that there is no need to be clever in lyrics anymore. Years ago you had to use metaphors and be much more clever to get across thoughts in music. The standards of what was allowed on the radio and music generally forced you to be creative. Now, you can pretty much say almost anything on the radio, so there is no real incentive to be clever.
