i can't get w/it.

i watch the video and can't imagine that the actual song would inspire THAT level of wining in THOSE ppl. b/c they've been exposed to too much real Dancehall to be so moved by such a limp affair.

Sean Paul had a song that was sorta popular too with that same track.
It still goes hard. I'm shocked more pop artist don't do that actually.

12990348, I think his look and his personality before
Posted by Heinz, Sat Mar-19-16 04:22 PM
but this song couldve changed things for him if he kept it....hopefully its a sign of more to come

I wouldve pulled back from having it sound so dancehall-ish, but he pulled it off better than Rihanna. A lot of reasons why its okay for Rihanna to say things white people don't understand is well its because her name is Rihanna LOL She sounds like she mumbling sometimes
12990363, when you say his look and personality
Posted by astralblak, Sat Mar-19-16 05:50 PM
you think it's too run of the mil and bland, like in he doesn't have enough personality?

shit now that I think of it, i don't know if I've even watched a video by him... going to do my googles

12990478, Yeah a lot of them don't really put them selves out there like that
Posted by Heinz, Sun Mar-20-16 03:12 PM
I think its lack in confidence so they play it by being mysterious. Weeknd did the same, people think it was because they were just trying to be dark and mysterious, i think that was a small part of it but he just wasnt confident in his look. He's said that a lot after.

PARTY's personality on record versus personality on camera isnt the same. He doesn't come off as confident. Look at Bryson, doing the same sound. He's a lot more marketable even tho he has a quiet confidence about him. He also had a look that was easier to sell, its a huge reason why he did so well this year.
12990480, RE: Yeah a lot of them don't really put them selves out there like that
Posted by double 0, Sun Mar-20-16 03:35 PM
Bryson is a better songwriter.. He has better songs

Most of the reason why he is popping
12990523, Not really
Posted by Heinz, Sun Mar-20-16 07:53 PM
A lot of why PARTY's writing is so different than his traditional R&B or the more straight forward type of style is because he's been trying to avoid how he used to sound. I dont know why, if he combines both of what he's doing now and his older stuff you wouldn't be Bryson is better writer.

I think as PARTY vs Bryson right now yeah he has the better songs as far as mainstream appeal. Hands down. But lets not pretend Jahron B meets PARTY wouldnt crush Bryson's writing. I just think he needs to stop fighting it and stop doing the lazy style he's been getting away with thats so popular
12990524, RE: Not really
Posted by double 0, Sun Mar-20-16 07:59 PM
I mean its hard to argue... PND has released multiple projects and built a cool little cult following but where would he be w/o OVO..

Meanwhile Bryson comes out.. gets co-sign but is unaffiliated and is skyrocketing to success based on.... songs..

videos aint dope.. and ppl barely see him

Bryson is certainly more r&b that Party but I still think Party is around to give drake ideas that he can ultimately make way better songs from..

"Work" is a perfect example... that is a mumbly poorly written song that is carried by Rihanna... Party could not take that song to #1 by himself.
12990483, Weeknd also said he felt his english-speaking was bad...
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sun Mar-20-16 03:56 PM
so he avoided interviews... ended up getting the 'mystery' tag and
just thought it worked.

12990520, lol he spoke fine
Posted by Heinz, Sun Mar-20-16 07:48 PM
Ive neard heard about him having an accent hmm thats new
12990563, Yeah it was more about articulation... from the Rolling Stone interview...
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Mar-21-16 12:20 AM
The then-anonymous Tesfaye declined all interviews. In part, it was because he worried he wasn't well-spoken enough: A high school dropout, he used to do crossword puzzles to improve his vocabulary, and to this day, he often wishes he were more articulate. "Me not finishing school — in my head, I still have this insecurity when I'm talking to someone educated," he says. "I don't want them looking at me like this fucking retard — no disrespect." For months, no one even knew if the Weeknd was a person or a group. That's when Tesfaye realized he "could run with the whole enigmatic thing," he says now. "If it backfired, I probably would have been doing interviews. But people were kind of liking me being a fucking weirdo."

12990394, Imma riddim chick, so I can't be mad at the beat.
Posted by PinkTaurus, Sat Mar-19-16 09:12 PM
A lot of riddims are either recycled music or not the most creative. With reggae riddims the artist may flip it or creatively ride the beat differently than the original song. that wasnt really done with WORK though.
I been WAITING for her to GET.HER.LIFE with some reggae/soca since we know that she listens to it in real life.

Who ever wrote the lyrics/melody does need to be sumo slapped tho. Song seems like it was improvised in two minutes. Undeveloped.

I'll shake my nonexistent ass to it tho.
Ass shakes come cheap. No high level music needed to touch toes.
12990552, This is what it boils down to, really...

12990484, Only thing I dislike about it is Drake's appearance. Drags the energy
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sun Mar-20-16 03:59 PM
WAY down from where Rihanna has the song.

She's a pop artist, so despite her background, I don't expect her
make the purest Dancehall song. The influence is there, and I appreciate
that about it.
Just judge it for what it is.
12990527, Yeah. It felt like the standard 2000s, R&B/Pop song feat. rapper
Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Sun Mar-20-16 08:18 PM
I know he's 'singing' and trying to fit the style of the song, but it just throws off the vibe for some reason.

Other than that, I really like the song
12999133, that shxt is flat, horrible
Posted by infin8, Tue Apr-05-16 01:24 PM
and the song 'works' (yeah, I know) w/o him. It was already mainstream...

"How do we make it MORE mainstream?"

'I know!! Get Drake on the phone!'
