12761077, Spin's list of 101 Best Kanye produced songs (no Ye feature on 'em – swipe
Posted by c71, Tue Mar-24-15 02:33 PM
the author Andrew Unterberger got the date wrong for #3 “Stand up” (I knew that because in his commentary Andrew listed a different year). I corrected that for the swipe but I'm just telling y'all because Andrew might have some more wrong dates.

Obviously I didn't copy Andrew's commentary for each track listed but y'all are probably more knowledgeable as Andrew.

The 101 Best Kanye West-Produced Songs That Don't Feature Kanye
Looking at the legacy of hip-hop's preeminent rapper/producer, when he only focuses on the latter half.

By Andrew Unterberger

March 24 2015, 10:01 AM ET

We've hung on every word of Kanye West's for so long — in his verses, on his Twitter, in his interviews — that it's hard to remember sometimes that he first came to prominence saying nothing at all. By the time of his debut single, 2003's "Through the Wire," West had been building his resume as a producer for seven years, manning the decks for hits, deep cuts, and one-offs for Cam'Ron, Talib Kweli, Jay Z, and more. Guest features were sporadic, but generally speaking, Kanye let his beats speak for themselves, with their pitched-up vocal hooks, knocking drums, and instantly striking melodies.

Since then, Yeezy has obviously grown more loquacious, to the point where his lyrics and quotes have become such an integral part of the pop vernacular that you can echo him regularly without even realizing it. But every now and then, he'll still offer a beat to a worthy (or occasionally less so) contemporary without speaking on the track, just to remind us that even if he can change the musical conversation with a single line, he hasn't forgotten which half of the rapper/producer equation he made his bones with.

Hence, Kanye Without Kanye: SPIN's list of the 101 greatest Yeezus-produced, but not Yeezus-rapped, tracks. It spans from the work Kanye did on forgotten Chi-town rapper Grav's Down to Earth album back in 1996, all the way up to his work on Madonna's Rebel Heart album from earlier this month, without a single rap from the late registrant featured. (He does chime in on a couple tracks, but stops well short of an entire verse on any.) Read on, discover songs you never even knew were 'Ye's in the first place, and gain a new appreciation for West's legacy as a dude who (sometimes) lets other people do the talking for him.

Huh?! Did you not hear Prhyme?? Royce has only gotten better my man.

>Huh?! Did you not hear Prhyme?? Royce has only gotten better
>my man.

theres only so much my dick is big and and holding hammers talk I can take these days. yes he's still one of the most technically gifted rappers but the subject matter is so limited he sounds corny nowadays imo
12762275, Understandable to a degree.
Posted by Brew, Wed Mar-25-15 12:39 PM
If you've avoiding the Slaughterhouse stuff, that I can understand completely. I haven't heard a lot of that either and for the same reasons.

But Royce's solo stuff is FAR more versatile than that and I urge you to reconsider giving that stuff a try. If you liked his early stuff you'll still like his late career stuff. He's better technically than ever and his subject matter is just as diverse, if not more. Success is Certain was great.

His mixtapes are great to me, too, but those are a lot of dick measuring and dissing Lil Wayne and stuff so I won't push those as hard as his solo stuff.

And I can't possibly say enough about Prhyme. You need to hear that. Everyone does.
12761252, Dipset Forever should be #1
Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Tue Mar-24-15 04:05 PM

otherwise it absolutely should be.
12764986, agreed. also, is there a version of the Chuck Cissel sample..
Posted by PROMO, Fri Mar-27-15 11:47 AM
on the internetz that DOESN'T have static in it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlyjieEvKZc

it's like there's only ONE mp3 of that ever existed online because i've only found the one on various download services and here someone uploaded the same damn one to YouTube. still a ridiculous sample source even with the static.

seems like the only way to get it would be to find the vinyl.
12761257, Get By should be higher. I caught the holy ghost the first time I heard it.

Posted by murph71, Tue Mar-24-15 04:10 PM

"Get By" should be higher..."Takeover" ain't the best Ye produced song without his vocals...There's too many more to count....Shit is side-eye worthy....
12761349, Don Cannon produced Numbers on the Board. list is trash.
Posted by themaddfapper, Tue Mar-24-15 05:30 PM
12761483, that beat was so fucking nasty tho....

12761566, goddamn he's done so much more than i realized...
Posted by gumz, Tue Mar-24-15 10:29 PM
and i'm happy to see he is still producing heavily today. it's almost felt like he slowed his production production (lack of words) down but not according to the list. I didn't realize he made all those Pusha T beats. Figured he curated them shits or something. Dude is still a monster.

He's also been around a lot longer than I realized. That Jermain Dupri beat threw me...I remember that shit and damn sure had no clue who a Kanye was then.
12761695, Shame they didn't include any "featuring Kanye" productions...
Posted by Af-1, Wed Mar-25-15 08:56 AM
'Still Dreamin' and 'In The Mood' spring to mind.

Of this list though, I would've liked to see 'Get By' higher (if not #1), plus 'Everything I Love' higher too - that song is too under-rated!
12761792, Yep. Cam'ron's Down & Out would have made the list then
