12993634, ATL: we're finally (most likely) getting transit expansion

ATL proper at least (sorry, Lilburn). still has to be signed by the governor and still has to be approved by Atlanta voters in November

The bill would let the city of Atlanta ask voters this fall to raise the MARTA sales tax by up to a half-penny to pay for expanded MARTA service. Transit projects funded through the referendum would have to be built inside the city limits.

It also would set the stage for a referendum in portions of Fulton County outside of the city limits. Voters in those communities would be asked to approve a sales tax of up to three-quarters of a penny. The revenue from the Fulton tax would go toward transportation improvements, including roads and bridges, in portions of Fulton outside of Atlanta, drawn from a project list put together by Fulton’s mayors and the county commission.

Finally, the bill calls for a third referendum inside the Atlanta city limits to authorize another half-penny tax to finance transportation improvements inside the city. Atlanta’s project list, potentially a combination of road and transit projects, would be subject to approval by the Fulton County Commission.
