Like you can hear him trying out a rhyming scheme and lyrics involving Matt Barnes but he never got around to actually writing the lyrics.

That's different from MJJ wishing that maybe he could have tweaked the drums in Beat It. Also we don't have any idea whether if MJJ got the chance to make changes to Thriller post release, that those changes would actually improv any of the songs.

When a work of art is done, it's done.

They tried to "improve" or "update" thriller with the Thriller 25 which had remixes with Kanye, Will.i.am and other folks and attempted to update the sound and we can all agree it was hot garbage.
