12751717, the case of creflo dollar v. jesus

college park, georgia, is overwhelmingly poor (37% of residents live below the poverty line, average income is $30k/yr-- 43% below national average) and overwhelmingly black (82%).

largely from this community, pastor dollar is attempting to extract $65 million to fund what bloomberg has called "gulfstream's holy grail of private jets," essentially a flying rolls-royce (pastor dollar already owns two of the driving kind). he will use it to travel the world collecting six-figure speaking fees.

jesus was a homeless preacher (luke 9:58) who walked the countryside spreading the gospel, speaking out against the immoral rich, and taking nothing from his followers (except once-- he took five loaves and two fish, which he used to feed a crowd that had gathered to hear him speak). he never once passed a collection plate. he owned nothing. his only recorded outburst of anger was in response to people using the church as a place of commerce. it is one of only 11 events recorded in all four gospels.

so the question isn't whether the pastor of a nonprofit church based in college park, georgia, should be driving a rolls-royce, flying in a G6 paid for by his followers, and charging six-figure speaking fees to share the gospel. the question is how obscenely profane is it that he's doing it in the name of jesus. the question is how anyone could possibly consider that person to be christ-like.
