Ashanti Takes Over Role Of 'Gina' As The Martin Lawrence Show Sets To Return In The Fall Of 2015

Fox hasn't been the same in recent years, and poor ratings have them bringing back one of their classic television series.

The network has reached an agreement with Martin Lawrence to start filming the popular comedy series Martin once again.

For five seasons (1992-1997), the Martin show reigned supreme as the best black television comedy show, and is regarded by many as the funniest off all-time.

The entire cast is set to return with the exception of Tisha Campbell-Martin, who is set to be replaced by R&B singer/actress Ashanti.

It may be hard to picture her replacing the animated character of Gina Waters, but she recently spoke about playing the role.

“Like many people, I grew up watching Martin and it was probably my favorite TV show ever,” Ashanti says. “I know it will be difficult for many people to see me as Gina, but I hope I bring a new dynamic to the role."

Production has already began for the show, and a return to television is set for the fall of 2015.
