12915630, when applying for a job, how' hard' do you go?
Posted by Kwesi, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
i just got an email from a stranger person applying for a job at this company. attached her resume, cover letter and everything.

i couldn't figure out how she'd gotten my email cause it's not published.

so immediately, i was impressed by this young lady's resourcefulness.

THEN i did some more investigation (actually opened the email) and noticed she sent it to staff@companyname.com.

i can't decided whether that's genius or lunacy.

what do you think?

Poll question: when applying for a job, how' hard' do you go?

Poll result (8 votes)
i submit the resume, wait for the call/reply back. it's the right thing to do. (4 votes)Vote
i don't go too hard, but i do call a couple people to make sure they got it. (1 votes)Vote

i submit the resume by sending an email to the entire staff of the company - staff@companyname.com - im smart. (1 votes)Vote

Subject: Training Coordinator Position

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am interested in applying for the Training Coordinator position posted on your website. I have attached my resume and application for your review. I believe my education, ability to multi-task, my strong attention to detail and my excellent organizational skills are a few credentials that meet your requirements.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Trinity Washington University and currently pursing my Master’s degree in Public Administration at Bowie State University. ....

12915669, Go hard or go home... but don't be desperate or crazy

I think e-mailing staff borders on crazy-ish, but shit, i'd give the resume a look just out of curiosity, so maybe it's smart. If everything checked out I'd probably even bring her in for an interview.

Times are tough, especially for youngsters, so you gotta throw some hail marys from time to time. Standing in line and waiting your turn doesn't really work.

12915700, what's creepy about that?
Posted by Trinity444, Fri Oct-23-15 12:09 PM
Companies get unsolicited resumes all the time
12915703, we wont take it to creepy. but it seems a bit unhinged.
Posted by Kwesi, Fri Oct-23-15 12:11 PM
because companies get unsolicited emails all the time, there's a good chance her resume submission would just be another piece of spam.

and i still support that. .

but the new news is that she lied, and acted like it was an accident.

nope nope nope, she's a lunatic.
12915716, I've only ever worked for friends or unopened restaurants
Posted by Nodima, Fri Oct-23-15 12:16 PM
so effort has been minimal at all turns. with the two restaurants, I didn't know the owners, so I went hard to make sure I made it past cut day, but that was just performance, nothing to do with applying.

but yea, 85% of my jobs friends have been my co-workers, managers, etc., so "applying" through my first 27 years hasn't amounted to much more than "hey I'll do that."

12919271, Did this work for her?
Posted by Kira, Fri Oct-30-15 01:17 PM
I've created websites with reasons why they should let me be great.

I've had dialogues over months with HR managers without being too pushy. I've done it all in order to get the career opportunity.
