The record industry will adopt Friday as the global album release day, Billboard reports. The decision will eliminate the current standard, in which release days are divided by country (it's Tuesday in the US and Monday in the UK).

i know most have adopted the leak or early stream over the traditional tuesday release. i used to get psyched to hear something when it came out, but if i know i'm going to buy it and pretty dang confident i'll like if not love it, i wait for it to come out and get it before hearing it. more and more that meant waiting for the mail and then later waiting for a sale or enough to get free shipping. discussion of a new album was usually obsolete by the time it actually came out. now i chill and listen when i feel like it. the instant gratification piracy culture ruined new music tuesday.

Tuesday is just a good day for new music....

Even when things went all digital and I stopped buy CD's, I'd browse for new releases on the Zune store, que em up on my Zune, and be ready to bang through Hump Day with some heat....

Same thing now....hop on Google Play Music....yada yada yada....


Gonna have to change my habits I guess

with the digital release being first if not exclusive, it hasn't had to be on a tuesday. an independent artist or label can release an album whenever on whatever platform and to whatever stores. even some major labels got in on that (the advent of the surprise album). if you buy physical releases online, preorders ship and may arrive before the release date, imports are out on different days of the week, etc. even brick & mortar stores, including the big boxes, have had new release days other than tuesdays some weeks, especially around a holiday. i loved new music tuesday growing up and fondly remember listening to what would become my favorite albums on their release date, but times change, partly because that excitement consumers had is largely gone.

yeah I saw the release date for GFK/BBNG and I was like (0_o) wtf?

I think it 'dropped' on the 20th.

I got a few purchases here and there...but yeah....all i'll have is the classics to fall back on...but really...an EMP is gonna kill all electricity so....basically we'll all just be humming to each other and tappin our knees
