12921776, a movie about 2 blk men who go back in time and get caught and sold Posted by godleeluv, Wed Nov-04-15 10:16 AM
Into slavery and spend the remainder of the movie trying to get back to the time machine. And take a lot of slaves with them.
A mixture of back 2 the future, the underground railroad and 12 years a slave.

same argument people made against Django Unchained for being a western set in a slavery setting.

and regardless of the fact that it was a good movie. Now a good part of that was due to the Director and his history with littering his screenplays with the N word.
But the minute that trailer hit, people were up in arms.... ______________________________________________________________________________

Why is it that the Wayans seem to be the only Black creators making "other" shit that ain't got shit to do with slavery, civil rights, or some other "important" shits?

and add on.
Can we get a black sci-fi flick that has nothing to do with any of the above?

12924256, I supported the Hughes Brothers flick "From Hell" Posted by PoppaGeorge, Sun Nov-08-15 04:12 PM
when I fist saw the trailer and saw who directed it I was like "fuckin finally!!!" I know they didn't write it, but back then to see Black directors at the helm of a movie that WASN'T about "da hood" or some historical event or Black figure was great.
Back then all we could get would be something like "Solo", which was utterly terrible, but it did star Mario Van Peebles (yes, I saw it). I've supported sci-fi that starred Black actors and actresses including:
Alien VS Predator Blade 1-3 Virtuosity Solo Supernova Strange Days Doom (save it... The Rock is Black.) Event Horizon The Book of Eli (also directed by the aforementioned Hughes Brothers) Pitch Black Chronicles of Riddick (produced by Vin Diesel) Riddick (also produced by Vin Diesel) I-Robot Hancock After Earth
And that's just off the top of my head. We don't really make many sci-fi flicks, but if there's a Black lead chances are I'm gonna check it out just on the strength.

12922171, why would 2 blk men go back to slavery? Posted by bentagain, Wed Nov-04-15 01:55 PM
just wondering what the premise is for the time travel to begin with
if they know they will be slaves
what's the motive
are they intentionally trying to end slavery by traveling into the past
do they bring modern weaponary/guns with them
travel back to the 1600s Africa and stop the slave trade to the new world
etc...

12922299, I got a K&P Skit Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Nov-04-15 03:27 PM
wants to be the first to go back. Other scientist having a hard time telling him he can't do it because he is black and it's going to suck for him.
Or the other way to do it is they want to send the black guy back and he doesn't want to do it because he knows it will suck.

12922903, So Kindred + an undreground railroad Posted by handle, Thu Nov-05-15 11:57 AM
I'd rather that be the premise/backstory and have a film that focuses on the former slaves coping with the 21st century.
Think of it as the Paul Rodriguez parts from Born In East LA - but with former slaves.
Maybe Kindred II: A fish outta water tale.

"Half-brothers, Joel and Régis, have a father in common, whom they hardly know. Joel is unemployed and miserable. He feels France is a racist country, and is that the government is to blame for all his failures, because he's black, and uses that as an excuse for not actively looking for work. Régis, on the other hand, loves France, and essentially hates his black self, and blackness in general, refusing to acknowledge his African slave roots. In his words, delinquency and immigration go hand in hand. Both are soon called to the bedside of their dying father in the Antilles, when they are presented with a document that contains information on their ancestral slave heritage - a document that has been passed down through the generations. In trying to determine the value of the document, they accidentally destroy it - an act that they are punished for for by a mysterious old woman, who has been following them since their arrival in the Antilles; the punishment being to send them back in time, all the way to, of course, the Transatlantic slavery period - 1780 specifically - where and when they are sold as slaves. The two brothers then have to work together to find a way to not only escape from the plantation, but also to find a way to return to the present day."
