we'll always figure out how the group we belong to is different than another group and in what ways we r superior to them

Racism, colorism and other forms of xenophobia will never die because 1) you can't will out of existence something that exists and 2) there will be divide-and-conquer tactics for the rest of time.

But I do think we can get better at understanding, recognizing and opposing such deplorable tactics.

at this point, I think it's safe to assume that the majority of families in the US have some minority race represented in their tree

or at least mixed

that is to say, the larger problem with alot of these issues that are gaining attention recently

is the attitude of; them

it's something that happens; over there

i.e., until these injustices touch people directly, as unfortunate as that is, they won't care.

Especially when those people have deep relationships with others of your race as well.

I think it's harder to just settle into stereotypes about a person's race if you know them well as an individual and understand why they, as an individual, act he way they do.

At a national/society level? I don't think so. We're just too big and diverse a nation to not rely on some false generalizations about people.
