12802342, Doggystyle. It perfected the Chronic's sound
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 02:02 AM
Chronic had better content and lyrics, and East Coasters and older folks tend to enjoy the songs toward the end of Chronic that I saw as complete filler.
12802349, ^^ The West Coast Authority has spoken
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Tue May-12-15 02:43 AM
12802378, And we don't have to hear Dre rap.

12802377, For some reason, I have zero interest in hearing/listening to...
Posted by Creole, Tue May-12-15 07:31 AM
Doggystyle. It was great to me back in the day but I don't think I've actually listened to/heard it in close to 15 years. I play The Chronic constantly though.
12802408, Exact same for me...
Posted by ry 213, Tue May-12-15 08:20 AM
Chronic was the soundtrack of 1992 for me. So many memories around that cd. Doggystyle was dope but didn't affect me the same way as the chronic did.
12802489, thats exactly how I feel
Posted by DavidHasselhoff, Tue May-12-15 09:19 AM
12802415, The Chronic. Doggystyle is far too juvenile and misogynistic
Posted by John Forte, Tue May-12-15 08:25 AM
12802420, Sarcasm?
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Tue May-12-15 08:29 AM
12802437, NOPE
Posted by John Forte, Tue May-12-15 08:34 AM
12802440, yup
Posted by SoWhat, Tue May-12-15 08:35 AM
12802570, I agree. Bitches ain't shit and Deez Nuts made Doggystyle too much
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 10:46 AM
for my ears to handle. Chronic had more songs like Murder was the case, which were more focused and not as rooted in patriarchy.
12802576, RE: I agree. Bitches ain't shit and Deez Nuts made Doggystyle too much

Bitches Ain't Shit and Deez Nuts are on Chronic.

Murder Was the Case is on Doggystyle.

were you making a funny?
12802610, Definitely extreme sarcasm. A few people have said Doggystyle
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 11:09 AM
had too much misogyny, and I don't get it...Chronic was just as playful and had the same amount to me. It's really the fact that "Ain't no fun" was on there, which stands out so much more than Deez Nutz and Bitches ain't shit.
12802614, Bitches Ain't Shit isn't as bad as half of Doggystyle
Posted by John Forte, Tue May-12-15 11:11 AM
The first verse was about Easy E. The second verse was on some hurt shit. The misogyny on Doggystyle felt more visceral and hateful
12802623, Chronic had way more jail type of talk than Doggystyle though
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 11:16 AM
Dre Day as well, all the "this ain't gay cause it's jail talk" type shit makes it just as juvenile to me, or at least very close.

Chronic may have a bit more balance with "Let me ride" and especially "Little Ghetto Boy" but I still don't think it's really a huge difference. People act like Chronic was more like Low End Theory, while Doggystyle was a Luke record.
12802633, who are these 'people'?
Posted by SoWhat, Tue May-12-15 11:25 AM
12802657, Hell, on here alone. Some in this post
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 11:40 AM
But on previous Doggystyle vs Chronic posts, I've seen the same sentiment
12802855, And what's funny is that MOST women sing the hell out of those songs
Posted by StephBMore, Tue May-12-15 01:16 PM
women love "Ain't no fun." It's a few *feminist* here and there who dont' like the song but don't like the album in general but overall, if you ask women their fav song on that album and that one is one of the top songs.
12802868, Yup. I think we all set misogyny aside when it comes on
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 01:19 PM
12802881, I have a pretty high tolerance, but I can't with that song
Posted by John Forte, Tue May-12-15 01:29 PM
It's just too vile and hateful for me to enjoy
12802891, Man. I mean, I am in and from L.A, which makes a huge difference
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue May-12-15 01:39 PM
but even the most Christian of Christians, most educated, most positive folks, all sing and rap Nate and Kurupt's verses in harmony whenever it comes on at a party. It may be the only "vile, hateful" song in history that gets an overall pass.
12803471, I never saw it as vile and hateful and really,
Posted by StephBMore, Wed May-13-15 08:52 AM
the only people I hear speak of it that negatively are men (Surprisingly). even the few women I do hear complain are like "it's just trifling." but vile and hateful? those are some harsh words? misogynistic? Probably but most women I know who like that song are "i ain't a hoe or bitch, so they not talking about me."

idk, but when Kurupt comes on, everyone gets live.
12803579, And it actually has some sad undertones to it
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed May-13-15 10:14 AM
Hearing Nate, in a Church-like voice, sing "cause I've never met a girl, that I love in the whole wide world" makes me :(
12803267, Right. That's why I asked if he was being sarcastic.
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Tue May-12-15 09:12 PM
I got no further comments for someone who's serious about that assessment.
12802637, I agree on the misogynistic part but both albums are juvenile as hell
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Tue May-12-15 11:26 AM
12802764, To the point I don't listen to either of them any more
Posted by Anonymous, Tue May-12-15 12:30 PM
I loved those albums when I was 12-13 years old but they just did t age well at all.

And I know we all listen to suspect shit when it comes to hip-hop but something about those albums is like telling fart jokes as a grown ass man lol.

12802936, Yup

12802488, the chronic easily
Posted by DavidHasselhoff, Tue May-12-15 09:19 AM
12802495, Doggystyle. easily.
Posted by MrThomas43423, Tue May-12-15 09:30 AM
that was one of the first rap tapes i actually owned. dubbed of course, but it was all mine. that and 2 Live Crew - Back at Your Ass For The 9-4.

and everyone calling it juvenile...Lodi Dodi, Who Am I?, Doggy Dogg World, those all hold up pretty well to me.
---------------------------------------
it's true what they say...people are strange, when you're strangers.

not compassionate....only polite.

I am not like you at all and i cannot pretend.
12802504, I prefer Snoop's hunger on The Chronic
Posted by dafriquan, Tue May-12-15 09:40 AM
In contrast to the laidback pimp that emerged on Doggystyle.
Production was cleaner on Doggystyle but again the roughness of the drum loops on Chronic style has aged better.

Both albums definitely shaped my "rap ear".
But Chronic had no predecessor.
12802510, It's Doggystyle for me
Posted by 13Rose, Tue May-12-15 09:48 AM
Kurupt put a hurting on that damn album. Also I think Gin N Juice is better than every song on the Chronic but that's just me. It's pretty much a perfect song. The hard songs on Doggystyle go way harder than the Chronic joints. Pump Pump and For All My... just go so damn hard man. SMH
12802524, Doggystyle, I get bored with The Chronic after the first 5 or 6 tracks.
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Tue May-12-15 10:04 AM
12802535, I gotta blue....Senior in HS...OMG...that was some good times

12802662, chronic because everything was on point
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue May-12-15 11:41 AM
though Snoop was the center piece of it all and i can't ever recall a newbie MC coming out of the gate not only bringing the hype but also surpassing it.

Snoop was that dude from 92-94 and Dr Dre had the keys for the ears.
12802733, Chronic is better
Posted by TheStandard, Tue May-12-15 12:17 PM
12802908, Doggystyle no question
Posted by daryloneal, Tue May-12-15 01:49 PM
Tha Shiznit.
12803253, I've always been east coast biased. But Doggystyle was that hot shit
Posted by spenzalii, Tue May-12-15 08:23 PM
I didn't get The Chronic when it first came out (but I did bang the hell out of Lyrical Gangbang and still do) but copped Doggystyle the first day out and kept it in rotation. The middle of side 2 started to drag to my east coast ears, but G'z Up, Hoe's Down is still one of the greatest songs I ever heard (and was pissed when I had to replace my copy and that song was missing)

As of late I've come around on The Chronic and do think it's an incredible album, but still will take Calvin over Andre
12803260, doggystyle
Posted by helenahandbasket, Tue May-12-15 08:51 PM
Gz up, Hoez down was the standout
12803287, whichever sanjay and craig agree is better

Have a listen
Who said this doesn't age well or is "juvenile"?
Calvin was 19 (a juvenile gangbanger) when he made this album
I hope we weren't expecting Thoreau or Dickinson
12803440, Youthful doesn't have to mean juvenile
Posted by John Forte, Wed May-13-15 08:20 AM
He was 21-22 when Doggystyle was recorded. Compare that to Nas making Illmatic at 19-20, De La being 17-20 on Three Feet High, Kast bring 18-19 on Southernplayalistic, and on and on and on.
12803468, RE: Youthful doesn't have to mean juvenile
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Wed May-13-15 08:51 AM
Kast are my dudes for life but let's keep it real, they had Hootie Hoo on their debut and Snoop lived a different lifestyle than De La and Nas. Your environment plays a role in your life until you decide to mature and move on. It took a while for Snoop. We gotta remember that Snoop was bred directly from NWA. The kings of over the top misogyny.
12803647, Exactly. It was a completely different culture for sure
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed May-13-15 11:07 AM
Shit, coastal culture alone made artists different. That's why we had a Too Short and Snoop, along with Luke and them all being from Miami.
12803432, I got the Doggystyle album cover as a phone case.
Posted by Brew, Wed May-13-15 08:15 AM
But I can't choose.
12803506, chronic easy ds was incredible but it was rushed
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Wed May-13-15 09:23 AM
Like 80% of the songs snoop
Was off the dome u can tell

Chronic is like top 3 hip hop albums ever
12803588, So I'm the only person disappointed in Doggystyle, huh?
Posted by DVS, Wed May-13-15 10:21 AM
That album is nowhere near The Chronic IMHO.

D
12803651, Only people in 1993 said that
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed May-13-15 11:08 AM
12803667, you and maybe the 16 other ppl who chose Chronic over DS in the poll.
Posted by SoWhat, Wed May-13-15 11:16 AM
and maybe the several ppl who indicated in the post that they prefer The Chronic.

i too was disappointed by Doggystyle. it's good but i much prefer The Chronic. i can't even remember the last time i heard DS in full.
12803672, What disappointed you about Doggystyle?
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Wed May-13-15 11:19 AM
I'll admit that the first single didn't have me thrilled. It's actually my least favorite song on the album.
12803681, Doggystyle all day. Chron only had a couple of songs that i really like
Posted by mikediggz, Wed May-13-15 11:21 AM
while doggy had many songs that i really like

edit: combine the ones from chron with doggy and take off a few from DS that i dont listen to and youve got westcoast perfection
