12860515, what are the #alllivesmatter and #whitelivesmatter campaigns doing Posted by bentagain, Wed Jul-22-15 01:07 PM
something that I think gets lost irt replies like that
is that police violence does happen to everybody
and if you really want to address it in the context of everybody else
it's not like you'd be pressed to find examples
i.e. white people do get murdered by the police too
all people do get murdered by the police too
again, blacklivesmatter is focusing on the disproportion
some of the things that bother me with people who subscribe to this mindset
deflection
I don't see how deflecting from a legit problem helps
and I haven't seen anybody disagree that it is a problem
opportunism
a sports journalist using the death of a black woman to interject himself into the conversation should be shunned by all
i.e. stay in your lane
violent crime in the black community and state violence against black and brown people are mere symptoms of the same cause
systemic racism
misinformation
the notion that black people can't focus on more than one cause at a time strikes me as racist in and of itself
but there are groups that are addressing the issue of violence in the black community
a recent example is the group of mothers in chicago that have taken to patrolling their own streets
i.e. just because you don't hear about it, or the media doesn't focus on it, doesn't mean it isn't happening
