12755821, we're talking about it in PTP

but if you must have this convo here I'll just say straight up. That cover would never be done w/male heros.

She's CRYING for christ's sake, she looks like a victim, not a hero. That's what the uproar is over. I gotta say, I agree too. I wouldn't want to see Spiderman crying in fear from Sandman - would you?
12755826, Fam, click on the 2nd link. It shows Batman crying.

12755828, Crying over a dead Robin. Not crying 'cause villains are scary.

horrific halucinations and dreams to the point where they are sobbing and crying. This has happaned to batman and his allies several times in many comics.

The Joker has used his own version of this and has hired scarecrow before.

You know what fuck this, we are talking about fictional characters here.
12755849, *ding*

^^^this
12755856, That's not the same thing as crying in fear - non chemically induced.
Posted by spades, Wed Mar-18-15 06:29 PM
It's just no.
12755868, Do you know whats happening on the cover?
Posted by ShinobiShaw, Wed Mar-18-15 06:41 PM
Was it indicated if she was drugged or not?
For the record I like the cover and I agree with the decision to pull it but you guys are claiming stuff that you can not prove.

and we are still talking about fictional characters
12755833, funny thing happened in that PTP post

when i posted the comics code I must have tripped the work-scanner with too many "no-no" words

the firewall locks me out now

ultimately though the cover is foul because its foul, not because "they would never show a man like that"

there are a gang of covers/panels with male hero's crying, and in physical jeopardy

either way, after posting I realized folks gon' be all up in their isms and its best to just let the thing be as it is:

the artist didn't want the drama and requested it be pulled, and DC pulled it

everybody got what they wanted
12755858, You probaby wouldn't be able to take the artist of the cover sereiously either....

"The industry of HQ has always been sexist. It is important to review our values and our positions, "he said. "We need to learn to listen, empathize with anyone who has an opinion different from yours. If put in place of the other and consider. Discussions on the internet tend to turn childish tantrums, on one side or the other ".

"A magazine geared toward the teenage female audience should not have a heavy cover such as this. Independent of the question of who is right or wrong, that I did not fit the proposal that it should have, "said the artist. "I don't think a magazine that has the intention to elevate the female self-esteem should have an image which might suggest otherwise".

12755890, that flies as long as you don't actually follow the book

point: all that "it's not cool for a book aimed at young girls..." business is kinda *iffy*
12755893, Good thing I've been follwing it since it soft rebooted in Oct. 2014...

...when Brenden Fletcher and Cameron Stewart took over and they redirected to a lighter tone and younger audience.

Here's what Stewart had to say about the cover...

Cameron Stewart

The cover was not seen or approved by anyone on Team Batgirl and was completely at odds with what we are doing with the comic.
12755895, okay. that proved my point....

(note: I didn't mean YOU, you...I meant the reader of the comment)

historically, beyond the past 6 issues, this book (including previous volumes) has a sketchy history of this very thing

progress/change is good, but one could easily side-eye this sudden change based more on market-reaching than actual morals

that's just opinion tho

if nothing else DC should me mindful of shifts in their own marketing

company-wide they do this kinda stuff (not just gender-tone-deafness, but otherwise also) far too often

part of me almost is suspicious enough to think they *LIKE* this kinda drama on some "any pub is good pub"

12755910, The reader of the comment?

You mean the artist commissioned to do the cover?
