12853153, So.. I got 10 copyright infringement emails today.
Posted by TR808, Tue Jul-14-15 12:41 PM
So I used a torrent site to get a discography of an artist and

about a month later I get 10 emails all at once. ....

i am not gonna lie I was shook like a priest in a strip club....

There is a number that I called and the dude was real cool about it he said I should delete the files. .....

The letters are from my internet provider and basically they said they could cancel my service if i dont play nice .....

So i think im gonna chill on Torrents for a while... anyone been thru this before?

12853157, just pay for spotify or apple music or some shit, bro

12853166, use encryption.
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Jul-14-15 12:45 PM
your client should have the option to encrypt torrent streams and to prevent unencrypted fallback in the event there are no seeders that allow encrypted connections.

Your ISP can't see what's in an encrypted session, all they know is that there's data running across it.
12853177, which would probably save you on some obscure music shit
Posted by Rjcc, Tue Jul-14-15 12:50 PM

but is that how they're catching most people these days?

I assumed it's the sameo ld, you have these firms basically acting as fake seeders on the torrents, they notify the label/studio, who calls your ISP

12853354, it can be done through Tor or a VPN so you're not tracked
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Jul-14-15 01:58 PM
if you're smart enough to know how to pipe all your traffic through tor you won't have a worry in the world. It'll be slow as shit though.

Doing it through a private VPN is easier.

you are keeping your files in the same upload folders. Service provider sniffers can only detect torrents going both ways, or idle in your designated 'download to' folders

If you move those files to a external hard drive as soon as you are done downloading, you should be in the clear.

You can add what you want to listen to to your device for offline listening when you're on wi-fi so it doesn't eat at your data. Plus you don't have an aux port in your car? All that searching, downloading, and burning seems like a lot of work when there's much easier, time-saving options.

DJ mixes ain't available on streaming services, quite a bit of my Techno, Ghettotech, House, and Electro music ain't available on streaming services, and a lot of older, out of print hip hop ain't available.

All that shit is cool for new music, but since I don't listen to much new music the shit ain't for me.

... plus... it STILL requires a phone, which I just don't approve of.

I have an aux port in the van, but not in the Benz.

I have one but other than using it to *call* people and as an impromptu camera/video recorder I don't use it for much else. Since I've finally repaired my Sansa C250 mp3 player, I have even less of a reason to use my phone for music.

It's pretty well known on here that I have disdain for using a phone for everything under the sun. This stems mostly from my experience in network security, but also from my time spent working for a contractor to a certain three letter agency.

It ain't that really, my Benz is an 05 and cars really weren't coming with an aux port standard back then (it does, however, have a CD/cassette deck in it). My van is older, but I have an aftermarket Sony CD player in it that has an aux port as well as a USB port on it (I use the cd player and usb port far more than the aux).

See this article for possible uses: http://www.howtogeek.com/221929/how-to-choose-the-best-vpn-service-for-your-needs/

For the record, I support artists but they make pennies from streaming so we're better off buying records.

aka charter, just a warning letter, it was a couple years ago. if it continued they'd have to cancel our service.

after that i stopped using tor rent sites. btw, i deleted the uploaded/seeded etc files from the folders that some of you are talking about. idk, they seem to be able to track ur activities beyond that.

i think streaming music is the best way to go. I buy songs on iTunes someitmes, if I really like something or feel like music shopping, but it can add up.

Tor is WAY too slow to be worth it. I think if any of u continue to do the tor rent thing, also avoid new music release days. i think one of the reasons we were found out, was that i was downloading on a tuesday. lol. (now they release new music on fridays, so that day should be off limits).
