Posted by mistermaxxx08, Wed Jul-08-15 12:51 AM
they are gonna be featured. now they were a 2nd tier female vocal group back in the 90's IMO, however they kept a cut here and there.

what was your take on them? you watching the show on them?

I will be watching. And I'm looking forward to finding out the real on why they broke up in the first place.
12848203, i consider jade as second tier and Xscape is way better
Posted by Big Kuntry, Wed Jul-08-15 09:20 AM
12848209, I agree with the other posters 2nd tier doesn't seem right
Posted by 13Rose, Wed Jul-08-15 09:22 AM
They had hits and visibility. They just weren't as easy on the eyes as we typically like.
12848591, they were some ugmos but they had a few cuts.
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jul-08-15 02:04 PM
12848361, fux w/ Xscape and I still have a low-key crush on Kandi.
Posted by PROMO, Wed Jul-08-15 11:05 AM
also, since they spawned Kandi and her success as a writer, i sort of give the whole group more credence.

12848439, as a fan of hers, what i enjoyed about their songs...
Posted by PROMO, Wed Jul-08-15 12:07 PM
is that even when they all harmonized together, Kandi's voice stood out CLEARLY even in the harmony.

which in my mind lends credence to her ending up as the "star" of the group, LOL.

an easy, obvious example of this is all of the harmonies on Who Can I Run To, which she didn't sing any "lead" parts on.
12848454, yep...not to mention her writing talents...she was clearly the star.
Posted by mikediggz, Wed Jul-08-15 12:13 PM
12848455, My crush on her was very hi-key. And she looks even better

Posted by Teknontheou, Wed Jul-08-15 12:17 PM
them as kind of a "kid" group, or at that he was older than their intended audience age range, so he doesn't have the affection that those of us who were teenagers at the time have for them.
12849472, I wasn't a teenager either...

Posted by Tiggerific, Wed Jul-08-15 08:43 PM
I'm mad that those Scott girls tried to throw Kandi under the bus. I see why she doesn't f with them anymore. So, she dated Jermaine for two seconds. So what? And, I think Tosha was trying to go solo and that is what truly broke up the group.
12849188, I was aware of the news that Kandi didnt show
Posted by cloak323, Thu Jul-09-15 08:14 AM
for the 20 yr reunion, but after learning she was officially contracted out of the group how could the other two plus Jermaine and his dad expect her to show. I don't blame her.
12849245, RE: I was aware of the news that Kandi didnt show
Posted by Tiggerific, Thu Jul-09-15 08:59 AM
Yeah. I don't know why they expected her to show up if she was contracted out of the group. That was just stupid on their part that they expected her to show up. Especially since they just stuck some random chick in her place when they made her sign over her rights.

But, I'm glad that her and Tiny are still friends after all that. And, I found T.I.'s commentary about how they need her quite funny.

12849316, #TeamKandi...eff outta here, Scott sisters.
Posted by PROMO, Thu Jul-09-15 09:51 AM
shit, Kandi ain't lie.

that's why i fuck w/ Kandi up and down. she's one of the realest people on TV and she ain't for the fuck shit and games.

i mean, it's not like they were the first group where one person was tagged as "THE VOICE" and that person was being pulled in a solo direction which basically dissolves the group (ahem, Destiny's Child). shit, the manager dude said "i'm here for LaTocha." that shit happens.
12849327, Wrt Destiny's Child, I always figured it was understood that
Posted by Teknontheou, Thu Jul-09-15 09:55 AM
the group was a vehicle for Beyonce's eventual solo career, from the earliest days. All those girls knew what the deal was with her, especially with Matthew as the manager.
12849362, perhaps, but you know there was salt even if that was understood...
Posted by PROMO, Thu Jul-09-15 10:14 AM
because knowing it, and seeing it in action, bring on new emotions.

i mean, isn't that why LeToya and LaTavia left..because Matt Knowles was grooming Bey and Kelly Rowland for solo stuff. even if it was known, they still felt some kinda way about it once it was actually happening.
12849375, 100% agreement.
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 10:21 AM
until Kandi spoke on Tamika's airing her out on Hot 97 i was kinda pissed that Kandi and Tiny didn't appear at that So So Def anniversary show. but after hearing that i totally understood. and Tamika's 'apology' was backhanded - too much 'We can ALL forgive each other for what we did wrong'. no, bitch. YOU ask forgiveness for what YOU did and that's it. THAT is an apology. fuck that shit. i know Kandi wasn't going for that weak sauce. if Tamika is for real she'll do what Mama Joyce advised - appear on Hot 97 and tell the ppl that shit she said was a lie. period.
12849399, probably the only time i ever agreed w/ Kandi's mom, LOL.

12849457, RE: Yep, I caught that too.
Posted by cloak323, Thu Jul-09-15 11:04 AM
She couldn't own it by herself, which negated any sincerity. I
know that these shows are edited, but they should have shown
LaTosha's response (if she did) to Kandi's claim about how
LaTosha dissed them when she informed them that she was going
solo.
12849458, even showed that Kandi, Tamika & Tiny continued to tour
Posted by Ray_Snill, Thu Jul-09-15 11:05 AM
and promote the album so how can they say with a straight face that Kandi broke up the group. then they all had the same story about how Tosha came and told them all she was going solo and they can each go about their own separate ventures.

12849377, i am Kandi's age - and i always put Xscape a step below
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 10:23 AM
groups like TLC and En Vogue. they were on that tier w/SWV, IMO - they sang about as well as the girls at my high school talent shows. which is cool for what it is.
12849382, Wait...if you make it just about singing, you can't have TLC above
Posted by Teknontheou, Thu Jul-09-15 10:25 AM
them.
12849404, right. i didn't make it just about singing.
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 10:38 AM
i wasn't a huge fan of any of those groups but i preferred TLC over Xscape b/c i liked TLC's overall image and their 'politics'. they were more interesting than Xscape.

as for singing - En Vogue sang circles around all of them.
12849408, Yeah, TLC clearly had the formula down, plus the connections
Posted by Teknontheou, Thu Jul-09-15 10:40 AM
to get the best songs and En Vogue had the vocal abilities, plus they had the slightly older crowd on lock.
12849421, and MTV loved them.
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 10:43 AM
they were throughly marketable.
12849410, Can someone catch me up on this thing w/ Kandi & the Scott Sisters?
Posted by Marbles, Thu Jul-09-15 10:40 AM

My girl tends to keep me up on all the celebrity gossip but I haven't heard anything about this. What happened?
12849460, well, you see...what had happened wuz
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 11:11 AM
Kandi and Latocha (the big one) had beef early on probably b/c they were the main lead singers in the group and Tocha was known as the one who could SANG while Kandi's voice was...unique. most producers the group worked with wanted to feature Tocha on songs more often than Kandi. it created tension. then Tocha's boyfriend wanted to manage her and she was down for that. the other members weren't cool w/Tocha having her own manager. so she proposed that he manage the group as a whole. they kinda gave that idea the side-eye but agreed as long as there was a co-manager. that b/s wasn't going to last and it didn't. meanwhile by the time the group made a 3rd album it was clear Tocha was being groomed for solo success. Kandi felt marginalized and wasn't cool w/that. finally, Tocha announced she was going solo and stopped appearing w/the group. that ended promotional efforts on the album. and the group stalled.

Kandi talked about it publicly in interviews when asked why the group broke up. Tamika (Tocha's sister) took exception and went on Hot 97 to air Kandi out. she claimed Kandi was fucking for solos - she and Jermaine Dupri (the group's primary producer and SoSoDef owner) had hooked up - and the group suffered as a result. Tamika claims that relationship broke up the group. Kandi was highly offended and swore she wouldn't work w/Tamika again - at least until she apologizes.
12849467, don't forget she said kandi slept with jermaine's dad too

12849495, RE: don't forget she said kandi slept with jermaine's dad too

that shit threw me when she said that

thats some hoe shit for real if true

and she was my crush out of the group so that was extra hard to believe
12849517, that's right! that's the part that made me wanna throw something
Posted by SoWhat, Thu Jul-09-15 11:57 AM
@ Tamika.
12849469, Damn, that's messy. *EDIT*
Posted by Marbles, Thu Jul-09-15 11:18 AM
At first, it sounds like the typical battles in groups regarding who's getting more shine, who's going solo, etc.

But that's dirty pool for Tamika to put your girl's personal business out there like that. I don't blame Kandi for being pissed.

Good looks on the summary.

EDIT - Yo, she said Kandi slept with JD's dad too?? This is all kinds of foul!
12849485, and to be fair, Kandi probably SHOULDN'T have been messing...
Posted by PROMO, Thu Jul-09-15 11:30 AM
with JD. that's just not smart...it's risky business.

THAT said though, it sure didn't seem to earn her any favors on the tracks. I mean, I always though the group could use MORE Kandi in the forefront (not that she didn't get her share, I just thought she was that much of a talent).

so yeah, those accusations by Tamika just seem unfounded...but they definitely weren't necessary especially when YOU yourself even admitted your sister wanted to go solo which broke up efforts for the album and eventually the group itself.
12849518, yeah that JD daddy part is the worst of it, IMO.

12849976, You know, I never got the 'Xscape is ugly' digs they received...
Posted by ramaj1, Thu Jul-09-15 04:58 PM
Aside from Tiny, the group wasn't ugly.

Kandi and the Scott sisters are attractive by any standards IMO.

Anyway, this episode was insightful even if it probably only revealed 60% of the 'whole story'. I'm glad Unsung is featuring more recent acts. Now, can we get that Tevin Campbell episode?!?!

As far as the breakup of the group, I do think Kandi sleeping with Jermaine (the boss) changed the dynamic dramatically yet I think LaTocha's desire for a solo career played a huge part also. So, both sides are to blame for the group's demise.

Does anyone else notice that girl groups usually defect after album #3?
