I think part of this is that in this era, the whole world tends to hear new "hit songs" the very first day they come out...so there's some that people love to death on that first day. Some of them sustain, some don't. But it's interesting when people don't hear the songs til months later. I remember hearing "Lifestyle" BET Weekend, only because a DJ from Miami played it, and NOBODY knew it yet. I looked it up, and saw that it was 3-4 weeks old...I was mad at myself for not knowing it.

Even with Fetty Wap "Trap Queen," DJ's on the East told me about it in November-December and I heard it and said "this ain't gonna be a hit" and now it's Top 3 out. So yea, it might be something I've heard and just have no idea that it's about to break.

I feel that because we're OKP, this is more about our own lenses, vs the overall charts and relating it to EVERYONE. And not just OKP, but the folks that we associate with. Using quantitative data makes it too boring anyway, it's more fun debating what song we saw get the best reaction vs just saying "well the charts and statistics indicate that...."

And it's not just about clubs at all, but clubs do give the best "in person" knowledge that affects most of us more than solely what charts show. Seeing "In da club" and "Get low" at prime...you FELT like "this shit is HUUUUUUUGE!!!!!" It's about the experience...seeing hundreds or even thousands of people react to a song really hits the hardest.

"My way" is huge. "Flex" is old but still goes super hard at the club and everything else I've been to. But Silento is owning so many different crowds...even 50+ folks are asking for it. And it was on like 9AM broadcasted shows with all the newscasters dancing to it.

I feel folks are caught up in the hype, but it's really no standout tracks at THAT level. "Real sisters" and "Trap niggas" get the most play after "Commas," but those will never touch "My way" "Flex" or even what "Same damn time" was three years ago.

Saturday, I played "Groupies" at the HBCU picnic...some folks bounced, but no major reaction. Literally a song later, someone came up to me and said "ay, you gotta play something from that DS2! Anything!!" and I said "I just played Groupies..." and he said "oh...well..........play some more!"

Then yesterday, I'm meeting with my boy going over songs he wants to hear at his Birthday party. He's like "you gotta play somethin from DS2!" and I was like which song, aside from Commas? And he's like "man the whole thing go!" and I'm like "well which songs????" He starts going through it on his computer...after 4-5 songs, he's like "I'm still tryna find the one that GO, I know it's one of em on here." I just shook my head.

lol... lol

radio came at it with some real hype (and I will say it was a bit bizarre to hear a song that sounds like that on Omaha radio and with "ass" not getting censored) but I'd already heard it and knew it was Future at his absolutely most mumbly mouthed and Drake just trying to fit in, but the girl driving hadn't heard it yet so I put on my Flex voice and shouted out "oh damn, Future and Drake, this is 'bout to kill 'em all summer!"


then we proceeded to spend the next three minutes playing the "what is Future saying" game.

for the record I like the song but it's a weird push for a summer jam. that's some drinking E&J alone and the sack's gone dry music.

it's a "get fucked by yourself and hate everything" album being promoted as a banger/party album, when it's not. It's got a few great cuts like I serve the base, slave master, kno the meaning, and fuck up some commas but it's nothing I would play at a party.

think 56 nights is the best thing he's done yet. it's the perfect length of future that i can handle in one sitting

He's too much of a Drake wannabe. Before settling on Drake's sound he was doing every other guys sound. Just seemed lost and was chasing to be famous. He has cool stuff here and there but meh. Theres a difference between "that Toronto sound" and making straight up Drake songs.

Lots of people are on or have been on Interscope that haven't worked out but yeah. I think he's at his peak. I dont see him being any bigger than he is. He'll def have a better chance tho being on a major so congrats to him cause I can see him doing Kid Ink type stuff so it should be good for the both of parties. But we all know Kid Ink ain't gonna be any bigger than he was/is. They both will make some quick money off it.

LOL let me clarify why i dont think its a good signing so I dont look like im just hating. Its super hard coming from this city and sounding exactly like Drake and Party and not getting any love from that crew, it doesnt help that most of this city looks at him like he's a cornball cause he kinda is. Theres been so many that tried it or are still trying it. He has his own audience now tho and they def come out to his shows and shit so thats good for him but I just dont see it being any bigger than that. I hope he proves me wrong.

Your Kid Ink assessment is probably sound. If he is more malleable than Party he will do better... He is signed to a kid who has had like 15 number 1 records in the last 10 yrs. So they definitely may go that route..

Pretty spot on with our choices with the addition of Taylor because it's MTV (oddly, I feel like that song as much as it plays just does not hit. I think the Kendrick verse hurt it) and that 5 Seconds of Summer song I never knew existed until just right this second.
