I think, when a documentary stirs that pot back up and empowers myriads of stupid people to call him an Uncle Tom all over again, it's hard to blame dude for wanting to respond.

Though I agree that there's no "winning" in responding to some bullshit like that.

(It also didn't help that it became "the hot button topic" on ESPN the days following the documentary. Made it an even bigger "discussion" than a teenager's dumb namecalling twenty years ago justified. Who knows if it even would have been anything without ESPN pumping it into their media cycle every hour for that week?)
