12803204, Seems like everyone in NYC is a sneakerhead
Posted by Starks dunked on Bulls, Tue May-12-15 06:16 PM
Everybody in NYC rocks Jordans, Brons, or some other expensive/exclusive sneaker. I noticed people here are generally obsessed with sneakers and it reeks of immaturity. Like niggas still trying to live their high school years. I got caught up in that during my teens and I look back at it and see how silly it was. In NYC, a persons shirt and jeans could be subpar but their sneakers are expensive and always look brand new. And the little kids are carrying on this little tradition too. It's corny to me and I figured dudes would outgrow it by now.

>Where u been the last couple years??
>Fuck your fort!

Every nigga in NYC got spotless sneaks. They even sit down in a way so everyone can see their sneakers. They OD on it in NYC. It's not like that in Jersey, we're just more mature.
12803701, HA @ "we're more mature"

Niggas complain about dudes dropping $150 on some jorns but if a dude drops $800 on some dress shoes he's a boss? That dude isn't wasting his money?

Gotta find that midpoint. Can't be outright preening out here but you don't want to be looking bummy either.

Nothing better than a fresh pair of sneakers in the summer, I don't care what age you are.
12803326, I never cared about people spending $150. But I DJ'd this event Downtown

for Xotics, the Barber shop or whatever...and that super trendy haircut thing goes hand in hand with Sneaker heads. So they had a competition for best sneakers.....shit was the wildest shit I've seen in a while.

They had like five categories. Like best Jordan's, best Retros, best customs, etc etc. One dude, for example, had some Oregon Duck Nikes. My boy next to me said "yeah, them joints are expensive" so I assume $250-$300. Nah........$2,200!!!!!!!!!!! Someone else had some special Lebrons...the MC is like "y'all really don't recognize what y'all looking at here. These...man, th...wh........*stumbles over words*...man, these things are precious!!! You can't find these at ANY fuckin mall!!! They aren't going for anything under $1,500!!! They only made 20 of them!!!!"

People were really like cheering certain shoes, while seeing others on some "those aren't impressing me" or even "nah, I saw those last week, they ain't hard to find."

So yeah, the sneaker head culture isn't at all about the 150-300 shoes like I thought. That shit is SERIOUS.
12803690, The Flight Club / SneakerCon culture is just some clown ass shit

imho

Dudes staring at each other's feet. Bunch of hype beasts trying to beat the scene to the punch "WAIT'LL THEY GET A LOAD OF THESE SON". Bunch of rich white kids hobby-shopping with their CEO dad. Bunch of broke dudes trying to hustle off the thirst. Meanwhile the fucking sneakers are 90% UGLY.

They might have a few nice sneakers that you can't get at a motherfucking Footlocker but the cloud of headache and douchism surrounding them (not to mention the bread) are not even worth it

This is one part of culture I am glad we never had growing up in LA. The simpler, the more prevalent, the more street classic. Dudes are not trying to hit you over the head with their impeccable and futuristic and well-connected sneaker game.
12803710, I'd fallen off caring about sneakers, until I moved to new york.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed May-13-15 11:37 AM
I had like 10 pair of White Stan Smiths or Classic Pumas in a row from like 2000 to 2012 until I started to see cats were moving alway from the all white leather sneakers for the summer.

I try now harder to cop something cool but I don't go over board.

It might be a sign of chasing youth but I see a lot of white older guys in tech/media/advertising as well who rock fly sneakers with suits and jeans for work. Not just a black people thing.

12803982, in other words: adidas are cool for a casual stroll...

be on some damn sneaker line on a saturday am or pay some marked up price for maybe legit j's online.

I'm not a sneaker head at all so I remember I wanted some new kicks for vacation and i told my wife i was going to the mall to get some Jordan's. She was like, "oh, yeah"? lol

i was like yeah, why not??? She was like i don't think you can just go get some jordans from the mall but i'm not sure. I said they always got some jordans at the sneaker store.

So i stroll up in Modells and drop $150 on these

http://image.sneakerhead.com/is/image/sneakerhead/air-jordan-as-you-go-467889012-2?$480$

I go home and show wifey and she's like

Wife: Oh, what Jordan's are those?
Me: What you mean, what Jordans? MICHAEL Jordan's
Wife: I mean, what number Jordan's? Like Jordan IV, V etc...
Me: I don't know...*googles Jordan as you go* *reads comments* *puts Jordans back in box and returns to Modells*
12803814, team jordans lmao

12804374, it's a rent to own model for jordans.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed May-13-15 05:20 PM

Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed May-13-15 04:19 PM

12804359, but how do you stunt that day tho?
Posted by Cenario, Wed May-13-15 05:11 PM

12804134, everytime im in NYC dudes wearing fresh sneakers
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed May-13-15 03:23 PM
i dont get it. NYC is sooo dirty i left all my good sneakers at home when i went.
12804365, i know, right?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed May-13-15 05:16 PM
i used to see dudes rolling around in foams or XIs with the soles falling off and shit.

the last time i spent any length of time there i had nice kicks but just resigned myself to their impending death. bought one pair a month and just wore them the fuck out. conversely living in suburban l.a. and other places, i have shoes that are literally 18 or 19 years old, like i have had them that long and they are still impeccable.
12804376, its hilarious watching those sneaker nerds scuff their shoe
Posted by guru0509, Wed May-13-15 05:21 PM
or if someone steps on it accidentally...(conversely, scuffing the wrong persons shoe can get you lumped up lol)

2 weeks ago i saw some dork spill his venti latte all over his *whatever fancy sneaker* and i swear his lip quivered and eyes welled up...i had to stifle my laughter.
12804399, i get sad when i scuff mine but ive accepted
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed May-13-15 05:51 PM
that they gonna get a little messed up and im not in the resale game so no worries
12804397, yup i wore my 2013 hyperfuses the ENTIRE time
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed May-13-15 05:43 PM
those things are all rubbber and practically indestructable

12804276, lol that's funny considering
Posted by Mr. ManC, Wed May-13-15 04:23 PM
most dudes didn't get the money to actually afford Jordans until they "matured" and got a job of their own and could justify the expense.

meanwhile, "adult" me is supposed to not rock Jordans (which I don't) and pick up some brown leather square toed loafers for like $600 to be "grown up"? And walk to work made blocks and avenues every day? Was I supposed to outgrow my intelligence too?

nah bruh, and I aint even from NYC but to each their own.
