12766681, Where the hell did "Lean In" come from?
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Mar-30-15 01:13 PM
Is anyone else kinda taken aback by how this term is suddenly everywhere?

Where the hell did it come from and how has it suddenly taken media by storm?

I had never heard this term used in this new context to like "step up to the plate," "accept the challenge," or "take the risk" before like 2-3 months ago. Now it feels like I'm reading or hearing the phrase every other day.

her book: http://www.amazon.com/Lean-In-Women-Work-Will/dp/0385349947

and her popular TED Talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/sheryl_sandberg_why_we_have_too_few_women_leaders?language=en

12766706, Interesting how influential she has become outside her sphere with this

Did it really pop for you in the past 2-3 months like it has for me? Seems the book came out in 2013.
12766744, It started a new round of debate over whether woman can/shld have it all
Posted by Cocobrotha2, Mon Mar-30-15 01:43 PM
She basically said women need to try harder to be successful in business while having families. Some folks felt she was talking from a place of privilege as a rich woman who can afford to get help to raise her kid. Others felt there's always a compromise when it comes to career vs family. Still others felt that she was underestimating the effect of sexism.

Anyway, her and her book were the subject of think pieces for a good year in magazines, blogs and newspapers
