12770359, what does: '... but this is OKP' mean? Posted by Deadzombie, Thu Apr-02-15 10:41 AM
does that imply that everyone who posts here is generally 'out of touch'.
or is the statement synonymous with 'but this is the internet, so ...'
i, for one, am tired of the bad-rap that OKP users are receiving.
apparently, readers think that you are all mal-adjusted, nerdy, fat, smelly, unattractive, agenda-filled, unwavering fools who can't be convinced of anything outside of your very narrow perspective.
is that an accurate assessment of this community? is that why all the 'greats' leave?
or do people just like to shit on this discussion board because it makes them seem cool and 'in touch' with them streets?

12770365, people here cosign weird shit. sometimes because they truly believe it Posted by BigJazz, Thu Apr-02-15 10:45 AM
and sometimes just to be contrary or to get a rise out of people.
it happens here. it happens on the internet. and it may happen IRL if you run in weirdo type circles.

12770435, why not ask the man who said it directly Posted by ambient1, Thu Apr-02-15 11:40 AM
That's OKP shit
What does the 'streets' or being cool gotta do wwithshit
if a nigga cool he cool regardless of a website ...if a nigga insecure/weird/different/alternative regardless of a website...
The fact that I typed all this out makes this reply OKP shit
Cuz irl ....it wouldn't be carried like this
|
12770457, i wanted a response from both of you. Posted by Deadzombie, Thu Apr-02-15 11:54 AM
and the placement of the specific reply, and the 'yall' was all-encompassing.
that's message board shit.
the exhibit A shit flew over my head.
i wasn't sure if: me making this post was OKP shit, was the tone of the post OKP shit?
I aint get it. and honestly - i feel like you don't do too much typing, so I don't expect a whole lot out of you if i were to reply, but what do you meeeeean by thaaaat.
but i was banking on the fact that both (she's likely to type a bit more) of yall could come together and form a solid response.
>The fact that I typed all this out makes this reply OKP shit >Cuz irl ....it wouldn't be carried like this
so i want to challenge this. the fact that you explained yourself makes this OKP shit?
how would it be carried in real life?
let me try first:
i ask a question to the room. a nigga responds by just pointing and saying 'exhibit A' i ignore the nigga at first, cause he aint really one to explain himself to much. then, someone else comes along and says - YEAH!, what he said' i address you two as a group now, cause it's harder to ignore two noisy people. you look at me and say - 'say - nigga, just ask me!' and then look I at you and say 'oh, quiet nigga ready to talk now' then i say - 'ok quiet nigga - talk...'
how off is that scenario?
|
12770473, ... i get it now. Posted by Deadzombie, Thu Apr-02-15 12:04 PM
why didn't i ask you in that other post?
i sort of did with this: "the line: 'but of course this is OKP' threw me all the way off."
but that wasn't the topic of conversation in that post.
more message board shit.
i'm still with you on the whole 'cool nigga, regardless of a website'
>Cuz irl ....it wouldn't be carried like this
but im still not adding this up.
what are the major differences?
the only thing i could think of is tough typing.
and i give everyone the assumption that it's something they'd say in real life.

12770369, Being on here can feel like a completely separate world. Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 10:46 AM
For good and bad. But when people call it out...95% of the time, it's either bad or just way way different.
I've seen so many opinions on here that I would never, ever ever hear in person or "real life." Even funnier, OKP's here don't even act or talk the same way in person.
It's almost like everyone has to fit into an OKP persona, because they know they'll be judged for speaking the way they do in real life. And although people away from OKP/the Internet may feel the same way about things as those here, it's not as common, and usually won't be as loudly spoken.

realizing that i might be annoying in real life is potentially devastating.

12770423, Perfect example is when my ex sucked dick in public. Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 11:30 AM
So I told the same story to about 8 of my friends, six were women. Same tone, but omitted the "cool story, ho" part.
Except one...ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of them were shocked, and were like "that's hoe behavior!" "She's wild!" "Hell naw, the hell is her problem??"
And let OKP tell it, that means I have friends who are judgmental, stuck in the past, operate on double standards that have been brainwashed into us due to patriarchy. But nope, that's just the normal reaction from most regular folks. So yeah, that was a true "Only on OKP" moment.
|
12770442, that was a tough story though. Posted by Deadzombie, Thu Apr-02-15 11:42 AM
i remember reading and trying to imagine how you feel about an ex lover sucking dick in public.
there's a reasonable assumption that you included that 'ho' part because it's easier for you to turn your nose up at her decision. specifically because she's an ex.
telling that story in person probably lends itself better to you being unaffected.
|
12770515, And I thought people would at least get that part...it was an ex! Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 12:24 PM
People in general always have negative feelings about an ex, and will use ANY fuel against them. Whether it's serious hatred, or just light hearted fun.
I surely wouldn't have added that line if it was about ANYONE else, whether it was a homegirl, or just a random girl I heard about.
|
12770447, umm i was there and NO Posted by BabySoulRebel, Thu Apr-02-15 11:45 AM
>So I told the same story to about 8 of my friends, six were >women. Same tone, but omitted the "cool story, ho" part.
Quite a few of us laughed it off too til we got to the "cool story, heaux" part and we even said that. This pretty much confirms for me that you were def trolling that day if you had enough sense to omit that irl.
|
12770493, I surely said that I was joking when I put that part, though. Just that Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 12:15 PM
it was way too late, and everyone had already gone in. I said that to the very first response.
|
12770448, nope. this would work better if you'd said 'cool story ho' IRL Posted by SoWhat, Thu Apr-02-15 11:46 AM
and your friends ignored it.
|
12770496, Thing is, writing a story in a post is a completely different thing. Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 12:18 PM
You can tell tone a whole lot easier when it's told in person. And with that line...I couldn't even say that while telling it to someone in a story. In most of the cases, before I even got to the end of the story, people were like "wait...what???" and asking questions.
|
12770524, the story poasted bc of 'cool story ho'. Posted by SoWhat, Thu Apr-02-15 12:28 PM
The conversation IRL didn't poast - but you didn't say 'cool story ho' so I dunno if your friends wouldve ignored that and gone full-bore with the slut shaming. It seems the 'playery' part of the poast was the lecturing about 'cool story hi' instead of pearl clutching about the public performance.
|
12770566, Yeah that was definitely the playery part Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 12:40 PM
Wasn't much pearl clutching at all.
|
12770498, no one would ignore it IRL.. they woulda cosigned the hoeness Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Apr-02-15 12:19 PM

|
12770483, But lissen LOL Posted by DaHeathenOne76, Thu Apr-02-15 12:07 PM
The normal reaction IS judgmental, stuck in the past and operating on double standards. Misogyny hurts everybody even women who express it.

|
12770507, To be fair...even a guy couldn't get away with this. Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Apr-02-15 12:22 PM
The folks who reacted and said it was "hoe" behavior surely wouldn't judge it the same if she did the usual "meet a guy at the club and have sex."
We have actually all clowned one of my boys who is pretty damn dirty...for example, he ate a stripper out in a gas station parking lot within 15 minutes of meeting her. So he gets judged even worse...some girls in our circle don't take him serious at all, and will even give a heads up to women who he's into.
So it's not always about being judgmental or one sided against women only...even if "hoe" isn't the word that is used for men.
|

where everyone can rock their cape for the day.
|
12770581, ^^^^^ This is the answer. ^^^^^ Posted by soulfunk, Thu Apr-02-15 12:45 PM
And it's also why it's not just OKP but on many message boards that lend themselves well to arguing online. The people who feel the strongest about an issue in one direction or the other are gonna be the people who actually participate in that specific post. The people who are really the majority and in the middle are like "Eh" and either just read the post for lols or keep scrolling until they find a post that touches a nerve. Like you said, waiting to find the post that makes them want to put on their cape.
So when you're reading a typical post with tons of arguments back and forth it's just the people on the extremes of the issue and it feels like on here everyone is extremely against the "norm".

and yes, we know that many of our opinions and behaviors are non-traditional.
DUH.
and no, we don't give a shit what the folks 'in the streets' or at the barbershop or at church or where ever have to say that contradicts what we say here.
DUH.
we are comfortable expressing alternative opinions and living alt-lives. we don't care that we are a minority in the larger world. we do us anyway. we come here to find some kindred spirits and to sharpen our stances.
so telling us that we're 'oddball' is like

i have decided that whoever is disagreeing with me has an unreasonable position, and sees the world so differently than me that it is not worth seeking mutual understanding or common ground.
for example, it is not worth me explaining why you are a homophobe because this is okayplayer.
it is not worth you explaining why you are not because this is okayplayer.
it is not worth you telling me that I am bringing up gay shit to discredit your perfectly neutral, devoid of context post because this is okayplayer.
you made this post to troll for responses even though you will play innocent because this is okayplayer.
it is not worth you explaining why you aren't a troll because this is okayplayer.
it means the poster has no interest in having the samw conversation again when it is already known by both parties that the discussion is not worth it.
it is an attempt to marganilize an opinion by casting the speaker as the lone voice of reason on the forum.
it's a clever rhetorical trick but I usually disregard ppl that use it too often.
because this is okayplayer.
