12777882, be careful, cats are known to smother and kill babies
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-10-15 11:16 AM
this is what 2 old ass ladies at my job said to me when I told them I had a cat.

I couldn't do anything but LOL at them. It's some old wives tale "Cat's Eye" movie bullshit but a lot of older people believe it.

My wife was heated on some "that ole step-n-fetch it eyez-uh-bees-uh woman said that shit didn't she?"

Whats crazy is dogs maul babies/kids all damn day but people are still clinging to this old wives tale.

so.. what other old ass tales have you heard that make you shake your head?

12777885, ever heard the one about cats sucking the souls out of babies?
Posted by BigJazz, Fri Apr-10-15 11:17 AM
or is the soul stealing thing part of your thing?

12777893, we have two cats and just had a baby and i heard it all too
Posted by Government Name, Fri Apr-10-15 11:28 AM
but 6 months in and these cats have been incredible (other than meowing to wake him up when they want to play with him). never once have they gotten in his crib, gotten aggressive with him (while he tackles them and grabs their tail etc). obviously we keep a close eye on them, but i dunno where this cats will kill your baby while dogs are perfectly harmless narrative came from.
12777935, since having cats i've thought about this
Posted by latenitemix, Fri Apr-10-15 11:50 AM
only bc they like to sit on my chest when it's bed time or wake up time and i thought maybe a cat did that to someone's baby and it died and that's where that came from?

it's plausible but totally preventable
12778092, same here.

12777989, I told my people back home we had a cat and the party stopped
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-10-15 12:31 PM
my fam was looking at me like I said we had a midget trapped in a cage.

My cousin came to visit and I forgot to tell her about our cat. She went in the bathroom and came out and screamed "WTF, grabbed her coat and bounced"

but if I had 3 pit bulls with spiked chain collars she woulda been like "awwwe, look at the wittle puppies"

My Great Nan who was born in Costa Rica once told me an incident about a cat hanging off someone's ceiling ( somewhat ninja like I presume), and then it pounced off it and clawed out the eyes of some young woman..

Even as a young kid I couldn't take that story serious.
12777958, such an odd thing to say

12777960, 4 kids later with cats present, I call bullshit
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Fri Apr-10-15 12:12 PM
Everyone on the native side of my family has cats and through numerous kids being born and raised in their presence I can safely say that cats ain't a problem.

Posted by ceeq9, Fri Apr-10-15 06:12 PM
did when we had him. Breath hard continuously with an open mouth, like you're tired and out of breath; do this in a house or closed in space. See what your cat do?! our cat started coming (as in crouching forward with slow to steady steps) at my mouth, focused on nothing but my breathing, it seemed. with my son watching, we didn't know what the hell was going on. i hurried up and stopped the breathing. tried it another time, same reaction by the cat. so i can see the tale having a tangential relevance, hmmm..
12778352, yeah that superstition got in me subliminally

12778535, Nobody had a cat guard them at night?
Posted by Sepia., Sat Apr-11-15 11:54 AM
Before I got my dog, my cat would sleep in my room at night. He'd get up by
my head and half-sleep in the sphinx position until I settled down.

I tested it one night and pretend to be asleep to see what he'd do.
After a couple of minutes, he'd go down to the end of the bed and sleep.

12778560, I have two cats that will do this
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Sat Apr-11-15 01:01 PM
Momma cat: If I lay down on the couch 'cause I'm feeling "off" or something or if I'm genuinely sick, she'll come over to me unprompted and lay next to me like she's guarding me.

Asshole cat: She will do the same except she'll lick my leg if I'm feeling wrong and when I fall asleep she'll bat at anyone that come near me (especially other cats and the dog).
12778562, Mine does the same.
Posted by SoWhat, Sat Apr-11-15 01:04 PM
On a couch or bed - he lays by my head until I fall asleep then he goes to sleep at my feet.
