12743825, What keeps James Fauntleroy from being a star?
Posted by Hitokiri, Fri Mar-06-15 09:12 AM
He can obviously write hits. He sings well enough. He makes enjoyable music.
Is it cuz he ain't good looking enough?
12743828, 1. he not that cute.

nothing about them makes me think that guy should be a star.

but i hear nothing in them that prevents it either.
12743870, Yea. I came in here to say that...
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-06-15 09:37 AM
while I personally really like him, mostly for the C80s stuff and his writing skills, I just don't think he has the "it" factor or a distinguishable enough voice to make the leap. He's damn talented but there's just something missing that keeps him in the writer's room rather than blowing up himself.
12743893, ANYWHERE BUT HERE IS FLAMES NIGGA

12743834, Who's the biggest star w/ a 3+ syllable last name?
Posted by placee_22, Fri Mar-06-15 09:20 AM
Faunt-le-roy just seems like a lot to say.

12743851, Timberlake.
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-06-15 09:31 AM
12743856, good one...possibly the best one. My brain ain't working yet.

12743868, Haha, well, what's funny is that...
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-06-15 09:35 AM
I sat here for like 5 minutes trying to come up with more examples but couldn't...so, I guess we're both right in a sense.
12744018, Well, to be fair, Timberlake rolls off the tongue....
Posted by The Wordsmith, Fri Mar-06-15 11:38 AM
....a lot smoother than Fauntleroy.

Since 1976
12744101, yeah, it does.

12743889, he don't need to be one
Posted by Geah, Fri Mar-06-15 09:57 AM
i love what he is doing...keep writing hits and dropping em with Cocaine 80s..
12743952, I just realized yesterday...
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-06-15 10:47 AM
>i love what he is doing...keep writing hits and dropping em
>with Cocaine 80s..

...they haven't dropped a gem on us since December 2012! Used to be every several months (since the first in mid-2011) they were dropping one of them EPs. Now we've gone over 2 years without one. I'm kinda fiending.
12743892, Illuminati don't want him man.

12743905, i like a good amount of the cocaine 80s joints.
Posted by teefiveten, Fri Mar-06-15 10:07 AM
not all though
and the ones i like, i do spin and folks dig

but theyre not really huge hits in the making like that

honestly he can last longer being a songwriter and perhaps parlaying C80s to a point where people pay for the work even if it's just a small dedicated fan base
12743911, what if he already is, by his own definition?
Posted by Damali, Fri Mar-06-15 10:12 AM
i mean, hasn't he won a Grammy? what does "star" mean to you?

d
12743931, thats good for him if he is happy
Posted by tomjohn29, Fri Mar-06-15 10:32 AM
i wish he was more of a star because r&b needs to follow him
as a huge fan i hate that he is in the background

12743989, He's not attractive.
Posted by lightworks, Fri Mar-06-15 11:10 AM
Gorgeous voice though.
12743995, Because some singers/songwriters like being lowkey?
Posted by StephBMore, Fri Mar-06-15 11:14 AM
or maybe he prefers to write music for others. some songwriters just don't want to be big celebrities.

Justin Timberlake money...

doubt he's trippin..
12744001, Define what being a star means?

12744009, wait but did yall think Joe was attractive, bobby brown?
Posted by blkprinceMD05, Fri Mar-06-15 11:27 AM
they arent cut at all but yet they blown up initially for music
12744033, Bobby was a sex symbol too.
Posted by SoWhat, Fri Mar-06-15 11:59 AM
But the point about James is he won't blow up just bc or primarily bc lots of ppl want to bone him or think he's pretty. He's not conventionally pretty like that. So he will have to blow up bc of his talent or bc something else about him is notable.
12744023, him.
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Fri Mar-06-15 11:45 AM
he most likely knows what it takes to be a 'star' and doesn't play that game.
he makes the music he likes and gets a good amount of support for that
as a fan we just gotta keep letting the people around us know that we fk with his music
and others may or may not catch on.

12744045, Being able to sing and to write isnt enough
Posted by Heinz, Fri Mar-06-15 12:11 PM
He visually can't sell it, or hasn't found a way to sell it. Like Frank Ocean isn't a sex symbol dude looks and dresses like a normal kid you would pass by everyday but he's able to sell that look it works for him. Fauntleroy is dope don't get it twisted but looking like Kung fu panda isn't cool enough yet, atleast the way he presents it.

So what makes you think he wants to be? Just cuz he releases music? or cuz you want him to be?

He's got a grammy, millions and writes with one of the biggest male artists of our generation. Has he ever even shot a music video? Like I really don't think he cares to be a "star"

but... to be an armchair a&r for a second... imo only one can win between him and Frank Ocean. Their voices are incredibly similar and even though their ideas aren't the marketing of introspective black singer/songwriter would be the same..

Since Frank has the magazine ready looks he probably has the advantage in the scenario..

12744187, I made this post off the video he made which okp posted yesterday
