12733545, Richard Pryor Versus Eddie Murphy Films
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
just got through watching some kind of hero with Richard Pryor and its a film i dig and is very underrated and i dig that theme song by Richard Page of the band mister mr.

anyway Pryor had some films that were on point.

Eddie had some.

however curious who you think had the better film career as a actor and whose films do you still watch.

anybody who knows me knows that i love Which way is up the same as i do Coming to America.

however i couldn't get into harlem nights at all. just average at best

coming to america is a classic film, however Pryor put in work with Which way is up, and a few others
12735070, Which Way Is Up is a classic...

12733570, eddie murphy wins for the simple fact that richard pryor's best role
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Mon Feb-23-15 12:22 AM
was in an eddie murphy film (harlem nights).
12733573, Murphey, although Pryor is SERIOUSLY underated as a dramatic

actor.

He had this movie with Yaphet Koto and Harvey Keital called Blue Collar that was banging.
12733575, Blue Collar

Pryor's dramatic performance there is great. I mean, he's funny sometimes but it is a dramatic film and his performance is on par with Harvey Keitel's.

Overall Eddie's total body of work on film wins.
12733594, ^^^^^^^ powerful film and Pryor was great in it.

12733577, eddie had many more iconic roles

48 hours, trading places, coming to america, beverly hills cops, nutty professor, life, boomerang, outside all his kid-friendly movies.

Rich had more throwaway roles that bring his career down. But outside of the ones mentioned, i loved Bustin Loose, Stir Crazy, and Silver Streak and his cameos in Car Wash and Bingo and the Traveling Allstars.

Got to give the nod to Eddie.
12733590, I liked Pryor more as an actor but Murphy had the better career

Not sure if it was his advantage in the looks department or better timing or just better roles but from a career perspective, I don't think it's very close.

However I think a lot of Pryor's talent was wasted as a result of not having those same advantages. This is maybe like a Sam Cooke vs Otis Redding type argument. I dunno. Let's face it Pryor was in some weird spots, I had heard (from someone who worked at a high level in Motown films and other studios) that Pryor did so much blow and, as a result, borrowed so much from the studio that he did Car Wash and Bingo of All Stars as a two for one.
12734857, pryor laid the ground work for Eddie
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue Feb-24-15 01:32 PM
and at the time to being a funny Brother you had to have the white side kick and pryor felt most of his films were jive however he wanted to cash in for when he toured and the albums he put out.

when Pryor got more film roles IMO the edge of him was gone much like when DR J went from the ABA to the NBA. while still bad and still One of the Greats, not quite the same as that leaper he was and the same with pryor from the mid 70's to sunset blvd era Pryor.

Eddie didn't have to share from the golden child onward.

Pryor did alot of blow indeed and yeah that is true he made trade offs because he was hitting that "Sugar Wind" like it was no business

Eddie Murphy made a movie where the hero was Black, the main bad guy white, and all the good people in the middle were Asian. He made it funny and made money doing it. I don't think there's another actor who could have pulled that off so well at that time.
12733622, eddie one of the GOAT actors lowkey. Nutty Professor was AMAZING!
Posted by kingjerm78, Mon Feb-23-15 08:51 AM
He breathed life into all those characters.
12734866, Bustin' Loose is so damn underrated to me.

Just wanted to mention it in here.

sidebar: Cicely was great (and gorgeous) in it too.
12735074, someone said Harlem Nights was his best role. FOH

12735271, I'd say Eddie

but I gotta mention Brewster's Millions, used to love that movie, maybe doesn't hold up as well now, idk. If he had taken the part in Blazing Saddles that would have been cool too.

Their worst films probably a tie. The Toy vs Pluto Nash? idk lol Didn't Pryor get top billing in Superman III? That's pretty cool even tho the movie turned out pretty awful, aside from junkyard scene.
12735278, this should be an eddie blowout. c'mon.
