12771263, Dumb things you used to believe as a teen/early adult
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 09:02 AM
I know we've had posts about all the naive, immature, "cute" things we used to believe as children. How about the things we believed later on, when our minds we're halfway developed?

For me...things like....
-I thought going to college meant you graduated and walked right into a job. And for my major (Computer Science), I thought it meant I would get a 90K job straight out of undergrad.

-I thought celebs or even semi-celebs could get ANY girl they wanted

-I thought I would never ever have gay friends. In HS, I remember telling someone, "what's the point of having a gay guy as a friend? They don't like Rap, Sports, or girls. What would we have in common?"

-I used to think that a good amount of women and even some guys would save themselves for marriage. Like, I would think that less than 1% actually do it now...but I thought the number was more like 10-15%.

-Until I visited message boards at 16-17, I thought White people who loved Rap loved Black people, and had no chance at being conservative. Rap music .com completely proved that wrong for me.

-After 2001 and especially 2002, I thought the Lakers would win at LEAST 5-6 more straight championships.
12771276, I thought girls peed out of their vaginas.

-The Suns would win the championship.

-Being "good" and following all the rules would ensure success.

-If your personality is enough, looks don't matter.

12771302, Thought that gas consumption...
Posted by Brew, Fri Apr-03-15 09:34 AM
was based on the amount of time spent in the car and not the distance driven. This was for like a few months after I got my license. For some reason the whole idea that distance is what matters was mind boggling to me. I assumed if I spent 20 minutes in the car, no matter how far I got in that 20 minutes, my gas level shouldn't be any/much lower.

My pops was like ..... the fuck is the matter with you.

(Edit: I understand that there are other variables involved in gas mileage and shit ... just speaking generally here about my initial assumptions on the matter)
12771304, wearing a suit was unnecessary and for old people

- That college would be like a Different World, Class Act, TLC (Baby Baby Videos) etc...

- In err religion.. Ghosts.. (Humanoid) Aliens... I still look for proof.. but I don't NEED it for my moral compass or life fulfillment

- That I was smarter than I was (Ivy League engineering will humble your ass quick fast)

- That the East Coast was the only region that needed to exist in rap

- That I would never NOT wear a condom.. lol

- That I didn't know anyone gay.. (them college reveals of high school friends is certainly the path to enlightenment)
12771371, I can't tell if it's actually more gay kids than it was when we grew up
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 10:27 AM
or if they just weren't as comfortable to come out back then.

Like Middle and HS....I really can't recall any gay guys in the entire school that were openly gay, although 5-6 have come out since then. Some were expected, some were shockers.
12771403, RE: I can't tell if it's actually more gay kids than it was when we grew up
Posted by double 0, Fri Apr-03-15 10:37 AM
Yea think it's just comfort with coming out....

imo alotta shit was closeted back then.. even musical likes...

cats couldn't be a "Rap head" and openly like say nirvana or fiona apple etc.. now being eclectic is typical..
12771441, Yea for sure. In 8th grade, we trolled and said we liked Hansen
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 10:49 AM
just because NOBODY else would say some shit like that if their favorite group was Westside Connection or Bone.

12771358, I thought video girls and Jet Beauty of the week types were !!!!!
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 10:25 AM
like, that they were almost impossible to find on the street, and that they were a whole nother level of good looking.

When girls from my HS and then college started appearing in videos, it was usually the finest ones, but I realized that they put on the perfect makeup, outfits, and hair on them to make them look like they did in videos. I almost felt like they couldn't exist in real life.
12771377, I used to think God somehow made it "fair" for folks in the end
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 10:29 AM
How can I say it...like if there was a kid who was 16, 6'4, great at ball, had a great family background, and a great personality...I figured that the 5'1, fat kid who got bullied and got no play would eventually end up having just as good of a life somehow. And in some cases, this happened, but when I hit my late 20's, I felt bad seeing people who had it rough in HS still have it rough.
12771389, That if it came down to it, Asians and Latinos would side with blacks

Posted by lfresh, Fri Apr-03-15 11:15 AM
so when i was taken out of my typing class in HS i was like
cool i don't want to be a secretary

my dad was like you will need that class
i was like dad i'm going to college
i will have a secretary who will need to know how to type
and he will be a man

her: pffft, I'm not talking about powder, that's nothing, I MEAN CRACK!!!

I gave a her the 0_0
12771645, That when I started "Paying some bills around here" I'd have some say lol
Posted by ThisIs_ATruthThang, Fri Apr-03-15 12:34 PM
Man when you're a kid, everything you asked for was answered with or ended in "Do you pay bills?", "When you pay some bills around here you can _______x!!"

I started working at 14yrs old and paying "rent" to live at home. I never had a say in anything or got what I wanted.
12771668, I used to think every single woman wanted a relationship
Posted by atruhead, Fri Apr-03-15 12:51 PM
I was naive to how regular casual sex is

also I thought that everyone who you would get "serious" with was ready to settle down without bringing anything crazy to the table
12771695, I actually felt more like "EVERY girl who'll have sex with you
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Apr-03-15 01:11 PM
would be with you...whether she really wants it and begs for it, or whether she's casual and not trippin either way."

I was LOST when a girl would have sex with me, but then be like "wait, you thought I wanted to be serious with you?" and STILL want to have sex.
