Posted by Geah, Wed Mar-04-15 08:18 AM
I got some shit in the works
12741542, Someone threw my boss under the bus...He came to me
Posted by Fishgrease, Wed Mar-04-15 08:58 AM
and asked was it me.

My reply was " Did you see the big ass bonus you signed off for me to receive at the end of this month?"

He thought about it...and then went back to contemplating who it could be.

I could see how he thought it was me but he looks out for me and I'm loyal to his generosity.

FFWD a couple hours later, his boss calls me into the office to ask me about some stuff that another manager over heard about my manager and when I was told what I was told, I was able to get my manager out of hot water by going to my desk and forwarding an email that handled a situation my manager overlooked only because I addressed it initially and told him not to worry about it.

I come in this morning and there's a $100 Best Buy gift card in my desk drawer with a note that simply said "Thanks...get your son a new game".

12741545, And where do you work? LOL

2nd of all HELL NO indian aint gonna give you $100 for saving his ass, clown! are you serious? he might buy you some liquor. MAYBE. actually he wouldnt need to have his ass saved but the LAST motherfucker he'd trust to help him out would be fishgrease black ass. cmon.

And the gift about is not the issue. You made a statement that signified that Black people would not show and appreciation beyond a thank you. I wanted to know if you though that it's a Black issue or if you just think that White people are on a different level of gift appreciation.

fishgrease boss gave him $100 for saving his ass. its been MY experience having worked for & among many MANY different cultures that...by & large...when this happens its MAINLY white people who do it.

i didnt say shit abt what Black ppl do or dont do.

I think it's because he's asian that people are constantly coming for his neck---I find myself often thinkin' that they wouldn't even try a black man the way they do him in this office.

but you're right about the Indian dudes---they're not coming off any amount of money, hence why the ones that work in my office have some of the highest personal net worths of anyone in the company.

12741547, I inadvertently started some shit on facebook
Posted by Very-Effortless, Wed Mar-04-15 09:02 AM
15 years of posting on OKP has given me a unique skill set for accidentally reading this hell out of someone without using one curse word.

Yesterday, someone in a facebook group I'm a part of posted the name of a sexual assault victim and I kindly asked the admin to delete her post because it was inappropriate and tantamount to cyber bullying. She got up in arms about it and called me uppity. I addressed the fact that she was wrong and my reply to her calling me uppity ended up being me reading the shit out of her. I've been getting inboxes and phone calls about that shit for the last 24 hours... someone even made a sub-group just to address the shit around it. Apparently I unearthed 15 years worth of hurt feelings.

I kinda feel bad about it because I didn't mean to call her out like I did but she earned that shit.
12741550, But are your really sorry about it?

But hey. if it works for you then you're gonna play it out anyway. I just see too much that can go wrong emotionally and physically. But people are going to find variables to support their position no matter what.

Ho did you get assimilated in to this lifestyle? How may people are in your relationship? What are the gender numbers and races?

I didn't make any judgements about you. I ask a few questions so that I can understand your choice in life since you were the one that advertised the subject. I could care less about the outcome, but I did want to know why people choose such relationships.

I swear, y'all juts want a cheering section for everything.

It's all about perspective. You ask for my opinion and I give it on the general topic. I never said anything about you. You chose to take it personal.

So, yes, you should learn to not be so sensitive and we will both have an amazing day.

12741803, I watched that Poly show on HBO... smh, they looked miserable
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Mar-04-15 11:09 AM
all those rules, secrets, etc...

I only knew one person on that poly shit and no one looked happy AT ALL.

I think the idea of meeting/hooking up with new people is the fun part but all the juggling, sexplaining, etc...

like you, I think 1 relationship has enough ups and downs. Why do that with more than 1 person?

I guess it can work but I have yet to see one post with someone in it on here talking about how they are HAPPY in it.

...this weather is threatening to keep us from this show tomorrow. and that is upsetting me. got my fingers crossed that the snow isn't that bad and we'll make it. but it might keep people in general away. i'd prefer if it were postponed than if we got there snow and shit and the crowd was bare.

I must say that I'm a bit happy, nervous, sad, and proud. Happy because he's going to have a great deal of fun that night and remember this weekend for the rest of his life. I'm nervous because I don't want him to do anything stupid to jeopardize his future. He's a great kid, but it only takes on mistake these days to set the wheel of BS in motion. Plus they are taking a party bus, which will eliminate the drunk driving / accident variable. I'm sad because this is one more milestone that's even further away for KC being my little buddy. I miss my little boy that needed his father. I'm proud because he's one step closer to graduating, going off to college, and becoming a better man then I will ever be.

I'm happy for him too. I know he was worried he wasn't going to have a branch on his family tree. All his other siblings have grandkids except for him but I'll be damned if I had a kid at 18 and out of wedlock like most of them.

I wanted to do it the "right" way and I did..

Pretty sure my wife is going to stay at home for the first year or 2 and teach dance classes in the evening. We about to be broke as shit.

I gotta step my money game up for this kid. I'm ready tho...

Her sister has 4 kids and stays pregnant and I could see my sister getting jealous of the attention her mom was giving to her grandkids.

IT just... ionno, I see her researching, glowing and talking about this child and it's like I have a new wife.

I love it.

Posted by abby, Wed Mar-04-15 10:15 AM

I was so devastated by the loss of my family members around Christmas, that I was not paying attention to who was propping me up. And a person propped me up daily with no request for return on his investment. I was appreciative, but quite frankly too confounded by loss to really notice.

Now that the fog is clearing, I'm realizing that I might be in love. Like in LOVE love. And this whole time, he's been in love with me.

I'm grateful to God.
12741680, Congratulations!

I hope that this becomes all that you have ever wanted in a relationship. This same thing happened to my boy. His pops died around the holidays a few years ago and the woman that was present in his life eventually became his wife.

One day before they got engaged, I asked him how did he know that she was the one. That's when he told me that he knew because she was the one that was there for him when his pops died. She was the one that care for his emotions and supported him during the process.

pretty sure the wife is pregnant again. well, she is, but it's VERY early. i have mixed feelings. i'm excited about another child, but stressed about the whole process, like everything about having another child. in addition to that, we lost one this past summer and while i try to encourage my wife to not even think about that as the stress and worry isn't going to do anyone any good, i'm thinking about it. i don't want to have to go through that again. it was VERY tough for her, and me as well, but to a lesser extent of course. fortunately right now i'm in a good place as far as employment goes, but we still livin' tight. the expense of another one is gonna be tough, but it'll all work out because it always does. God is good and i know this will be a blessing for our family, and i really want my son to have a sibling, but i'm nervous and don't quite yet feel the same level of excitement i did when she was pregnant with our son 5 years ago.

also, this has been an emotional week for our family. not just immediate, but extended on my wife's side especially. we lost a great man of God, Pastor Robert Brown, last week. he embodied what it means to be like Christ. the most humble, kind, giving, humble, Godly, Christ-like, humble person i think i've ever known. he was the Pastor that counseled and married me and my wife and dedicated our son. my wife's parents helped him start his church in a living room of a house and under his teaching and preaching it has grown. he was a wonderfully humble and kind man, and he is greatly missed. our Peace comes from knowing he is now with God enjoying the fruits of his labor, but knowing him he's just grateful to be there and will pass on his rewards for someone else.

Rest In Peace and Glory, Pastor Bob.

honor you. The passing of an influence in our lives can be hard, but at the same time we can take courage and comfort when we know that our heart is right with God and the person that has gone home. I can tell that you have a great deal of reverence for that man that you spoke about and that feeling will become apart of how you want to live and be remembered in the future. As such, that person will still live on in your heart and through your actions in life. He was a great man to you and thus, you will be a great man to others.

Posted by lightworks, Wed Mar-04-15 10:33 AM
I obviously have an eye but so do so many other people who have been doing it for so much longer.

I want to get a DSLR but a friend discouraged me and said stick with my iphone 6 for now.

12741706, that was actually very sound advice
Posted by BabySoulRebel, Wed Mar-04-15 10:35 AM
for the blog I'm learning food photography
I did a search on Amazon for camera lenses and tripods for my Galaxy 5
I was unsuccessful with my first purchase but it was a learning experience that only cost me 12 bucks so I'm not sweating it.

When I did my search I actually found way more shutterbug accessories for the iPhone 6 than the Galaxy 5 so I would definitely suggest that to start and take it from there.
12741714, im a professional photographer
Posted by labcoat, Wed Mar-04-15 10:37 AM
that was dumb advice
you need a DSLR
if you really want to get in the game

camera phones
are good for on the spot
12741826, let me be clear
Posted by labcoat, Wed Mar-04-15 11:16 AM
i cannot imagine you being a portrait photographer
or wedding photographer
with an iphone

i dont even know if clients would take you seriously

so what type of photographer do you want to be?
12741839, NO potentially-paying client would take her seriously
Posted by 8-bit, Wed Mar-04-15 11:20 AM
Part of what puts clients at ease is when they see the big hardware that they don't own and don't know how to use. I've gotten a few gigs just from people seeing me with my camera (I do video and stills) and asking me how much I charge.

I imagine getting laughed at for trying to shoot professionally (meaning you're charging folks).
12741877, I don't want to do weddings. I think I want to do the pics I take on IG
Posted by lightworks, Wed Mar-04-15 11:36 AM
But in much better quality.

Peep: http://www.instagram.com/mica4life

There's an industry for that type of photography.

Not as easy money as weddings or models I know.
12742049, If you're just gonna do artsy abstract stuff, stick with your phone...
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Wed Mar-04-15 01:18 PM
Or even an advanced point and shoot. DSLR optional. I have a friend who does the abstract type of stuff in photography, has gallery shows and I've never seen him with a DSLR. I know he uses a P&S.

Otherwise? Have you ever seen a wedding, portrait or event photographer using a damn phone?

Put away about 2K and get you a prosumer DSLR and a good lens or two. That's what I did, but I'm just a hobbyist.

Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Mar-04-15 11:25 AM
I'm not a professional but I know my way around a camera and you need a real camera if you are serious about this.

Here is what I did. I told EVERYONE in my family to get me Best Buy gift cards for my Bday and Xmas.

I walked in with $300-$400 dollars worth of gift cards and got a Rebel.

It isn't the best but it's does the job.

12741884, Like everyone says above, get an entry level dslr
Posted by BigReg, Wed Mar-04-15 11:39 AM

ONLY SHOOT IN MANUAL MODE: searching the internet will give you the basics on how to do so; a quickie class if they offer those in your area might be worth it also (there are some photog classes in NYC that teach you the basics for free or dirt cheap).

These books are good read to cover those concepts:

http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Exposure-3rd-Edition-Photographs/dp/0817439390

http://www.amazon.com/Chasing-Light-Improving-Photography-Available/dp/0321752503

After that it's a matter of taking AS MANY PHOTOS AS YOU CAN. During this phase id focus less on heavy editing until you get used to the cameras controls/concepts involved with taking shots on manual, getting your eye, etc.

THEN learn Lightroom or other photo friendly image editing software, which after the above should be a breeze since you should already know what you're aiming for with your editing and how to fix what's 'wrong' (which can be very subjective, thus the time you spend just learning what works and doesn't work for you without running to immediately crop/edit/filter pics)

Posted by lightworks, Wed Mar-04-15 11:58 AM
Unfortunately I am still kicking myself for letting a used t3 offer go for $200 last weekend but I'm sure I can find a cheap used one to start with.

Thanks for all the links much appreciated!
12742010, make sure its a t3i, not t3
Posted by BigReg, Wed Mar-04-15 01:00 PM
notice the letter in the end. pretty much any of the entry level canons you look at should have the i at the end of it, they did some fugazi shit and have some heavily crippled vanilla versions that they try to sneak by people.

Considering i saw the t3i on sale for like 350 new last week for 200 bucks that what you should expect.

12742023, Ah thanks. Yeah it was $200 for a used t3.
Posted by lightworks, Wed Mar-04-15 01:06 PM
Doesn't sound like a good deal now that I know a t3i was on sale for $350.

Also same guy tried to sell me a used t5 for $380 then lowered it to $320.

Passed on that too.
12742130, If it it doesn't have an i at the end, its worth 200 bucks less.
Posted by BigReg, Wed Mar-04-15 02:01 PM
Also, all the Txi series of cameras from T2i on have the same guts+picture quality its just the features change. Wifi, touch screen, speed, etc...so if you see a t2i cop that (or t5i for that matter).

That said, it seems the nikon entry levels are BIT cheaper. Like the videogame wars of sega vs nintendo, there's no real difference between them at the end of the day, so you can shop there too.

Happy with how things are going
Happy with my life
Not happy I haven't been to the gym in over a month
But spending time with ppl I love
Has made me put working out at the bottom of the list

I'm perfectly content with what happened
I feel no regrets at all

I'm sitting at work sending dirty, explicit texts to him
I wish my vacation was coming up this month
Being away for two weeks would give me a better idea
Of where I stand with him and if I should persue it
Or just be friends

I'm annoyed and don't want to go out on this date
I don't know if I'm being unreasonable
Or if I should really give him a chance
You wanted to take me out
Let me pick the place
Then say it's too expensive when it isn't
This just isn't starting well

I am signing up for more art classes
And I want to start working with water colors
I might go buy some tonight

Last week during the snowstorm, I got out there and shoveled my driveway (well one half of it. I got a two car garage. Only did the half I use) and the steps and walkway. Threw down some calcium chloride, called it a night.

It rained and sleeted a bit after that. Long story short- My driveway and the walkway are still iced over. Steps are okay. There's a couple of trees that shade that part of my property, so I don't get that sun melt like everyone else. So it looks like I'm negligent even though I wasn't.

Plus I got a light ankle sprain cause of that shat. And the Home Depot is out of the ice melt. Plus I think some water from my roof is contributing to my driveway problem.

I can't wait for spring.

The little guy is in just about every post of mine saying something slick in a poor attempt to gain my attention and favor. It's rather sad at ho the little desperate the little fella has become. He's obsessed and confused.

Maybe someone can talk to'em to set him back on a better path.

This heiffer been tawnbout how I'm wack, can't rap, how I'm always rapping ABOUT rap & I rappity rap. Says she ain't like my song "Apex" & only shot the video for a quick buck. Meanwhile, I'm supporting her t-shirt business & featuring her on my album. Word got to me through the homie after they had a discussion about how she CLEARLY hasn't listened to any of my music to make such a statement. Out of the 39 recorded songs I have out on mixtapes & my album only 10 or 11 are about rap! Not to mention soundcloud loosies & such. She coo with G-Side & was with Slow Motion Sounds & thinks she's the authority on what's dope or not. Also, she formed a coup against him, the same one who got her the job, to get him stepped down from supervisor because he's doing his job. Anyway, I'm taking her off my album. Hard Work feat. SHA on the way!

12742371, i have ups and downs...
Posted by Marla, Wed Mar-04-15 03:55 PM
-My involvement with social media. As it becomes more of a distraction I unfriend/delete to keep my numbers down. I use arbitrary, impersonal guidelines. Some of the time I look back and don't realize I've unfriended someone as my need to keep the numbers manageable has been semi-capricious and largely impersonal.

I have to actively work on maintaining connections with others. When I start to feel like everyone's lives resemble a magazine for me to flip through I pare down to keep from becoming too desensitized. I confess that I miss a couple of those who I've unfriended in the past but wish for a way to get/give periodic updates instead of daily banter.

12742383, Moving sucked ass, but it feels great to be a homeowner
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Mar-04-15 04:01 PM
There's nothing good about the moving process. I hate it all. However, it was incredibly satisfying to sleep in a home where I actually owned the property.

Digging our way out is sort of a pain. The bedroom, the kitchen, the record room, and the bathrooms are basically functional. And we have cable, Internet, and phone. But there's still a lot of work to be done.
12742716, oh snap congrats where'd you buy?
Posted by dba_BAD, Wed Mar-04-15 10:41 PM
Moving is the worst, but yeah gotta feel some kind of special moving into a spot that's yoursown
12742740, Thanks. Moved to Hercules. 3 Br, 2.5 bath, 1,700 sq. ft.
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Mar-04-15 11:35 PM
Very quiet and very nice.

Considering how the rents are moving in Emeryville and our old complex in particular, this move is looking more and more necessary.
12742798, dope. ive celebrated at the dead fish before and enjoyed it
Posted by dba_BAD, Thu Mar-05-15 02:38 AM
and point pinole is gorgeous. whole shoreline over there really. my mother swims in the bay 4-5x/week in point richmond

and yes rents around here are going hammertime
12743200, Been to the Dead Fish up in Crockett many, many, MANY times
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Mar-05-15 12:55 PM
Actually what got us into the housing market was the availability of a home in Crockett ***right*** across the street from where my best friend lives. That didn't work out due to the shady Realtor who represented that place. But it all worked out regardless.
12742418, i hate *this* school
Posted by akon, Wed Mar-04-15 04:21 PM
this week i've come >< close to quitting this bullshit

like seriously. its not normal to have 3-4 assignments due every day (shit this is supposed to be a doctoral program?)

i'd be fine if i felt i was learning some profound shit
but like yesterday i sat in class that was talking about gender (on some undergrad type, biological vs societal -i had this class 10 years ago shit, that was supposed to be profound).
*this is apparently one of my better classes*
im supposed to be getting a solid grounding on epidemiology and biostatistics
which i appreciate (to some extent), but i dont understand 'two-month terms
im not planning to be an epidemiologist or a statistician or a researcher (wtf is a researcher?)
so. yea.
most days im thinking of how i can transfer to common sense
(even considering going back to nyc).

this weather has me down. i dont do well in freezing temp and snow.

what's the upside? trip to madrid coming up!
if i can find time to go to d.c and apply for a visa.

12742938, I wish there were more blogs on the life of doctoral students...
Posted by StephBMore, Thu Mar-05-15 09:56 AM
my old boss goes to the same school you do (I think she's still there, she hasn't mentioned it in a while and I know she hasn't graduated so maybe she's working on her dissertation only). But it's hard to know if a school will be a perfect fit without fully being in a program because what you and is presented always looks nice. But I want some blogs where students are not limited in what they say and straight up just talk about the bullshit of it all...because the only real negative you here is "you have no social life."

I'm taking a Cancer Epi class this summer and while i love math, biostats and epi is such a blower...
12742466, since this snow bullshit i been slackin on the gym

for shit that has nothing to do with her. Problem is, he doesn't know half the department has her back. Folks are picking sides. It's gonna be an insurrection soon, I can feel it. lol

Which is fine, because I'm always on CYA mode regardless.
12742737, I finally finished my twists in one day's worth of sitting...

12742774, Training a person for a job you were supposed to be promoted to...
Posted by chitown_butterfly, Thu Mar-05-15 01:06 AM
I sat at my desk and trained her on systems I created. These same systems for her manage. I felt so much rage and sadness. I went to the restroom and pulled myself together. I got out of my feelings and got a game plan together. I watched so many people's roles change and firings. I knew I was on the chopping block as soon as the new DOO/COO got there. I was already ahead of it. I got let go on a Monday, interviewed for another job on a Wednesday and a shit ton of phone interviews and such lined up. I saved money and planned so well for it too. I promised myself I'd never be unemployed again as long as I lived but that place was become more and more toxic. I saw the iceberg and they gave me a lifeboat. Man, I love Skype interviews though. My new fave.
