The oldest Motown record the black oldie station would play (this is before the bar for "old school" was pushed further towards 80s/90s music) is "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 (which is from 1969, not 1970, but still).
And to be clear, "classic Motown music" is officially the material released before Motown moved all of their operations to Los Angeles in June 1972.
White British people are arguably bigger fans of classic Motown music than American Black people of the same age, and while I "get" it, I don't "GET" it. It's our music.
