Potential GOP presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson said on CNN Wednesday that homosexuality is “absolutely” a choice because many people “go into prison straight, and when they come out, they’re gay.”

“So did something happen while they were in there?” Carson continued to host Chris Cuomo. “Ask yourself that question.”

Carson and Cuomo discussed the issue of same-sex marriage, and Carson said civil issues should be determined at the state level, not federal.

When discussing changes made to the Constitution when slavery was abolished, Carson refused to compare the two issues.

“People have no control over their race,” he said, adding that people have control of their sexuality.

Carson argued that it is possible to give a same-sex couple equal rights without defining their relationship as a marriage.

“Why do gay people want to get married? Why do they say they want to get married? Because they want to have various rights — property rights, visitation rights,” he said. “Why can’t any two human beings, I don’t care what their sexual orientation is, why can’t they have the legal right to do those things? That does not require changing the definition of marriage.”

And for the record, the young man considers himself still heterosexual.
But messed up to the point he doesn't feel sure he could be with a man or woman right now.
That doesn't sound like a choice to me.

For several reasons.

- My son is inherently a criminal in a country that punishes young black males basically for breathing.

- He has a 50% chance of being incarcerated, give or take 20% depending on where he is in this country.

- If he is sexually assaulted in prison, there's something like a one in three chance of contracting an STD.

Men in prison begin to fulfill the roles of women as there are no women around. That's all it really comes down to.

This originated during long drawn out war campaign's where men would leave their homes for years at a time, to travel with a conquering army. Men began to fulfill women duties by cooking and cleaning, and eventually, sexuality as well.

However, this has nothing to do with homosexuality. Homosexual men choose men where there are woman around. A closed environment like a prison, where there is a lack of woman, is not an objective testing ground for any hypothesis related to homosexuality.
