and fuck xtian laettner. i was always torn about duke b/c though i'm a michigan fan i felt some kinda way about ppl hating on duke players for being smart. and since i wasn't a street kid and i was always in the smrt kid classes i related to the duke players more than the fab 5. i wanted to see the fab 5 win mostly b/c of my familial connections (born on campus to 2 students). but then the anti-duke trash talk had me defending duke, meanwhile the pro-duke trash talk had me siding w/the fab 5.

then there was xtian - i said 'fuck xtian'...i left off the 'i wanted to...' part. b/c back then i did but i wasn't ready to embrace that yet.

anyway, i was torn back then.

I didn't even know that. I knew about Hurley, but not Laettner. That old footage of him was absolutely fascinating to see. You can see him getting shaped into the kid he'd become.

I think, when a documentary stirs that pot back up and empowers myriads of stupid people to call him an Uncle Tom all over again, it's hard to blame dude for wanting to respond.

(It also didn't help that it became "the hot button topic" on ESPN the days following the documentary. I hated Hurley before Duke tho, my ex went to the sister school to St. Anthony's and she used to kick it with him and Terry Dehere. I was sick of them and they both ended up at school's that I didn't like; Duke and Seton Hall.

I'll always hate that team because the refs would turn a blind eye to all there shitty fouls. They never got called for charges and they flopped like LeBron in a soccer uniform.

But in truth, it's players like Laettner who made the college game what it was in the most competitive era in ncaa history. Nowadays you don't have that anymore because players don't stick around long enough for you to get familiar w/them.

and wanted to Shaq to be on dream team and whip on that turkey, however in hindsight CL is one of the ten greatest college basketball players in my lifetime despite my disdain for Duke and Coach K.
