many people into coming out to see her "perform"
13007283, Ice cube in 05 is one of my favorite shows ever.
Posted by MEAT, Tue Apr-19-16 02:52 PM
13007290, The more I'm thinking about this, the more I might go just for him.
Posted by Teknontheou, Tue Apr-19-16 02:56 PM
Or, because of him.
13007193, While I loved D'Angelo and Grace Jones
Posted by BigReg, Tue Apr-19-16 01:39 PM
I thought it was a bit out of the Afropunk sphere with such megastar established acts. While last couple of years had heavier hitter headliners, I like this lineup overall.

13007194, This is super corny but I'd love them to have a kids fashion show
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Apr-19-16 01:39 PM
Mainly because I want to dress my boys up in some far out gear.

13007228, Why not propose this to James Spooner or folks that run the event?
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Apr-19-16 02:00 PM
I'm sure they wouldn't mind having a children orientated day since that'll attract more dollars and potential sponsorships on their end.
13007257, james has not been part of this in almost ten years

13007289, I don't know none of the people involved. Seems like an

obvious idea that they should have considered at some point.

Let me go ahead and investigate throwing that event.

Kelea & the young fathers would be the only reason i'd go.

there's always next year!
13007219, Is it really more of a white crowd than a black crowd?
Posted by MEAT, Tue Apr-19-16 01:56 PM
We're going but we have some friends that are on that "fuck that, safe space" and not attending. I get that. But everything cool becomes co-opted.
13007227, Nope. It's still very black
Posted by BigReg, Tue Apr-19-16 02:00 PM
13007291, I was surprised by the absence of YT when I last went two years
Posted by Teknontheou, Tue Apr-19-16 02:58 PM
ago. I know I didn't see more than 100 white people there, out of however many thousand black people that were there. I was expecting way more.
13007272, Thundercat almost has me in, BUT
Posted by Mr. ManC, Tue Apr-19-16 02:35 PM
if Anderson.Paak was on this line up?

game set and match.

13007920, JUST found out about Anderson.Paak last week and i was floored
Posted by Damali, Wed Apr-20-16 11:44 AM
i was looking for him (them?) on the lineup too
13007420, ceelo is allowed back in public again, huh
Posted by Riot, Tue Apr-19-16 05:08 PM
hmm
tempted to go see george clinton just to pay my respects
not that i expect a particularly good show tho

he is on periscope all the time
13007519, looks like an amazing youthful lineup
Posted by Crash Bandacoot, Tue Apr-19-16 08:54 PM
anytime flying lotus and thundercat are at the same venue....it's worth it. throw in
janelle monae and the internet too? sheeeit. curious to know what shabazz
palaces and young fathers sounds like live....i dug their latest release.
13012635, Shabazz Palaces is pretty good live....
Posted by rorschach, Wed Apr-27-16 04:10 PM
granted....I saw them in closed-in venues twice. Their songs sound appropriately bigger live. There wasn't much interaction with the crowd but they have pretty tight sets that don't just stay on material from one project. The last time I saw them, they still had a couple mixtape songs thrown in with their stuff from the albums.

13012464, I put together a Spotify playlist. Pretty excited for Sate
Posted by MEAT, Wed Apr-27-16 01:39 PM
Radkey
and Downtownboys

Is Sir The Baptist supposed to be faux religious or is he gospel?
13054293, Where's the after party?
Posted by MEAT, Sun Aug-07-16 09:38 PM
