12773865, i'm trying a new hair salon today
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 11:47 AM
i can't post about it on facebook because i'm friends with my old stylist who is my cousin. i mean i *could* post it but i don't wanna be premature in case things don't work out at this new spot. but yeah last time i went to her i was not happy at all with the cut. it was cute straight but looked crazy when i went back to curly.

anyway i'm nervous. it's a new salon but they are devacurl trained. i went to their open house a couple of weeks ago and chatted with the owner and the stylist she recommended. they both made me feel comfortable and they stylist knew what she was talking about so i'm excited.

i really hope it goes well bc this salon is only 10 minutes from my house which is much better than 45min to my cousin's spot and entirely better than going all the way to the devachan salon in the city.

i just want a really good cut close to home. i'll still go to my old stylist for color though.

what are y'all doing with your hair?
12773872, same old.

i cut it. i would call it more of a significant trim. i did it myself and cut a couple inches

sort of wanting to color it but don't want to spend the $
12773880, i see all these youtube chicks coloring their own hair
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 11:54 AM
i'm amazed
bc i feel like box color isn't strong enough
and trying to use something stronger i'd overprocess and my hair would fall out

i was trying to psych myself up to go to a barber for a cut but i didn't have any recommendations and i'm too hype about walking into a barbershop with a bunch of dudes

12774051, come to SD and get it colored! lol

12773918, I see a devachan stylist for my cuts over the summer
Posted by Latina212, Tue Apr-07-15 12:04 PM
When I wear it curly
I know she is going to cut a significant amount of length
That is left over from my relaxer days
But it's for the best :( although I will miss the length when straight

I hope you have a good experience!
Straight cuts are so tricky with curly hair
12773921, thank you

i've had two great haircuts since i went natural - one at the devachan salon and the other by sha's friend deana. i actually like deana's cut more than the devacut. i wish she wasn't all the way in baltimore :D

12773951, Let me know how it goes, the Mrs might be looking for a new place

The girl that did her hair at Culture ended up leaving not too long ago.

but overall i'm pleased with it.
i no longer straighten it.
12774025, what have you tried so far?
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 12:53 PM
i use the olive oil ecostyler gel but i know that doesn't work for everyone
12774034, eco styler is too heavy for my hair :(
Posted by Sha, Tue Apr-07-15 12:57 PM
I was so sad. I gave away 2 tubs because I found them on sale.
12774044, aww man i would've gladly taken them :D
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 01:00 PM
my hair is really thick so maybe that's why it works for me
12774246, Deana gladly took them joints off my hands
Posted by Sha, Tue Apr-07-15 02:51 PM
LOL. She was like thanks!
12774032, I've cut down on a lot of products by using my go to

I use Oyinhandmade's Honey Dew followed by their Shine and Define.
When my hair feels a little dry and I don't want to wet all the way through again I use their Juices & Berries and a little of their Burnt Sugar Pomade.
12774261, i don't have enuff left of either :-(

12774430, they sell oyin at target
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 04:22 PM
i realize where you live but you should check there anyway.
12774083, I use a mixture of
Posted by Kei2Lyfe, Tue Apr-07-15 01:19 PM
Komaza Care's Califia styling pudding
And Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Oil Heavy Cream

After a detangle, wash and seal. I apply it in sections.

Lasts up to 2 weeks, but I usually just go a week. No flaking, dries quickly, easy to refresh.

i haven't heard of any of those, kei!!! hahaha
12774789, They're both really good
Posted by Kei2Lyfe, Tue Apr-07-15 10:11 PM
Pricey on the front end, but stretch a long way. I order online. There are a few shops in the area, but it's a lot of running around.
12774097, Getting color on Thursday
Posted by Kei2Lyfe, Tue Apr-07-15 01:27 PM
Just cinnamon highlights in my black hair. A little change. I went back to black last year after wearing a two-tone color job for 3 years.

I've been off heat since January and I'm trying to stay away from it until October. I've been doing a weekly or semi weekly wash n go, pineappling and refreshing in between. My hair feels great. But it's boring, so... color
12774112, yeah color is gonna be next for me too
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 01:39 PM
after this cut tonight all my old color will be just about gone

i dunno what to get though
i always do some shade of red but i want something different
12774788, I'm going back and forth
Posted by Kei2Lyfe, Tue Apr-07-15 10:09 PM
My dude wants me to do something more dramatic. And I want to oblige
him. But I'm like, he ain't the one having to take care of it though.
And I have a LOT of hair right now.
12774270, i'm teal at the moment...
Posted by morpheme, Tue Apr-07-15 03:01 PM
but i wouldn't mind being a sunburst orange
but there's no easy transition from this to that.

what does pineappling do?
12774785, All it is putting your hair in a high puff at night
Posted by Kei2Lyfe, Tue Apr-07-15 10:05 PM
So your curls don't get smushed and outta shape.

You know natural hair code words lol.

Teal probably looks great on you btw
12774099, You brave as hell to even consider
Posted by Niq96st, Tue Apr-07-15 01:31 PM
mentioning you're seeing a new stylist on Facebook.

I'm way too much of a punk to.

12774117, if it comes out cute she's gonna see the picture
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 01:41 PM
i'm just gonna say i found something close to home
plus her salon doesn't do devacuts (they should)
they are excellent at pressing natural hair, styling, and color
but cutting natural hair in its natural state? nah
12774180, I feel you. Do what you gotta do.
Posted by Niq96st, Tue Apr-07-15 02:15 PM

12774440, so far so good
Posted by latenitemix, Tue Apr-07-15 04:24 PM
i like the cut. i'm under the dryer now so i don't know what the styling looks like yet. but that's not a big deal bc i can style myself.
