12773339, Can we subtract the Roger Moore films?
Posted by bigkarma, Mon Apr-06-15 04:59 PM
The Connery Bonds are of course the gold standard, followed by Craig. I like but don't love the Brosnan Bonds. I'll watch the Dalton and Lazenby Bonds if they happen to be on.

Every Roger Moore Bond except for Live and Let Die is garbage.
12774078, The Roger Moore films are underrated
Posted by John Forte, Tue Apr-07-15 01:17 PM
He was the funniest Bond.
12774103, That's the problem
Posted by bigkarma, Tue Apr-07-15 01:34 PM
>He was the funniest Bond.

He was too funny. He made the Bond movies tongue in cheek, and campy. That isn't what Bond is supposed to be. I read the Ian Fleming books as a kid and there wasn't any humor in them. Sean Connery injected a little humor and personality into the Bond character and that was cool, but Roger Moore was doing too much.

The Roger Moore films were too much like parodies of a spy film, like Flint, Matt Helm or Get Smart.

12773154, swap LOTR with pirates of the Caribbean
Posted by Riot, Mon Apr-06-15 02:17 PM
In order

Star wars
Indy
MCU
Pirates
Terminator
fast furious /Hunger games
transformers

Big drop, then

lotr/ Hobbits/Harry potter
12773159, Marvel Cinematic Universe
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Mon Apr-06-15 02:19 PM
From Iron Man forward, every Marvel movie is a part of the next, including Guardians of the Galaxy.

By far the best out there.

12773218, after seeing 7 on friday night, i gotta go F&F
Posted by Government Name, Mon Apr-06-15 03:11 PM
12773240, I don't really see this as an apples to apples thread
Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Apr-06-15 03:26 PM
LOTR and Star Wars fits the same general bill to me. The Matrix, Harry Potter, Terminator, shit like that.

F&F and Indy are very different animals to me.

I view competition for F&F as other "straight" action movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. F&F is essentially b the Star Wars of it's kind.

Indy is straight adventure. Goonies, Jurassic Park, shit like that.

I also view comic book movies in their own category.
12773285, except that each movie is a true sequel, except Tokyo Drift
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Mon Apr-06-15 04:01 PM
'cause that one happened in the "future" with respect to Fast & Furious through Furious 7.

Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Apr-06-15 04:08 PM
It has absolutely zero to do with my post.
12773292, you're saying that F&F is different from Star Wars
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Mon Apr-06-15 04:11 PM
with respect to being action/adventure franchises, F&F is just like Star Wars.

12774046, I don't see how you can't figure this out...
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Apr-07-15 01:02 PM
F&F is a huge, long story just like Star Wars, Matrix, etc...
12774320, come on fam. that's your criteria

.
12774394, You're either incredibly high or incredibly stupid

>F&F is a huge, long story just like Star Wars, Matrix,
>etc...
12774296, it absolutely is not
Posted by astralblak, Tue Apr-07-15 03:09 PM
that makes no sense

one is a space opera sci-fi

the other is "realist" action adventure
12774326, SW is actually swords & scorcery fantasy, but I agree with you
Posted by Mgmt, Tue Apr-07-15 03:27 PM

12774401, strip away the sci-fi and alladat
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Apr-07-15 04:13 PM
SW is an action adventure story, F&F is also an action/adventure story. I agree that they're different genre's, however at their most basic they're still multi-movie stories.

(by extension, Better Luck Tomorrow can also be included in this since there's plenty of references to Han's life prior to F&F that relate back to Better Luck Tomorrow).

12774622, Right, and pizza and skittles are the same because they're both edible.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Apr-07-15 06:01 PM
Cars and skateboards are also the same because they both have four wheels. I think I'll use eucalyptus leaves in my salad tonight because lettuce leaves and eucalyptus leaves are both leaves.

I'm certainly amused, I'll give you that much.
12774249, Yeah these choices are all over the place
Posted by Grand_Royal, Tue Apr-07-15 02:52 PM
Some of these movies have similar elements but they are definitely different genres.
12773264, Bourne or Mission Impossible
Posted by bigkarma, Mon Apr-06-15 03:41 PM
I would vote Star Wars if it weren't for Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

The Indians Jones movies were some of my favorites, but Crystal Skull is literally unwatchable.

Fast And Furious didn't really get good to me until #4.

The Bourne movies (even the Jeremy Renner one) are all thoroughly watchable. Same with the MI series.

12773466, El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Posted by Doronmonkflake, Mon Apr-06-15 08:37 PM
from humble quirky beginnings, the series blew up in scale but managed to keep that kid-in-a-toy-store level of inventive set pieces and weirdness. I honestly find it the best work of Rodriguez and Tarantino together. Unless you count Sin City 1.
12774565, ^^^ I can get behind this.
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Apr-07-15 05:14 PM
I bought El Mariachi on VHS back in the 90's. It's one of my favorite films of all time. Desperado and Once Upon A Time... are also awesome in their own right (Salma Hayek nude???) and the three together make for good watching in my book.

12774791, There was so much to like in that series.
Posted by Doronmonkflake, Tue Apr-07-15 10:14 PM
And it came out at the perfect time for me. I was in middle school when Desperado came out. My dad rented it and I found the VHS. (datin myself) it blew my entire mind. I saw Mariachi and OATIM in college and have wished somehow Rodriguez would get back to that cinematic level.

I can't say he ever really reached it again, but it's enough to give me hope whenever I see he has a new project.
12774352, how is raiders not getting like 501llmillion votes...
Posted by esb225, Tue Apr-07-15 03:44 PM

12774397, There are two GREAT Raiders films ad two SHITTY films

12774652, Avengers isn't a franchise
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Tue Apr-07-15 06:27 PM
only one movie has come out so far, and while I'll be there opening night (already got tickets) it doesn't qualify for the poll.
If this second one is anywhere near the first, we're in for something.
12774653, fine.
Posted by Deadzombie, Tue Apr-07-15 06:29 PM
12774853, the MCU, then.
Posted by shockzilla, Wed Apr-08-15 01:21 AM
and since it's all one world and the movies are connected with an overarching story, i think it counts.
12774802, Aliens
Posted by denny, Tue Apr-07-15 10:28 PM
I'm not a huge fan of this genre....but Aliens by a landslide for me. All three movies are completely different from each other. And they're all fantastic.
12774844, Die Hard
Posted by Coprolalia, Wed Apr-08-15 12:25 AM
12774854, two good movies out of five?
Posted by shockzilla, Wed Apr-08-15 01:22 AM
the first one is one of the best ever, sure, buuut..
