>2nd of all, i submit that in order to play a gay character >CONVINCINGLY. you must be gay.
that's not at all true.
that's not any more true than it must be true that Anthony Hopkins MUST BE a cannibal b/c he played Hannibal Lecter so convincingly.
or that Deniro MUST BE a gangster b/c he played Vito Corleone so well.
or that Jody Foster MUST BE a whore b/c she played Iris Steensma so well.
it's ludicrous.
i'm gay as the hell and i played Stanley Kowalski in a production of Streetcar - that included a sex scene. how'd i do it?
>if you are straight & playing a gay character...you cant do >the character justice UNLESS YOU have gone through or can put >yourself in the shoes of the character. > >right?
no.
>so when you got to slob down your love interest...thats really >YOU. kissing another man. so you got to think ok, my character >feels XYZ for this man. hes turned on by him. he wants to kiss >him. he wants to run his fingers down his chest or WHATEVER. > >and if YOU are not able to really go there as YOU...YOU cannot >do a good job in that role.
not at all.
i went there as Stanley K though i had no interest in my scene partner.
the same thing happens w/str8 actors playing str8 characters - they have to play convincingly even when they have no attraction to their partner. like in the Notebook - McAdams and Gosling HATED each other. but you can't see it on the screen. they have love scenes - hated each other. played it convincingly.
>so it TEHREFORE stands to reason...the actor who is playing >the character so convincingly...is also gay.
naw.
