Seeing how some of this sausage is pressed, cooked, packaged, and sold can make you real cynical about how much some of these productions are primarily creative endeavors versus merely slot-fillers on production schedules.

Plus, narrative film and TV productions are heavily reliant upon audience tastes, and many of these productions are focus-tested and previewed to death, that often leads to execs demanding creatively bankrupt but financially sound decisions (cutting the ballad from Disney's "Pocahontas", trying somehow to make "Dreamgirls" less of a musical in post, cutting the entire final half hour out of "Little Shop of Horrors")

...nobody'd be complaining bout originality. They'd be saying, 'Can't wait!'

'Originality' only comes up when it's some shit we just don't like.

Zoe from Black-ish came onto my radar last year sometime. We watched this movie called Butter on Netflix out of love for Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell for Plastic Man 2019!!!) and they had this precocious tiny Black girl in it and we cried and cried. She was an orphan and a genius butter sculptor with the dream of making a butter likeness of her late mother for the Ohio State Fair.

So that made us watch Black-ish in the first place. It's super weird how some Black actors appear on the scene and murder a role and subsequently have difficulty finding anything comparable. So I'm very happy one of the Tyler Perry kids is on Disney (right? ANT Farm?) and these kids are prolly gonna surf this new wave Empire and Black-ish are pushin, but somebody needs to figure out what to do with Hush Puppy. Cause Annie was no bueno. And that kid is an incredible actress.

Granted, few people in the new "Annie" could genuinely sing, which is a bigger problem, but when the lead child actress cannot sing those notes in "Tomorrow", we have a problem.

That's like casting Ciara as Effie White in "Dreamgirls".
