I'm sure he loves his congregation and believes that he's doing the best buy them....
It also sounds like the man has built himself a little empire, ostensibly in service of god, and possibly to his own ego.
I don't know him personally...but once again, I've been to a few churches in my time, I've met a few pastors with famous names. I'm not unfamiliar with American Christianity, and I'm not saying these things to denigrate Christianity as a faith, I just think that there are people who have given into worldly temptations despite their claims to be serving god.
And I think this is true of a lot of religions. It happens in Islam, it happens in Buddhism, it happens with Hinduism, and Baha'i.
And there's a reason why all of those religions, including yours, warn about pride.
