People in Cali are rude, isolate themselves, and drive like idiots

Tangential...

this LA btw

My uber driver yesterday was THEE worst... and unfortunately ridiculously stereotypical...

Asian mom... passed my block on the way to get me.. looks like she made a crazy ass uturn (thx uber app). When she picks me up she is reading "printed out" instructions on how to operate her uber app.. makes a left onto a slightly busy street by basically pulling into the street all the way so she can see the traffic...

I was afraid...

but she was friendly.. Cali isolation happens cuz of cars not cuz ppl want to.. ppl with headphones on subway in ny are on the same tip... peep the j blake take down video.. a plainclothes officer can assault a dude in broad daylight and not one person questioned that shit..

I WAS going to caveat the Cali coldness being due to us being spread out and having to use cars to get around etc but nah

theres an inclusiveness vibe I get when in NY/east coast in general.

Maybe the weather causes folks to be that way..for each coast

12895328, Half of driving in ny is understanding that people are in a rush
Posted by Cenario, Sun Sep-13-15 05:21 PM
That explains 90% of bad drivers.

We have terrible pedestrians tho.
12895341, thats another thing.. California's are in a rush more than NYers

12895332, Most people in LA aren't from LA.

12895354, eh, the majority are either from L.A. or Mexico.
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Sep-13-15 07:38 PM
and it's not like NY doesnt have a shitload of transplants
12895342, You must not be from Cali
Posted by csuave03, Sun Sep-13-15 06:27 PM
Or you hate your fellow Californians
12895349, I've live in Cali
Posted by rdhull, Sun Sep-13-15 06:56 PM
12895348, I expected rudeness when I went to L.A.
Posted by SP1200, Sun Sep-13-15 06:46 PM
just off it being so big, but my experience was the opposite, the ppl
were cool as hell.
12895353, the first part is 100% true, at least of LA. second part, meh
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Sep-13-15 07:38 PM
i find people to be much nicer in the central coast and many parts of northern california. i think the assholeness is just a big city thing (somewhat present in SD and a little in SF). but yeah people in LA mostly suck.

new yorkers are more complex. i think a lot of the stereotypes are true (the type a personalities, the terseness, frankness, etc). but the rudeness varies. and in contrast to L.A. people--who don't know where the fuck they are going!--the New Yorker might call you a dumbshit but in the process he will give you correct directions/instructions.
12895609, Correction: You are referring to Southern Cali not all California
Posted by soken, Mon Sep-14-15 12:47 PM
12895612, true-ish. people get california fucked up all the time
Posted by double negative, Mon Sep-14-15 12:55 PM
live there for more than 5 years and get back to me about that opinion

but, yes, NY folks are friendly as fuck
12895613, People in the hood are actually way nicer than in the nice areas
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Mon Sep-14-15 12:55 PM
This might be the case everywhere. NY hood folks were super cool too.

"Son!! Who cut your hair, yo?? Your caesar is nice!!! You got them deep waves!!!" I had to not laugh too hard when dude a random dude on Flatbush told me that back in 07.
