12733425, shout out to all the single parents/still haven't done my taxes Posted by Binlahab, Sun Feb-22-15 07:00 PM
And I can't quite fully claim this status as I am very lucky to have a wonderful person who picks up my slack when required and its a Lotta slack but still
This shit is so so sooo damn hard.
Like I wanna go running out the house, stripping my clothes off, screaming down the street, go live on a beach, smoke weed and write the Great Black novel but
I can't. I'd be literally dooming my children to a life in the system
(I'm serious ive thought abt this like if I just didn't show up to scoop em one day after school how long would it take for the state to come get em?)
& IMO there are few moral absolutes but deadbeat parents are easily in the top 5. Maybe top 3.
So I carry on. And I'm doing a pretty damn good job but man...sometimes I wanna be like yeah dog I CAN meet y'all for that happy hour on Wednesday! Why the fuck not? Make some top ramen kids! Burn the house down! Fuck it!
But I dont...and instead make a post on the internet with waaaay too much personal info in it instead. #therapy
On another note. Still haven't done my taxes. I *think* between my mortgage, child care, biz expenses etc I should get something back but you never know at this stage
Ive made a hard deadline to sit down next Saturday and do em no matter what. Watch the power go out or some shit.

that the 9 to 5ers with kids etc is whats hard

props to my parents who never strayed etc

>>>>>.sometimes I wanna be like yeah dog I CAN meet y'all for that happy hour on Wednesday! Why the fuck not?
The funny thing about that is that even when you get a childless moment you don't act on it (well atleast I didn't last week when my son was gone). I had all these places in my mind to go, all these things to do but then I was like this $25 to go here, this 20 to go there might be needed next week when Greasy Jr comes back home. $25 doesn't sound like a lot until you break it down in relation to what it could be used for--- field trips, snack foods, gas money, school uniform pants replacement.
So in my 8 day child free week, the only thing I did was buy a Richard Pryor biography and $11 worth of dollar roll sushi. In the whole 8 days that my son was gone, I spent $53 total. I think that averages to $7 a day give or take.
|
12733630, $25 is four days worth of food for the 3 of us..... Posted by FLUIDJ, Mon Feb-23-15 09:06 AM
so yeah...I FEEL you.

12733634, man, my lil' boy eats. I'm wondering how i'm gonna afford to feed Posted by Fishgrease, Mon Feb-23-15 09:18 AM
him once he gets to be a teen and really has an appetite.
|
12733642, this is my problem. Posted by tariqhu, Mon Feb-23-15 09:32 AM
my daughter is 10 and eats more than me. my son is 5 and I've noticed big uptick in his food consumption.
I happy the wife starting working cuz cot damn! only down side to her working is that she's working 10 hours days, but at least its down to 5 days rather than 6.
|
12733647, Yeah, she's not a heavy hitter yet at only 2-years old...but Posted by FLUIDJ, Mon Feb-23-15 09:37 AM
i'm hopping we at least cultivate this taste and habit of eating only fresh and cooked foods and not prepackaged snacks and stuff. The few times we've fallen back on that stuff out of convenience our grocery bill really climbed high....that kinda snapped us out of it.
It's a double edged sword though...because while she likes fruit....she likes what i'd consider to be "Fancy" fruits..... blue and blackberries, strawberries, kiwi, etc.... she's kinda "meh" on apples and bananas.....
I'm hopping daycare doesn't start exposing her to a bunch of that stuff though....
|
12733656, this is why I'm broke...Fresh fruit and no prepackaged meals are Posted by Fishgrease, Mon Feb-23-15 09:53 AM
pocket killers.
We don't even eat out much..it's funny when we do because my son has gotten to the point where he thinks the salad/hot/pizza bar at Whole Foods is "eating out".
|
12733660, lol! ... that Whole Foods bar DO add up if you go hungry though lol... Posted by FLUIDJ, Mon Feb-23-15 09:59 AM

12733689, one time we went to Whole Foods because I ain't wanna take him Posted by Fishgrease, Mon Feb-23-15 10:33 AM
to his beloved Red Lobster and the sh*t ended up being damn near $40.
I was like damn we shoulda went to Red Lobster.
Here I was trying to be cheap.
that by the lb. food tray sh*t will add up quick fast and in a hurry.
|
12733698, man i took her and got two slices of pizza and drinks. almost $20!! Posted by labcoat, Mon Feb-23-15 10:51 AM

>>>>>>.sometimes I wanna be like yeah dog I CAN meet y'all for >that happy hour on Wednesday! Why the fuck not?
Coworker invited me to happy hour last week. I asked her how come she didn't tell me days in advance so I could get things worked out. They are all childless tho, so...
|
12733657, Childless folks kill me on that "can't chu just get a sitter".... Posted by Fishgrease, Mon Feb-23-15 09:56 AM
Like I want to freely give someone $40 just so i can go out and spend $20.
Ain't no fun in that.

12733702, Not single but I haven't received a refund in years Posted by Lach, Mon Feb-23-15 10:57 AM
Every year I'm paying GRANDS to the IRS and it's ticking me off. Hopefully this year I get something back because I gave grands to charity.
|
12733711, if I owe in the 4 digits I'm going to lose my mind Posted by Binlahab, Mon Feb-23-15 11:11 AM
Period. Unavoidable. I'll be on the news.
Good luck, sir

12733717, EVERY single thing that was aledgely going to SAVE me $$ Posted by FLUIDJ, Mon Feb-23-15 11:17 AM
in taxes has literally led to me OWING taxes every year for the past 5 years at least.....
-Real Estate -Contributing more to my TSP -Having a child (THIS on is the biggest offender BY FAR. ALL that BS about a child being a tax writeoff or whatever is complete and utter bullshit)....
|
12733771, Right there with you Posted by Lach, Mon Feb-23-15 11:51 AM
It's been looking like I won't get any kind of break till my daughter starts college in 4 years. But then hell, I got a whole new set of financial responsibilities lol. Can't catch a break.

12733904, question for separated/divorced parents: how do u decide to claim ur kids? Posted by PROMO, Mon Feb-23-15 01:20 PM
is it just the parent they live with who claims them?
if that generates a big refund do y'all split it if you support them almost equally outside of where the kids actually reside (and i'm sure they are at the other former spouse's spot a significant amount of time as well)?
i've always wondered how y'all deal with this around tax time.
|
12733907, i'd bet most baby mamas aint sharin' shit. Posted by KiloMcG, Mon Feb-23-15 01:28 PM
`
|
12734049, I'd be inclined to imagine that claiming would go to the custodial Posted by Fishgrease, Mon Feb-23-15 03:17 PM
parent.
|
12734056, you're probably right. my premise wasn't clear enough. Posted by PROMO, Mon Feb-23-15 03:22 PM
i guess i'm talking about parents who are on good enough terms that they essentially split everything including how much time the kid(s) spend at each residence.
now, maybe that's too rare to even be worth considering. lol.
|
12734058, if you don't have an order custodial parent usually does it. Posted by esb225, Mon Feb-23-15 03:23 PM
I made sure we was on that every other year program
