This is a "bring back R&B" post.

We had this:

12871198, yes, I'm aware. It's called balance.
Posted by daryloneal, Tue Aug-04-15 01:51 PM
12871202, just like back then...
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Aug-04-15 01:55 PM
kids can balance like we did.

just like back then...we didn't listen to new music exclusively. we did also enjoy some older stuff. which means today's kids have the benefit of the music we listened to plus the newer stuff. that is - if they want it.

plenty of us didn't listen to the songs you posted in the OP - i was one of them, for example. i wasn't down w/corny-ass recent love songs - if i wanted a love song that wasn't all bumpin n grindin then i tended to reach a bit deeper into the past for it.

12871206, The relevance of the songs I posted is..
Posted by daryloneal, Tue Aug-04-15 02:02 PM
that they are r&b songs by successful artists that were in their teens at the time.

Meaning, we had the OPTION of listening to music that was made by artists that were our age at the time we were listening to it, and we grew up with these artists for a period of time.

Did ALL kids listen to those particular songs? Of course not. But those artists were selling tons of records so SOMEBODY was buying and listening.

So if your answer is that the current soundtrack for young people is older music, then yes, I still feel bad for them due to a lack of current music that is relatable as it pertains to love.

It's unfortunate.
12871212, i'm a grumpy old man too.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Aug-04-15 02:13 PM
but i'm not this grumpy.

the kids are fine.

when we were kids the old folks whined and moaned that ALL of our music was too fast and too loud and too crude. it wasn't like the music when THEY were kids - back before singers could just say anything on the radio and do anything on TV. but 'now' there's no standards. there's no subtlety. there's no art. <-- sound familiar?

again - we're old and grumpy. that's our problem. the kids are fine though.
12871222, I asked what's the soundtrack for kids in love.
Posted by daryloneal, Tue Aug-04-15 02:26 PM
I didn't say the current music was too crude. I'm asking where's the other option.

And if they don't have another current option, that's sad to me.

12871224, the soundtrack is the entire history of recorded music.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Aug-04-15 02:27 PM
anyway, i brought up the stuff the old folks said about OUR music to point out that old ppl always bitch about younger ppl's music. so the music you currently prize in this post was bitched about by old ppl back when it was new. and/or the old ppl said back then that ALL of our music was crude - in part b/c they weren't in touch enough to know that we had other current music that wasn't crude. the fact that they weren't up on it didn't mean it didn't exist.

12871227, great.
Posted by daryloneal, Tue Aug-04-15 02:29 PM
12871235, kids have MORE options today.
Posted by Mike Jackson, Tue Aug-04-15 02:31 PM

All Eyes On You with Nicki, Meek and Breezy was a cute love song with these lyrics:

Twitter Follow Embed

Baby, is you drunk? Is you had enough?
Are you here lookin' for love?
Got the club goin' crazy
All these bitches, but my eyes on you
Is you somebody's baby?
If you ain't, girl what we gon' do?
If you ain't gon' need it, baby
Give it all up for you right now
We got the club goin' crazy
All eyes on you

She was the baddest, I was the realest
We was the flyest, up in the building
We was countin' this money, lovin' the feelin'
Look at you now, in love with a hitta
But now it's all eyes on me, and it all lies on me
To say somethin' to your pretty ass
Some hood shit, like "what you looking at?”
Cause I'm good for that, Birkin bags, I'm good for that
Might just be your plug for that
You might fall in love with that, got love for that
What's your name? Who you with?
Where you from? You the shit
Choose and pick, get the right one
All these chicks, got to like one
All these hits, you got to like one
All these bottles, got to like some
All these models, got the right one
What you gon' do? Hide or run?
You ready?

Kids these days are far advanced from when we were their age.
Sex is EVERYWHERE and they discuss it often.
Kids are masturbating in class these days.
Can watch/access norp on their personal cellphones and laptops their parents give them.
Back in the day we were lucky to squint through scrambled screens of Cinemax and Playboy channel or find an old ragged and ripped/faded penthouse or hustler mag.

our parents would compare marvin gaye and smokey robinson to jodeci, r kelly and adina howard which were all really crass

and for druggy teenage love... Cant Feel My Face

Also you know ALL those songs were written by old(er) men right? So the perspective was still the same as the old heads droppin the same songs today.
12871220, music heads always find great music.

they can find it in any era they want.

i thought the songs you posted were just whatever as a kid.

yet i still found jams i liked.
both contemporary and old school joints.

i dunno what r&b heads that want current music want.
but if they are heads, they will find it.

because most music was always crap.

But don't snark me because you misinterpreted the intent of my post.

It was a simple question. What's the soundtrack for current teens in love?

You could name some songs, but you wanted to debate the premise of the question. And then you wanted to make an assessment of me. It's a tired response to posts and I'm bored with it.

I search R&B on Itunes and Google Play nearly every week, and a lot of the music seems to resist saying the words, "I love you", "I'm in with you", etc etc.

So I ask the question to see what is really being interpreted as a love song.

You gave your examples, you're done now. So feel free to go on with the rest of your day.
12871278, i have already. lol

i understood your post completely. and i DID provide 3 examples that answered the question. i just provided a 4th.

but i also decided to address what i saw as the root of the matter - grumpy old man syndrome.

>It was a simple question. What's the soundtrack for current

right. i know. and i provided 4 answers.

>You could name some songs, but you wanted to debate the
>premise of the question.

i did both.

And then you wanted to make an
>assessment of me. It's a tired response to posts and I'm

*shrugs* be tired, gramps. that's another part of being an old man. LOL

>I search R&B on Itunes and Google Play nearly every week, and
>a lot of the music seems to resist saying the words, "I love

cool.

right on.

for what? i don't have any kids. and my lil cousins don't need me for that. if anything i tend to hip them to what *i* listen to and sometimes they'll show me what they're on. and when they do it's rarely some corny love song. but why would they show me one of those? lol
