I guess because as a guy nothing about dating is free for me - everything is to be earned and/or paid for by me, unless she decides to be nice to me and cover the tip every now and again.
The first 5 or 6 women I ever took out on adult dates, I thought they just all coincidentally wanted drinks. I didn't know that was basically standard.
