I'm eye fucking these pretty hard at the moment...

http://www.tedbaker.com/us/Mens/Shoes/BRAYTH2-Textured-leather-derby-shoes-Dark-Blue/p/126462-12-DARK-BLUE

if I suddenly had some extra dough on hand I would jump for these:
http://www.feitdirect.com/men/hand-sewn-low-black#

for a second I was sweating these hard, but then I realized the flatbottom derby is kind of everywhere and this not too unique

http://www.thecorner.com/us/men/laced-shoes_cod44651740vb.html

but, I am looking for some new non-work related kicks

whats gucci?
12968823, i bought these ferragamo flats on ebay for less than $30

the photos were terrible and i thought they'd be scuffed up. but for that price i was like fuckit. they're in excellent shape and the patent leather makes them perfect for winter weather slush.
12968826, 1. Dope 2. whats the quality like w/ Ferragamo?
Posted by double negative, Fri Feb-05-16 11:21 AM
They are rarely on the map for me due to the price and most of the stuff is understated

I imagine the fit and finish must be next level
12969192, quality is excellent on the vintage.

i've seen more recent models that were less sturdy, with thinner leather and had popped stitches.

I think they have an exclusive deal with Pro-Direct Soccer: http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/us/lists/soccer-shoes.aspx?listName=soccer-shoes&cur=USD&pp=32&brand=Pantofola+d%27Oro

The Squadra turfs were on clearance (I think you can oly get them in black right now), but the Lazzarinis are even tougher: http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/us/products/Pantofola-DOro-Soccer-Shoes-Pantofola-D\'Oro-Lazzarini-Ambra-Soccer-Cleats-Bianco-Tan-60464.aspx?

I had worn the Purcells twice. Once to a 50th birthday party. And the second time was on a quick weekend trip to Destin, FL. My feet were screaming at me while wearing them in FL. I threw the damned shoes in the trash while we were there. I couldn't take.

My daughter hipped me to these new ones. I dig them enough to give them a shot. Plus, she says they are much more comfortable than the originals.

Edit: I mentioned Purcells only cuz they are Converse products and are similar to Chucks.

To me a sneaker is a sneaker and it will never look formal. I'd rather it be informal and more comfortable. For other occasions there are dress shoes, boots, etc.
12969249, The vans I posted about below are very similar to these.

Maybe it's because I'm so used to the AF1, that changing the upper like that just makes it look off to me.
12969101, its the damn thick geriatric sole.
Posted by double negative, Fri Feb-05-16 07:53 PM
12969103, yeah, that thick sole matched with the flyknit upper just looks off
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-05-16 08:02 PM
seems like it would feel weird too.
12969203, without the stiff upper, it's actually light and flexible on the foot
Posted by Rjcc, Sat Feb-06-16 01:35 PM
it feels like the lunar sole.

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
12969118, Conceptually, I fucking hate them, but they are OK I guess
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Feb-05-16 09:05 PM
Seems antithetic to use FlyKnit on AF1 but they have whored out the model so hard I knew it was coming.

The only AF1s I wear anymore are Sheed-related or that series of six premium ones they did for old-school players (Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Jamaal Wilkes and Mychal Thompson in particular).

12969202, I bought the multicolors. I think they're dope BUT
Posted by Rjcc, Sat Feb-06-16 01:34 PM
they're extremely hard to put on. the shoelace they come with is just a little too short to let the shoe open up all the way.

12969128, I want those Adidas Support 93/16s, but $200 seems high
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Feb-05-16 09:35 PM
I'll wait and see if one of the white/green/gray pairs drops lower. The white ones don't do it for me. I am glad they are finally doing classic silhouettes with Boost soles. Eager to see what they do with older hoops shoes, like the Superstar, Pro Model, Top 10, etc. Will they be the generic running sole or something that is actually hoops oriented, encapsulated Boost like on the Rose series? When they did like the Superstar/Pro Model 2K, Forum 2000, etc, they were actual bball shoes but today? I dunno.
12969134, Boost sole is so comfortable
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Fri Feb-05-16 10:13 PM
I too would love to see it integrated into some of he classic silhouettes. I'm not a fan of the look of the D-Rose, but thy are some comfy ass shoes.
12969185, They just did the Support 93, you know the Cushion/Racer are comin'.
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Feb-06-16 09:56 AM
And more to follow, including the basketball stuff, the Gazelle and maybe even Stan Smith, Laver, Nastase, etc. I would LOVE some Boost Nastases.

I haven't gotten any Rose 6s yet but the 5s were OK to great depending on the upper material. I loved the leather ones, wasn't crazy about most of the synthetic models.

The Boost foam is hit and miss to me, the best ones so far were the AdiStar Boost that also had the Formotion in the heel. As a stand-alone thing, it's just mushy to me. Sometimes when it's integrated/encapsulated, you can't really feel it (e.g. CrazyLight Boost). But some models have struck a nice balance for sure.
12969132, GOTDAMN your taste is fucking impeccable. I want all of that

12969125, Lots, of course!
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Feb-05-16 09:32 PM
I got a sweet little bundle of vintage stuff by none of it. Included were two favorites, the Real Deal 2 and FlyByU Uptempo. Both were too small though so I sold them at a tidy profit (about 2.5X what I paid). There were some old AIs in there as well, but I already had them.

Speaking of Reebok, I bought a vintage pair of Shaq Dunk Mobs from a guy in Spain, too bad he didn't have the Preacher model also. He had some cool shit but a lot of it was not wearable.

If you're looking for a good Nike runner, the Odyssey is a beautiful shoe. Sort of a mashup of the Vomero series and the Equalon series as a more supportive, more expensive and better extension of the Structure series. Lots of cushioning and serious support, unlike most stuff from Nike, who laughably claims the Lunar Glide is a support shoe.

I got another little bundle with some Air Max Elite, Total Max II and, best of all, a weird WNBA player sample of the Air Total Max Uptempo. I just need the white/black/red womens pair to have all the OGs and all wearable. This was just a bonus. it's a white/black 3/4 cut make up in a womens sz 13.5. Helluva find for me as I fucking LOVE that shoe, even if the retro was somewhat disappointing. These are 19 years old and still wearable. Similarly I am also cornering the market on the GOAT, the Total Air Aggress Force. Have a couple pairs in most colors, still more TBs, highs, PEs and another white/black/royal pair.

I got the decent Js that recently dropped, 72-10s, Maroon 6s white/red IVs, white/cements on the way, etc. I will get those black 12s also, pretty hard despite some otherwise underwhelming releases. I might get those ugly sweater 7s, I dunno, they'd have to be kinda cheap. I got some 2004 Playoff XIIs, been looking for a DS pair for a while now.

Also have all the big Jumpman XX9s now plus the BHM and photo reel models. I liked the XX9, very disappointed with the forthcoming XXX though I will cop for cheap to ball in, I guess.

Got a good number of Curry 1 and 2s. I have to say that these are the worst Under Armour bball shoes I have ever worn, the 1 in particular. It's such a tease, could have been an excellent shoe and instead it's mediocre. Flip the foams, reinforce the collar and make the forefoot a little more flexible and it's the GOAT. As it is, very forgettable.

Mizuno is back on point after some shaky offerings, love the Nirvana 5, for example.

I am thinking of ordering some LeBron 13s and Kobe 11s, both ID colors, have yet to pull the trigger though.

I got some more New Balance Worthys, the UNC and Purple Reign ones. Always loved that shoe. Also picked up some Diadoras, the Italian and Croatian N9000s, along with some Horween Stan Smith (both versions) from the Packer sale in December. I got some other shit from them too but it slips my mind, those Just Blaze Sauconys but only because the price was right.

Let's see, what else, Chris Paul 13s in both colors, Muhammad Ali Under Armour shoes (weird as fuck to see him away from the three stripes), various and sundry Boost runners on the cheap and probably other shit that I am outright forgetting. I have a sickness.

12969226, Think I finally might wear my White Cement 88s next week.

Always preferred Adidas to Nike, one reason is because fewer people rock em and everyone is all about Nike.

I'd go with the gray.

i use the yeezy as a litmus test, if you fuck with them, and at that price (either paying it or passing on it in a sale by keeping them), then i can't fuck with your taste in sneakers. at most they are a neat novelty on a level with the nike presto or something like that.

Posted by handle, Tue Feb-09-16 05:19 PM
And I've bought 3 pairs of the New Balance Men's MT910V2 Trail Running Shoe.

It's mis-sized - a 13 4E is much smaller than the same size in MT910V1.

I ended up getting a 14 4E (a bit too wide but works if you tie them HARD) and 14 2E (still a little wide but works) and a 14 (perfect.)

The Bright Cherry with Burgundy (Orange/Black at Amazon) is the color I got - I need bright colors when hiking.

Link: http://www.newbalance.com/pd/new-balance-910v2/MT910-V2.html#color=Bright Cherry_with_Burgundy

The Pigment with Orange (Black/Orange at Amazon) looks sharper for casual footwear: http://www.newbalance.com/pd/new-balance-910v2/MT910-V2.html#color=Pigment_with_Orange

But the shoe is a great trail hiking shoe.

12980553, yeah both of those are hard as fuck, had to get em.
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Mar-01-16 11:22 AM
i ordered a couple pairs of Kobe IDs also, a Sunset pair with some custom touches to make it an obscure, defunct team from a defunct league's colors (philadelphia blazers of the old WHA) and then a temple U-ish pair with intense red, black and gold, made it a redman theme (bricks and a dollar sign on the tongue, flame on the back and "reggie noble"on the inside). i also got those paul george all-star shoes, rock that shit with canada jerseys.

overall though i have been strictly vintage apart from those five pairs, not a lot of stuff exciting me so far this year.
12980563, I saw that sunset color on NikeID playing around the other day

Shit is dope, how does it look in person?
12996782, Different than on the site, I havent decided if better or worse
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Mar-31-16 11:52 AM
Like I wanted to choose a shade of orange for the lining and for the graphics on back and I tried to approximate it most closely to the upper. It kind of worked but not as precisely as it looked on the site.

Overall they are a lot darker, the back part is less orange than a sort of autumn-toned red. I was going for a yellow to deep orange fade because I wanted to match it to the old Philadelphia Blazers uniforms. It doesn't exactly match but it's close and the upshot is that it has *way* more of an actual sunset effect than the site depicts or than was featured on the OC Kobe 6s. So the shoe is pretty unique. You can check them out here:

New models come out that I want. I have finally dragged my ass back into the gym in addition to playing ball somewhat regularly, so I buy stuff to actually use (you'd think the other 1499 pairs would cover it, but no). The thing I don't like is that materials feel kinda cheap, though PrimeKnit is solving that. They are doing a million of these new ones (name escapes me, there is a mid and a low) that are pretty clean.

I did get those Support 93/16 Boosts, the white/green ones. I love those because it's a proven design with an updated sole, super clean.

Got some OG Air Max 95s, the gray/blue ones, still in great shape. Also bought some black/comet red ones from 2000s. Love the OGs. Hate the newer ones. Got both Doernbacher colors back as well.

Jordan 9s Charcoal and Del Sol. The Charcoal ones I actually sold some dude for 350, sold em back to me for 180. Hard times, yours mine, hard times (c) Bone Thugs.

Got some more Kobe 9 Elites, Gumbo ones (second pair), BHM and black/volt (prolly sell those as they were cheap and are kinda ugly). Also got two Kobe 11 IDs, a Redman pair and a Philadelphia Blazers pair.

Got the PG all-star shoes (Canada shits), All-Star KDs, woven KDs, Seahawks Field General, khaki Calvin Johnson 3s, Air Max 2016 black/silver and maybe some other shit I am forgetting.

I picked up three pairs of Under Armour Fortis. Great shoe, highly recommend it. I wish the upper had a little more structure but the tooling is awesome, even the outsole is pretty good (most UA runners have crappy outsoles IMO). I also fuck with the AdiStar Boost, got another pair. I got that whole pack of NYC Asics, too, the price was right.

Got some Jordan 6s, replaced the Olympic pairs I sold cheap and did the same with a Motorsport pair.

I got a couple player samples made for AI, Question III from his Nuggets days and an Answer XIII from his Pistons stint.

Got some OG shit, too, Flight 96, Air Max Strong in two colors, Air Solo Flight, Air Max Force Authority (been looking for a pair for some time), more Aggress Force (I can never have enough), 98 Terra Sertigs and the last ever paid (1996) of Air Maestros. Everything DS, also got

I picked up the Jordan 12 Masters and Wings, also got the Dunk from Above 4s. Not sure what will stay but a decent group for recent releases. Also got the iron purple Jordan 2s, replaced a pair I sold for more than it was worth.

I have a bunch of Curry 2s now, about half the colors that have dropped.

I picked up those Kyrie Irving HD 2014s, price was right. I also got some OG Dr Doom Foamposites, they were in pretty much perfect shape and I don't trust the forthcoming retro. For the same price, give me the OGs.

Only complaint is the fit in the toe box....a little too much space. I might have to start double socking it. Not a major problem, but the shoe would be pretty much perfect for me if it fit a little tighter to the foot in that area.

But the cushion, traction, and support? Top notch. These things are beasts.

Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed May-11-16 11:49 AM
This is what I hate about Nike more than anything, even though I benefited from it in this case. They re-issued a horrible version of these and flooded the market with it. The pair I bought, which is OG and very near deadstock, would have cost me $800 easily in the recent past, before the announcement of the retro and possibly even just before its release. Now these sorry ass excuses for the same shoe are out there and these only cost me $250. They screw the collector and the consumer at the same time by releasing an inferior product that devalues the superior one.

I have slowed down a little, mainly because not much out there has appealed to me of late. That still means I am buying 4-5 pairs a week though LOL. I got some of those Notre Dame Clutchfit Drives and also the Championship Banner lows. Starting to dig the shoe anew. The CFD 2 is not as good, I am trying to warm up to the Highlight versions but so far they are just OK and the regular one is a dud. Charged Foam kind of sucks, Micro G is way better. I got some more Ali Phenoms and the black/grey/blue pair also. Good shoe, it could use a little more support though. Reinforce the SpeedForm like they did on the Curry 2, though I can't really grow to love those (again Charged foam, though I do like that on the Fortis runner).

If you like running shoes I think the Asics Gel Quantum and Saucony Iso Triumph 2 are great ones I have tried lately. Quantum is really, really cushy but not mushy. Triumph has great fit, long-lasting comfort. I got some new Mizuno models also but have not worn them yet.

I bought a pair of Air Zoom Ultrafly, a tennis sneaker. Very interesting shoe. It has a Pebax plate like you would find on a football or soccer cleat. I would say the shoe is a combination of the Superfly Mercurial soccer cleat and a traditional Zoom Air tennis shoe. It's maybe not quite as fluid heel to toe as the Lunar Ballistec, still the gold standard for Nike tennis IMO, but it's much faster and the materials are pretty intriguing. I think for a lighter player, this is the best shoe by far, definitely better than the Federer stuff.

I cannot go back to LeBrons. I had a Nike gift card and they were $98 at the outlet, bought three pairs. They are all on eBay, rather turn that gift card into cash now and maybe make a couple bucks. The shoe is bulky though not as heavy on the foot as the last few models. It pinches near the forefoot and there is no effective way to adjust the fit. The bottom-loaded Zoom Air is just bad technology for a basketball shoe as these and the other models (LeBron 12, CP3 IX, etc) prove. The Foam material in the upper is almost 100% superfluous. I thought maybe the Elites would be better but I am not enticed to try them unless they drop to $100 also. The sole sucks in terms of both cushioning and traction. I don't know WTF Nike is thinking.

I got several ID pairs of Kobe 11s. Not sure what I think yet. For basketball I feel like the ankle support is weak and flexibility is very poor. Why did they pare this release down so much? Where is the engineered mesh version? The high top Elite version? In those iterations, the shoe has potential. I like it better than the Kobe 9 Elite low, which is a very similar shoe, but that doesn't say much. I hated those, though I liked the EM version and Elite high version of the 9. The idea of a Flyknit basketball shoe is all for show and I think it complicates the design/engineering. Adidas's use of PrimeKnit is much more effective, though still not ideal for bball.

I still love the Air Jordan XX8. XXX seems to have fixed some issues on the XX9 but I still haven't gotten a pair. Too plain. Will get something cheap down the line, or wait for a color that grabs my attention.

13019879, i heard there's heel/achilles area pain issues before they're broken in
Posted by DJR, Wed May-11-16 03:20 PM
You have any issues like that?

I've got my eye on them for down the road, when I need a new pair and when they'll be able to be found for lower prices.

I've got a few pairs of hoop shoes right now, but the Rose 6 is by far my favorite. Maybe my favorite ever to play in. It's just such a comfortable shoe. Great traction too. They might not last real long though, not sure how durable the primeknit will be.
13020730, I haven't had that, but in the spirit of full disclosure
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Thu May-12-16 06:06 PM
I hoop like twice a month at the most so maybe someone who puts more time in them would experience that?
13188187, I dumped mine for that reason
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 01:29 PM
IMO they offered some improvement over the XX9--more secure fit with less slippage mainly--but the heel counter was a nonstarter for me (same problem with the Crazy Explosive 2017 only worse, similar issue with the LeBron 13 Elite but went away eventually). Another issue is that I think all the models has translucent outsoles. WHY? Wears like shit in terms of aesthetics and performances. I liked the XX9 a lot more. The Melo M11 and the XX8 were AWESOME Jordan releases, it's unfortunate we have seen the Melo line go to shit with the last two models and that Nike didn't give us more of that xx8 tooling. Awesome traction, carbon fiber in the midfoot, huge Zoom units in both the heel and forefoot. It was a tease to give us that and then dial it back. XXX1 seemed great in theory but only the battle grey ones fit me properly for some reason (also feel the best in terms of the Zoom) and overall the stability sucks, traction is mediocre. OK for me as a bigger player but I think they would be frustrating to play in for guards and wings, ironically.

I really like them. Basically the whole outer is one piece, and there's a strechy sock thing inside. Really nice materials.
13019937, dope color
Posted by infin8, Wed May-11-16 04:09 PM
but I feel like the deconstructed joints are cheating; I want ALL THE PANELS, not that CAD design boolshxt. Nike's been doing the same thing. I guess the unibody construction reduces the stress points but I rock NBas more for style than running. LOL
13020696, Eh, I don't always like them but I think these work well
Posted by sectachrome86, Thu May-12-16 04:42 PM
I dont usually like the Nike ones. Maybe it's because I couldn't pick a 580 out from any other NB sneaker so it doesn't really seem like a "different" version of something else.

Also I would guess these are lighter and more comfortable than the regular ones.

Bought the below recently

For running/gym

The knit looks better on these new versions that are coming too IMO. Hopefully Kanye doesn't wear them, so you'll be able to actually buy them.

So far the readily available colorways are what have kept me from buying a pair of ultra boosts....too much money to pay unless I like everything about the shoe. The black ones are cool, but always seem to be sold out.

ordered a pair, they came wit the tongues not sewn in

i hit them up, and they quickly offered a replacement pair, but were out of what i ordered

i accepted a different pair, which came fine, but were super ugly in person

meanwhile i had the tongues sewn in on the other pair for $5, so ended up with 2 pairs for the price of 1 + $5, which is cool, but the original pair was kinda ugly in person too tbh, and the construction was still kinda "off" they always wore funny

ended up ultimately donating them both

Both light and comfortable. Haven't bought anything in a few months though. Prestos always been kind of a love it or hate it shoe.....I like the updated model with the higher collar a lot, but it probably makes it even more polarizing. Very comfortable to wear.

I'll probably buy at least one new basketball shoe eventually. Of the ones already out, I'm looking at the D Rose 7 or the Crazy Explosive. Possibly the KD 9. I'll wait until they're on sale though. Until then, I probably won't buy any new shoes.

I'm coming around to using modern materials on the classic sillouettes. Just takes some getting use to the new look.

Though I live in a climate where due to the snow, ice, slush, salt, and sand oftentimes the only practical winter shoe option is boots, and flyknit will get your feet wet. So that's why bball shoes are the only ones on my mind for the coming months, because the court is the only place I'll wear a sneaker from like dec. - feb.

I remember being surprised that those aqua 8s seemed to be sitting in stores though after they came out. The maroon 6s kinda did too.
13088111, Lebron 11's, and Chris Webbers (called the sensation or something now)
Posted by DJR, Fri Oct-28-16 08:06 PM
Both for $80. I loved those Webbers as a kid, but they were the most expensive bball shoe out - causing him to leave Nike. Got it for almost half the price that it cost 20 years ago....I'm glad the general public pretty much only cares about retro Jordans. Cheaper prices on the other retro shit that I like better than most J's anyway.

Lebron 11's are the only Lebron that's ever interested me, so I grabbed them when I saw them for cheap. probably going to start hooping in them, these things are beasts.
13088114, the lebron 11's are cool! they are a paradox to me

also mine squeek with every step, its almost annoying
13088115, ive worn them around the house and to shoot around in
Posted by DJR, Fri Oct-28-16 08:31 PM
They were uncomfortably tight on the sides and on my pinky toes at first, but now they feel good. I love the soft cushioning, which my feet and knees need if I'm hooping these days. Always loved the way these look, I wasn't paying the $200 retail when they came out though. But for $80? Hell yeah.
13088116, ya i got mine at the nike outlet store for something similar
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Oct-28-16 08:34 PM

my problem is they hurt the top of my foot, like where the toe box and the laces meet ya know?

its odd
13088118, Yeah, I've got no pain there
Posted by DJR, Fri Oct-28-16 08:49 PM
No pain anywhere now, though the first few wears were brutal on my pinkie toes.

Can't wait to hoop in these, though even if they don't work out on court I'll still wear them casually. They're one of the few modern bball shoes that I like the looks of to wear casually.
13088120, ya i probably dont wear them often enough
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Oct-28-16 09:00 PM
probably just need to be broken in better
13188343, lol totally, also super durable uppers, flimsy AF outsoles. paradox for sure
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:48 PM
I bought many pairs (lots of GRs at the outlet plus some cheap ID pairs on eBay that I liked) and only some squeak. The insole is what squeaks so I just change out the ones that do (you can also use that insole in the Kobe 9 very effectively, which I love doing).

They don't hurt my feet at all but you are not alone, LeBron primarily wore the Zoom Soldier that year because the 11s crushed his weird ass hammer toes. Other than the EXT model, which I wore outdoors with no problem, the outsoles fucking suck on those. All the dudes I hoop with that had them wore straight through their shits playing outside and indoors they didn't hold up great either. I don't use any one pair that often so I had no issues inside, only used the EXTs outdoors (the gray/purple ones).
13188709, im gonna have to try swapping the insole thanks! nm
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Aug-26-17 05:17 PM
13190015, you can also use kobe 9 insole in the lebron, feels funny at first but
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Aug-29-17 06:16 PM
in time it's kind of a nice change of pace, more space in the toe box and a different feel to the cushion. i do prefer the other way around though, lebron 11 insole in the kobe 9. takes out all the dead space and makes the shoe a lot softer and a bit faster

1. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/salvatore-ferragamo-gris-plain-toe-oxford-men/4327975

I copped the last pair they had in my size. had been watching them all year. The price had dropped by close to $360 when I snatched them. The paint splatters are inspired by Andy Warhol who wore this brand and model shoe back in his days. Ferragamo commissions artists in Italy to customize the shoes. Each pair is different from the next. There's a matching belt but I cannot wrap my mind around paying for a $500 belt regardless of how dope it is.

Here ya go: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/salvatore-ferragamo-paint-splatter-leather-belt/4321522?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=RODEO

2. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/salvatore-ferragamo-parigi-patent-leather-driving-shoe-men/3812387?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK%2F%20BLACK%20PATENT%20LEATHER

Copped these at the same time as the others. They were both in my Wishlist. Had been sitting on them for a while. Once the sale hit, I got these for almost nothing ($100) because of the rewards points ($) I have accumulated at Nordstroms since August of this year. Kick around joints for the weekend and traveling.

3. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/salvatore-ferragamo-gerard-wingtip-men/4270633

The last of my Ferragamo spree for this year. I needed a fresh wingtip that could go from work to the bar and back.

4. https://www.mrporter.com/en-se/mens/grenson/sid-polished-leather-wingtip-brogues/723991?ppv=2

I bought these right before Thanksgiving when they had a 30% sale popping off. When they arrived, I tried them on to find that they were too damned big. Mr. Porter's conversion chart and statement of "Fits true to size" was inaccurate. When I went to the site to perform an exchange, they were already sold out of the size I now needed which was a UK8 for this brand. Decided to send them back and not toy around with trying to make them fit. Plus, I'm not a big fan of wearing black shoes anyway. So, I wasn't in love with them per se. More so statement pieces for when I'm in the mood to do something different than my normal. These were gonna be a kick around shoe for casual Fridays and the weekends.

I'm really just in the mood to do Stan Smiths or some other classic cheap sneakers like that right now. All my money is going towards building a lifetime wardrobe with shoes that I can keep for the next ten to fifteen years. Dropped #1 and #3 off Saturday to have the soles and heels protected. Tonight, I'm gonna put that first coat of wax to make sure they're ready to be put to work.

Edit: I did cop these about a month ago.

Yeah. Find a nice one and do the same. I don't see why it could be a bad move either.

On the black version of this shoe, they use blue and pink if I remember correctly.

these fuckers have sever fucking toe chop.

its the rubber toe box.

the first 4 times I wore them I would end up limping because my toes were getting smashed with every step

I ended up adding a footbed on a whim and it totally fixed the issue.

I'm on year two and they are still holding up
13102122, I've worn them three or four times. Haven't had the toe chop.

But I just loved this shoe. Only $99 after discount too.

13188208, PK is actually very easy to clean
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 01:53 PM
Take a mild soap, even like body wash is OK, squirt a small amount (like what you'd put in a sponge or slightly less) and put in a little cup. Fill the cup with tepid water (cold if you have stains) and swish the soap around. Dip a toothbrush in there and then firmly (but not roughly) brush the uppers. Dry with a very soft towel or a fresh flannel. I have those white/silver ultraboosts and they get dirty AF every other wear, my girlfriend also trashes her pink uncaged ones running. I clean them both and they look great. The bigger issue is snags, I snagged a pair of AceControl Boosts on my hi-hat stand and it was very delicate to repair.

I like those Lillards, Bounce cushioning is nice when done right. The next Lillards will have it also. Just one sort of side release of his with Boost. I am not obsessed with Boost for basketball, in fact more times than not it has come out kinda poorly.
13188328, Good looks, I'm sure I'll refer back to this when needed
Posted by DJR, Thu Aug-24-17 07:19 PM
Yeah, I like the bounce cushioning in those Lillards a lot. Still haven't played in them though. Really loving the engineered mesh Kobe 11. It fits me perfectly and the traction is great.

I've only played in boost with the D Rose 6. II really noticed around the time I switched to those that my feet and back and knees were feeling fine after playing. But I also always felt slow in them. I think part of it was it's just a big ass shoe, but the cushioning was almost too much to where you're sinking in, which made me feel slower.
13188332, Kobe 11 didn't do much for me
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:28 PM
The mesh versions I didn't like the cushioning that much, the Flyknit versions just suck, Flyknit as of now is not a good material for basketball shoes. I got two ID pairs with the drop-in Zoom Air and that solved the cushioning issue but they are heavier, less forgiving in the box and all-around awkward compared with the mesh version. After two hits with the Kobe 8 and 9, I think I have given up on the Kobes. The AD was a real loser and a preview of things to come. I do not think he'll be a guy that moves a lot in retirement.
13188365, i like the cushioning because I don't notice it much either way
Posted by DJR, Thu Aug-24-17 09:55 PM
I'm not sinking into it, but it's not too firm.

I heard those Kobe AD NXT's are good to play in.
13188378, was that the weird mid top one with a shroud?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 11:56 PM
i only tried the standard low that was like $160. i saw the sort of beige or taupe colored mid with the weird wrap or shroud or whatever on it. they got down to $56 at the nike outlet but they were just too ugly for me to even entertain.
13188382, Yup, I think it's a low though
Posted by DJR, Fri Aug-25-17 12:17 AM
https://m.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/kobe-ad-nxt-mens-basketball-shoe/pid-11391478/pgid-11562580

It's got some type of thing over the tongue that you pull to tighten it, rather than laces. Supposedly creates a great fit and the traction is right. Definitely an ugly shoe, and at $200 I didn't consider copping retail. I'd possibly go for it if I come across it at an outlet at some point.

They got another Kobe AD dropping today. I don't know why you'd put out two different shoes with the same exact name within a year(as well as the AD NXT). Maybe they know that first AD was a misstep and are trying to basically make it forgotten?
13188536, oh ok i have seen those but that wasn't what i was describing
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Aug-25-17 12:45 PM
those look OK i also saw he is doing some color pack thing soon. i dunno the kobe line was so hit and miss to me. i really liked the 2, 4, 6 to some extent, 8 and 9.

Though the guy working there told me that was unusual for them to still be there. Something about them getting audited. First time I've ever seen a colorway that I liked in a store, so I grabbed them. I would imagine they'll start getting easier to just walk into a store and pick up like that as they've been out for a few years. Don't know though.

lately i have gorged on them because they hit the 50% rack, plus i get an additional 20% back (weird foreign tax thing). they end up being about $90, though some colors were like $5 more. in the states the prices are still pretty high but you see them at decent buys on eBay and more colors are available for sure. i say go uncaged, especially if you're not actually wearing them for running.

13188191, did you? i am sooo underwhelmed
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 01:32 PM
been looking forward to these for two years and despite the initial hype i found a pair at the outlet for $120. i went half a size up to 11.5 (usually I am 11, sometimes 10.5), something i found myself doing with nike runners lately (also went up half a size for the Zoom Fly). The fit is odd, the stability is non-existent, the cushioning is much firmer than expected (but with little structure) and I can't imagine they would last very long on the road. At the price point I'd way rather have a pair of Mizuno Wave Prophecy or even the ritzier New Balances (which I don't think they make anymore). I'd even take some Gel Kinseis over these. The Flyknit max I liked a lot, very squishy and cushy, which you'd expect from these. Better use of Flyknit on these--really forms to the foot, especially with that sock--but the sole is a big ass loser to me. This and the Adidas Crazy Explosive 2017 were both huge disappointments to me.
13188362, Didn't cop yet
Posted by spenzalii, Thu Aug-24-17 09:47 PM
Biggest reason is they didn't have a colorway I liked enough to spend $190 on yet (or $230+ on NikeID). I can wait
13188379, i wouldn't bother personally and yes colorways have been ass
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 11:57 PM
some are passable and i like the solid color look but overall they have not had any that moved me. i got the first ones that dropped just because they were cheaper, flipped em and pocketed a hundo for something else.
13188460, I'm good waiting. It's more the look than anything
Posted by spenzalii, Fri Aug-25-17 10:16 AM
There's little chance I'd do any actual running in them, and have no idea whether I'd even like the combination of the Flyknit and all air pockets under feet (haven't been in a huge rush to try on a pair in store). If I could have found the triple black on release day, I probably would have copped that day, but my internal buzz has died down a bit, especially since I got the blacked out LD-Zeros.

I have to assume Nike will use the Air setup with a few different uppers in due time as they get their processing and tooling up to speed. I'd like to see what they do and can wait until then, unless I can snag a pair now at a better price (or they drop, say, an Infared colorway now)
13190016, yeah as more colors drop more will hit the outlets
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Aug-29-17 06:18 PM

I'm a fan of them aesthetically, and I like bounce cushioning on the Lillards. I gotta look into whether they're actually good to run in. I'm getting to where I don't want to cop any more casual sneakers that i don't really need for awhile, but I could use a pair of running sneakers that I can also wear casually.
13188339, novelty shoe to me, nothing special
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:40 PM
they had a lot of buzz initially but i think they are just OK. they do have a springiness to them that is kind of cool but they are on the narrow side and they have one of those outsoles that makes you ask "WTF surface is this made for???"

they made it to the outlets here at 50% off, initial price was slightly higher (117 instead of 100 flat) so they were like $60. i passed, just didn't see myself using them with any regularity

til this past December....since then, I've grabbed 3 more colorways. Trying to get on the Boost tip. I got a pair of Pure Boost, didn't find them special at all. Gonna grab some Ultras or some NMDs in a second.
13135332, the NMDS are just ok in my opinion
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed Mar-15-17 07:24 PM
they are comfortable but not much to them since the upper is very thin

plus the way the sole is shaped makes for an odd feel however I do enjoy wearing them but I don't think I'd buy another pair

I was gonna try on the pure boosts but have not yet I'm cures how they feel I'll have to do that since they actually have them in the stores

But ya as far as ultraboosts go I'm hooked just from a comfort standpoint and the way they breath I really find myself not wanting to wear anything else.

what the fundamental diff. between Boosts and NMDs was.
13135993, there is a significant difference in the boost vs ultraboost
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Mar-17-17 02:58 PM
my wife has the stan smith boosts
i have the NMD

essentially same sole

super soft and comfy but NOT even close to what I would call actual support of the ultraboost

The ultraboost has these extra bits that really make a difference, the torsion system and the extra arch support
13188380, NMD2 has more boost to it but is less stylish
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 11:59 PM
I would say if you want the Boost feel in order would be

1) Ultra Boost Uncaged
2) Ultra Boost
3) Energy Boost
4) Pure Boost
5) Crazy Explosive (first version)
6) D Rose 6
7) NMD 2

There was one model that had Formotion in the heel that felt good but it did not have that plush Boost to it, same with lines like the response and super nova (though i have not tried the latest one, which has larger volume boost similar to the energy boost)
13188331, 7s I only like certain ones like the Olys to me feel cheap
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:26 PM
Nubuck raptors are nice, bordeaux I guess but they have always seemed kinda ugly to me. The heavy leather like the cardinal and french blue were decent though french blue didn't do much for me aesthetically either.

NMD is trash IMO, it's like the pure boost but not as floppy (a plus) and not as much boost (especially the first version). IMO it's Ultra Boost or nothing, the Energy boost is also OK and you can find it cheap sometimes. Ultra Boost is nice. For basketball D Rose 6, Crazy Explosive (the first ones only!) and I guess the Harden are good Boost models. Everything else ranges from decent to kinda junky. They haven't really perfected that yet.
13188465, I'm a fan of the nubuck joints...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Aug-25-17 10:40 AM
or leather/nubuck combos like Cigars, Barcelona Days, Hares. I feel exactly like you do about French Blues and Cardinals. The only all leather ones I have are the FTLOG Olympic jawns and some Marvin the Martians.
13188915, Cardinals are clean but they kinda bored me at first
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Aug-27-17 10:11 PM
Overall I think the most surprising thing about the retro fad was that ALL the models 1-13 gained good traction. When they first came out some of the pairs were not very popular, particularly 7-10.

I'm looking for Russ Bengston's email so I can tell him to stop it with this 'what about the wizards era?' bullshit.

he's not campaigning for or against, but the very notion that any of the J's MJ played in during his Wizards stint could ever be dope is preposterous.

they trash bruh. they ugly. the silhouette's were trash and they don't mesh with any kind of gear that's ever been in style except basketball short.

and they still trash. LOL

talking about where the J line went wrong and pointing to the 17, 18, 22, etc.

my opinion is this

1- Classic silhouette, worthless as a performance shoe, cool in OG colors ONLY.

2- Softer casual shoe, not much to look at and generally dull AF. OG colors and Melos vaguely acceptable.

3- Bonafide beauty, great in some new colors, all OG colors except the fire red (WTF is that on the toe? Brown?)

4- Nice silhouette but widely overrated IMHO, also kind of heavy and clunky

5- Easily the best of the pre-tech Jordans, legitimately good shoe for basketball for almost any player/position, looked great, too. These were the all-time best seller before the retro whoring out happened, and with good reason. Also loved the quality of the Laney and white/silver + colors.

6- Less visually appealing extension of the 5, also could be balled in, looked cool in a wide array of colors including some non-OG ones (Motorsports are a nouveau classic).

7- This kicked off an era where visually Jordans went backwards but started to define themselves with premium materials and the absence of a swoosh. Sort of a transition model. Shared my thoughts on it above

8- Looked cool though in context they had too much overlap with the Air Raid for me. The tongue logo was a beauty. Comfort wise they were very hit and miss to me, I actually thought the Retro 8 (much like the Retro 12) improved considerably upon the comfort of the original. That's not the case with others, like the 11s and 15s today are way shittier than the OGs or early retros. Not very durable, unlike a lot of other tank-ass Jordans (7, 12, etc).

9- They got cushier and the aesthetics started to get well-defined. It's a shame this was a retirement Jordan, it didn't get its due. I loved the Flint/French blue retro and low key the del sol ones among others. Underrated if anything even though it wouldn't quite crack my top 5.

10- I really did not like these as OGs but when they came back out I kind of dug them. Part of it was colorways like the ice blue and linen. The early colorways looked alike essentially, not much going on. Nice leather, nice cushioning, overall a middle of the road Jordan to me.

11- Obviously a gorgeous silhouette, the OG Air unit felt great. It had some construction issues and the way it narrowed around the lateral side of the foot was annoying. I hate any and all Retro models of it that came after 2008's black/red CDP. Not only have they been ugly (with the exception of the dark red girls' version), they have cheaped out on the cushioning and materials. Obviously a classic, to me personally it's top 5.

12- Love this shoe and the second generation of it was great, kept the materials, improved the feel and may have reduced the weight slightly even. This is the most visually appealing Jordan to me and the most durable. Not great for basketball but not bad either. They look classy and they stay looking that way for a long time. The playoffs colorway is my single favorite AJ model.

13- Another one I love but Nike has raped it of late with cheap ass materials and ugly colorways. OG colorways and some newer ones (altitudes, I will even do the squadron blue, wheat and team red ones) look good or flat out great. The feel was pretty good and they used great materials without weighing a lot. To see the Doernbecher ones, DMP II ones, forthcoming Love & Respect model, etc, it just pains my heart. They look and feel like piping hot garbage.

14- This is where I think the line turned for the worse a bit though I still appreciate the shoe. These were lighter but also felt decidedly cheaper than the three previous models, which I consider the pinnacle of the Jordan line. The midsole creased instanteously upon wear. They were real low to the ground, kind of fast and nice use of Zoom Air but it added to the cheap feel. Technically these are not a post-retirement Jordan, I guess, but they sort of established what would continue in ...

15- Maybe the worst Jordan of all-time. The distinct silhouette and the materials were ambitious, but the result was wretched. The crappy leather around most of the shoe wore poorly, the sole was wack AF and the woven leather really didn't integrate well to a basketball shoe. They were shooting for something like the OG 13, they wound up with someone like the contemporary 13. The retros are worse, cheaper material sourcing and no forefoot zoom.

16- They almost turned it around here, reaching back for a touch of the 11s as those were retroing. The Zoom unit was nice, but beyond some leather overlays, the patent toe and the fucking useless shrouds, this was basically a mesh shoe that was poorly constructed and didn't have great traction. The shroud looked cool but fit and felt weird. It was too integral to the design of the shoe. To me the 16.5 was actually a better shoe as it didn't have the shroud and had a more durable, stable and better cushioned outsole borrowed from ...

17- They officially ditched the whole lateral curvature here and went to a wide base, they also made a big shift toward performance emphasis. Much like the 7, this was a transition model that was kind of plain and unappealing visually but shifted the line. Performance wise it was nice, but the price tag was too high and the leather was on the cheap side, adding insult to injury.

18- Could have been a contender and in fact I'd argue the suede version was pretty awesome. The leather ones creased and cracked too much. I had the black/royal for years, kept buying new pairs. Black/red CDP was also nice. If all the colorways were suede or a grainier leather, I'd fuck with this model hard. It also needed to breath better. But the Zoom Unit was fucking awesome, the carbon fiber was the best plate until the XX8 and the look, while not a classic Jordan, was simple but not boring. I would argue these are another underrated model, though not for AJ purists.

19- These felt great on the bottom but the uppers were clunky and hot. The shoe looked like crap to me, it had too much going on. Materials were pretty nice overall. It was too soon for more patent leather. These are forgotten because they are forgettable. The lows were kind of clean in some colors, same could be said of the 13 and 16 lows though generally I think of Js as 3/4 cut, period.

20- Pod construction was nice for a lot of spinoff models. They looked decent though the ankle strap was pointless from a performance standpoint and detracted from the rest of the shoe. I'd have preferred to see them without it and have the material at the ankle come up higher. These haven't aged well, as seen in the rock-bottom prices on the retros

21- Like the 18, all the colors should have been suede probably but the leather ones did use a very nice leather. Comfortable shoe with some visual appeal but it was just too wide and funky, didn't have an alluring shape to it at all.

22- Very comfortable when new and springy but didn't wear very well and looked like shit. Calling these a Jumpman model would be generous. The basketball ones and omega colorways were passable, generally though these were in the Jumpman Masterpiece category more than an actual numbered Jordan.

23- Ambitious, intriguing but ultimately a bust. Weird outsole. They felt stiff. They fit weird. Not sure who these were made for but it wasn't made. They did look cool in a couple different colorways. The retro makeups have been hideous.

2009- What the fuck is this? Is that a pair of Steve Francis Reeboks? Oh, that's the Air Jordan for this year. KILL IT WITH FIRE.

2010- These looked horrible and felt weird. How can you be boring and too futuristic at the same time? Seemed like a shoe Nike would have designed for Tim Duncan had he still been with the brand. The Team 2010 had the same tooling essentially but looked better and played a lot better IMHO. That was an overlooked model. These were kind of comfy but a little unwieldy (huge outrigger, leather uppers that weren't present on the team version) and the visual appeal wasn't there.

2011- Again these seemed like a Jumpman type model to me. Interchangeable insole concept was nice, performance was pretty good but visually they just had nothing going for them. Completely forgettable and, now, completely forgotten.

2012- I will go to the mat for these. They weren't great to look at and had an early Jumpman model look to them, but they felt and played great. They were durable, they had a great carbon fiber plate, the ankle was well supported and the interchangeable bootie and insole concept was money. For $223 or even the lower amounts that non-"system" models were sold at, they were a rip, but by that point the Jordan models were regulars at the outlets for 50% off. I will single this out as possibly the best AJ between the 14 and XX8. Visually inoffensive, durable and great performers.

XX8- In my opinion one of the best basketball shoes ever made, despite its odd and seemingly worthless shroud concept (I still liked the standard XX8 more than the shroudless SE). The traction is the best I have ever felt. The big Zoom units were not quite the cushiest (think KD6, Hyperflight Max, LeBron X) but close and in terms of responsiveness and stability they were number one. The carbon fiber plate was awesome. This was a great performance shoe and some of the colorways were solid, while others were weird. They didn't take full advantage of the large canvass that the shroud provided and more colorways should have a solid color inside the shroud like the black/black/green ones did. But other than color choices, the design was solid aesthetically and fucking incredible performance-wise. The big Zoom units are here to stay, though the subsequent models have not improved upon them.

XX9- The woven upper is introduced. No Zoom in the heel despite a price increase, that was a disappointment. I like the way they sort of kept you on the balls of your feet and your toes, but they needed something in the heel. Too much slippage in the uppers. The Melo M11 had the same tooling was a much better performer with its heel support and firmer materials. Appearance wise I liked the big Jumpman logo models, the BHM and they used the canvass well on the college PEs, they looked awesome.

XXX- A huge disappointment, more an XX9 SE than a new model. Same tooling with worse traction and while it didn't slip it added new problems at the achilles and toe were it was just too stiff. I wanted to love these but ended up sort of hating them. For some people they were probably great, your foot would have to be a certain shape and you'd play only indoors, I guess. They also looked like shit, very boring.

XXX1- Also a disappointment but they looked a lot better than the XXX to me. The battle grey model felt great. Stability was a major issue and traction was not good. I liked the idea of a full-length Zoom bag that size, but with no transition really in the midfoot it didn't come off very well. Most of the woven upper versions (almost every colorway) didn't work well with the tooling either. These could have felt and performed way better than they did.

XXX2- Haven't tried it but carbon fiber in the midfoot and the upper construction look promising. They look more like a Melo model than a signature Jordan. Performance is going to have to carry them but it just might.

in fact i would ball in some Reebok X Beams before those.

the 17 i admit was ugly but comfy, the 16.5 had the same sole with the 16 upper so it sort of killed two birds with one stone. those sunk like a stone in price though, no hype around them.

the 19 was kinda wack why did it look so fucking BIG? you could be wearing a size 9.5 and it would look like a 14.

the 18 isn't for everyone but personally i loved how it felt and the look grew on me.

Posted by Dstl1, Tue Mar-14-17 08:38 AM
I first saw the Dub Zero back in 2006 when I was in Hawaii during my 2 week leave during my deployment. I went into a Nike store and had no idea wtf they were. They were kinda funky looking with all the different Jordans mixed into them. Didn't pay them much mind after that, til I got home for good toward the end of that year and revisited them. I have some in other colors, but the white/ceramic joints had evaded me. Now if I can find some Anniversary 9's

13135795, Prada and Nike: Considering these right now...

I'm in the mood to treat myself right now. I saw these and thought about playing in a pair all spring and summer '17. Just can't decide which I really wanna pull the trigger on. I can see rockin' them in some raggedy denim, slim fit chinos, and even a nice cotton suit. Whether a t-shirt or dress shirt, these would be the focal point of anything I rocked with 'em. The all-white Flyknit Racers would fit right in with what I typed a second ago. And besides, they're just dope!

Won't pull the trigger til I cop this ring and pay that college deposit. So, I've got a little bit of time to decide.

Going to an all white party tomorrow night. Considering grabbing the all white ones because I like these so much. Generally, I only do classic all-white sneakers. Jack Purcells or Stan Smiths. These are comfortable as hell and would do wonders for me since I would be on my feet for the better part of the evening.

I remember the summer those Uptempo's first dropped. I believe it was '96. They were nice as hell to hoop in. I was playing in an outdoor league down in PG. District Heights to be exact. These were may favorites to wear on that outdoor court because I felt no pain or aching when the games were over.

They still look fresh as hell. Just the other day, a I was passing Mondawmin, I saw someone with a pair of the white, grey, and black ones on their feet. Yo, they were nice as hell.

I still regret to this day never copping a pair of the first Air Max Uptempos in '95. That's why I went crazy for me and my son, more so for him, when the Air Max More Uptempo's dropped. I had one pair but he had every release that came out. Didn't hurt that my bro worked at Foot Locker. LOL
13188183, Havent been fucking with Nike as much but lots of Adidas pickups
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 01:24 PM
Nike really isn't doing much for me now, I did get some LeBron 14s and I am pleased overall. Not really the quality of materials I would expect from a $175 shoe but I paid $96 so it matters now, for that price they are good. No more weird foam components or hard points and the HexZoom is the best yet by far. Impact protection is just OK but they feel great while you're playing, just slight soreness after or after a big landing (did a long jump thing at the gym and it hurt a little). Overall the best LeBron since the XI if not earlier, nice fluid movement to them, good fit overall, good cushioning.

I have been playing in those and the first Clutchfit Drive mostly, still a classic to me. I've tried some newer Under Armour models but I cannot warmup to the Charged foam for basketball. Micro G is still my shit through newer models like the Rocket are just OK to me.

Adidas I have gotten a lot of the Ace Control Boost (the mint green, black/red/white, champagne Beckham ones, etc) and a black Nemeziz Ultra Boost. Lots of regular and uncaged UBs also, they have been hella cheap here (about $90 a pair including for good colors like triple black and Super Bowl) so I've bought to sell and to wear also. The Crazy Explosive was a very good shoe except the outsole was shit, very disappointed to see it back on the CE 2017. The only plus on the 2017 is the "forged" primeknit, nice and sturdy, but the construction fucking sucks. I hate these ankle sock models, they always mean a hard and/or weird heel counter that creates blisters or worse. Very disappointing. Looking forward to the Harden 2.0, I guess, not so much the D Rose 8. The 7 was way too narrow in the midfoot for my liking and I liked the Boost setup more on the 6 (6 PK I wear a lot).

I have also pretty much given up on collecting vintage stuff, too likely to fall apart and often you can't even spend the money to reinforce them. I still have a pretty big collection of 90s and early 00s stuff but definitely way less than I used to. On that front I did get some Superman and Oilers LeBron 3 and some Sole Collector friends and family pairs (Soldier 1, Flight Club, etc) but those I will probably sell.

Finally got some Yeezys, not impressed. They seem to be losing their luster, too, but hopefully someone wants them. The price was right.

Of the signature shoes this past year I like LeBron and Harden. Lillard would have been great but a bit narrow, Rose had the same issue or they'd have been very good. I got the BHM ones in both models but didn't keep them. Kobe's shit sucked this year, no idea why they went back to the woefully unsuccessful setup like they had with the 10s (encapsulated Lunar, heel Zoom that you can't feet for shit). Kyries continue to be boring AF, at least this year's model looked kinda cool and was more stable, but I hate the lack of cushioning. They feel cheap AF to me. PG was unambitious to me, cheap materials, just the one Zoom bag in the forefoot but overall OK looking, OK performing. I think KD's line is stepping it up, the 9 Elite was nice and the 10 is nice as well, rare low top that I feel secure in and nice cushioning, not as narrow as some earlier models either. I feel like there is a real lack of ambition in these models, no one is willing to take a chance or give the line identity like they did with Gary Payton, Penny, Barkley, et al. A lot of conservative choices that would work if they delivered more consistent performance. They did kind of go out on a limb with LeBron's stuff leading up to this model but they didn't deliver, they were just heavy and weird for the most part.
13188189, Understood. The adidas pair that I mentioned up there was...

>The only plus on the 2017 is the "forged" primeknit, nice and sturdy, but the construction fucking sucks. I hate these ankle sock models, they always mean a hard and/or weird heel counter that creates blisters or worse.

giving me the feeling, upon first wear, that I cold get a blister. To mitigate that, I bent the support backwards and then began wearing footies that came up a little higher on my heel but are still invisible. Since doing so, the shoe is damned comfortable all over.
13188194, yeah i am toying with the idea of protection. how did you bend it though?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 01:38 PM
i used a couple different setups to cushion but they either were not enough or forced my foot forward so that the shoe no longer fit. i also feel like they are not as fluid as the 2016. did you have those? my only complaint there was the weak outsole and I guess they were on the hot side, but that's not a big deal to me. With these I don't feel the same fluidity. All these sock setups are like that, they are basically a low top shoe with a bunch of extra material (think like the LunarEpic mid running shoe or first Hyperrev). I feel like I have a heavy, rigid low top on and a bunch of dead material and above it (though the sock feels nice). The 2016 I didn't feel that, it had even more padding around the ankle and the shoe just fit firmly but flexibly all around my foot.
13188381, how did you bend the support? using what?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Aug-25-17 12:01 AM
i'd like to take it right the fuck out of these if I could but it seems dicey. if they had a feel and fluidity similar to the acecontrol, good gawd they would be fiyah

Just to relieve some of the tension that came from the pressure around my heel. Felt like something was digging into my heel/Achilles. Didn't don anything drastic because I wasn't sure of the material nor how much damage could be caused if I went too far with it.

Doing so has made them even more comfortable.

Posted by infin8, Thu Aug-24-17 04:51 PM
and charging premium prices for CAD design models of shit I had in high school is not whassup.

I been on Diadoras lately.
13188329, They did. I don't mind copping modernized retros if they're cheap...

https://sneakerbardetroit.com/nike-air-zoom-pegasus-92-stadium-green/

Just walked outta the mall with these. Copped for $55.

adidas is all over em right now. Again, I'll take modernized retros if they're comfortable and as true to the original as possible.
13188335, the prioblem is that they don't use the OG specs
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:37 PM
Total Air shoes with Air Max 360 volume bubbles, carbon fiber midfoot plates with cheap plastic and a shitty painted pattern, Foamposite that isn't real Foam and has shitty paint that chips off, etc.

The retros now spit in the face of the originals.

I am only interested in new stuff and like you said the innovation is not really there. Of course in some places it is, like Jordan Brand is as performance oriented now as any company has been but the irony there is that when they made nice looking stuff with great materials that felt awkward AF it did way better than for the handful of seasons that they were leading the industry in performance. D Wade, Melo, the return of the numbered Jordans, all great performances lines that haven't fared all that well.

I am curious to see this new tech in the Hyperdunk. A lot of things seem like the period in the early 00s where they had just a lot of misfires. Not so much Shox, which has some success, but like the Tuned and Tubular Air that didn't last long, a lot of the weird "cage" designs they had, etc. They were innovating but not successfully. Same thing now, lots of synthetics and oddball tech. Lunarlon was a bleh move to me (though I did like the Hyperdunk 2013 and 2014 and the new iteration for running is better) and the new VaporMax style air bag sucks. Flyknit is not a material they can use in all applications, though oddly Adidas seems capable of doing it with Primeknit. They are putting money and effort behind it, I just think they have gone too far in certain directions that were losers from the start.
13188397, I can't comment on basketball shoes because it's been years...
Posted by Creole, Fri Aug-25-17 07:57 AM
since I copped any. Never liked Foams to begin with.

Most of what I do cop now are running/lifestyle shoes because I can rock with jeans, chinos, slacks, shorts, joggers, etc. and feel sleek. Basketball shoes are too clunky looking for me especially the retros.

And really, I don't wear them enough. I may just cop a pair to rock with a t-shirt that I really like and then throw the sneakers in the closet until I can find something else to rock them with.

Edit:
An example of the above stated is here. I was looking for a sneaker that I could rock, to a white party, with this tee:
https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/mens/ps_by_paul_smith/printed-organic-cotton-jersey-t-shirt/882779#

So instead of copping a pair of all-white Nike Presto's, I opted for this pair that I posted up last night.
https://sneakerbardetroit.com/nike-air-zoom-pegasus-92-stadium-green/

Even though it's an all-white party, I still like to introduce some color to it to be different. And since I may be on my feet for a substantial part of the night, I needed comfort. The price point of $55 didn't hurt the cause either.

13188538, yeah on lifestyle stuff they are way behind adidas imo

13188337, i saw those pharrells for 40 bucks on adidas colombia
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Aug-24-17 07:38 PM
sold out hella fast, they 140 or so to start with here (i think 130 in the states). we didn't get the barricade and the other tennis model he did here.
13188320, Copped the Pharrell Hus

Funny looking but comfy as shit. I love em
13188419, I wanted to cop the green accented ones...
Posted by Creole, Fri Aug-25-17 08:52 AM
because they are classic looking. Sold out online and can't be found in stores. The stores only have the pastel accented ones.

The Stan Smith inspiration gets me every time.
13188366, Copped some LD-Zeros and Silver Bullet Air Max TNs

Needed a pair of all black Air Max shoes to replace my AM'10s. So nondescript I can even wear them to work all day and nobody notices. My wife liked them so much I bought her a pair

http://images.solecollector.com/complex/images/fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/f195svvhhy7qcdc9rogo/nike-air-max-plus-silver-bullet-release-date-903827-001

I had to get rid of the 'replica' TNs I got online as they didn't feel good on my feet. I wanted to get a pair of th eAM'97 re-releases but the colorway looked much better on the TN. 3M reflective tape all around is a nice touch too
13188780, nice to see a good colorway in the AMP
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Aug-27-17 10:47 AM
normally i only like the fade mesh uppers on those like the OG ones but those are pretty clean with the 97 colorway.

13188372, Just ordered the new grey flyknit trainers...

It was between the grey and the sunsets but I thought the grey goes with more. Can't wait for them to come in.
13188420, DOPE!
Posted by Creole, Fri Aug-25-17 08:54 AM
I bought a pair of Flyknit Racers last summer. DOPE and comfortable shoes but damn they cost so much for so little.

13188657, RE: DOPE!
Posted by ry 213, Sat Aug-26-17 10:44 AM
I have 3 pairs of the flyknit Racers, they are by far my favourite shoe. Super comfortable and light. This is my first pair of trainers so I'm excited to see how they compare.
13188375, Bred 12's & 13's.

13188409, they reissued the spizikes in white cement and i'm conflicted

13188421, YUH!
Posted by Creole, Fri Aug-25-17 08:57 AM
My lady wanted a pair of the Pure Money 3s as a Mother's Day gift. Since then, I've been wanting to grab a pair myself. These joints are nice though. As I said above, basketball shoes just look clunky to me. And it's been a long while since I've worn a pair in a casual setting. I wouldn't even know how to really rock 'em other than with some sweats. I do dig these.
13188441, I've always preferred Son of Mars over Spizikes, but these go hard...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Aug-25-17 09:43 AM
I might catch a pair on Ebay after the heat dies down a bit.
13188448, Patiently waitin (c)...to cop these Cool Grey 8's tomorrow morning...

13188454, I bought a pair of 6 Rings in that same colorway.
Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Aug-25-17 10:02 AM
Before I saw these were dropping. The 8's are heavy as shit, in general, but these are pretty dope.
13188459, lol...I bought them shits, too...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Aug-25-17 10:15 AM
I gave them to my son, but now he can't fit them anymore.
13188461, Pharrell Ubersonic 2s US Opens
Posted by B9, Fri Aug-25-17 10:21 AM
Finger hovering over the checkout button, and I'm not a collector just an actual tennis player that will wear and destroy these shoes. $30 premium for the colorway, but I think they look incredible in a shoe category (actual shoes for the sport of tennis) plagued with ass ugly designs/colors.

http://images.solecollector.com/complex/images/fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/yb6cowwr6tebvjnmfvgy/adidas-tennis-pharrell-ubersonic-2-pair
13188539, they look nice, i like the barricade ones as well
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Aug-25-17 12:48 PM
neither one is worth $150 to me but if they leak out onto the sale racks i will grab em both. the HU pharrells were $40 here, but they sold out like instantly when the price dropped. maybe these will surface also.
13188884, Opted for the Nike Zoom Cage 3 in grey/aurora

wide toe box, form fitting upper and they feel incredible once they are broken in.

i used to love the zoom tech challenge, zoom pounce and zoom assailant. no idea why they don't retro ALL of andre's shit

I'm not a AF1 guy at all, but I'm not mad at his choice of these. Black and gum work perfectly with his uniform (which he didn't realize until I told him. He's still a bit clueless of a few things)
13188490, got a couple pairs of the flyknit version of that one...love em

Might have to cop either the Limitless or the Evoknit
13188664, revolve has some of evoknit models for 60 bucks
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Aug-26-17 11:19 AM
i see a lot of people wearing them. generally i think puma makes *some* very stylish and comfy models but they can't get any real traction in the U.S. market. identity confusion, i guess, they aren't really a performance brand but their best lifestyle stuff is kind of performance-y. some of their kicks are really comfortable as a result.
13188988, I wanna give Puma a shot because of Roc Nation's influence..
Posted by Creole, Mon Aug-28-17 09:19 AM
on style. Emory Jones who has been working on some dope stuff for Puma.

Clydes are my favorite all-time Puma shoe because my uncles used to rock them when I was a kid. So, whenever I can cop a fresh pair, I do.

One day soon, I may find a different style to cop just to support.

I'm rocking them shits this fall with some wool socks and vintage denim

I also copped some vans classic lo to kick around in this summer. I wore them shits like every weekend. I promised myself that I'd throw them away at the end of the season. No sense in holding on to shoes I know I wont wear anymore

Them 1s are kinda dope. The Flyknit will help the shoe look more streamlined than bulky. I can get with that since it's almost sweat suit season.
